ABANDONED. YA fantasy or fiction, series of maybe 4, each followed a different character, desert setting?

YA, fantasy or fiction (can't remember if magic came into play or not). Read in early 2000s, ~7th grade. Series, possibly 4, each followed a different character, I'm not even sure they were all related (i.e. maybe only related to one of the others in the series). One in particular was about a boy who I remember equating to Aladdin, so similar setting/culture/time period. Wish I had more to go on!

Could it be the Goose Girl books by Shannon Hale? and maybe the one with the boy was River Secrets? Not exact but MG series of 4 and sounds kind of similar

I'm not sure if the OP is still looking, but it could also be Diana Wynne Jones' "Castle in the Air" for the Aladdin-esque character. It loosely ties in to "Howl's Moving Castle" and "House of Many Ways", so it is kind of a series.
