Colleen (colls) | 491 comments Hi Krissy!

Sorry for the delay in checking in, I was out of town. I can start this book soon, probably tomorrow (or Tuesday).

Krissy (krissystewart) | 3693 comments I plan on starting tonight after I'm finished with the book I'm listening to now.

Right!?!? At that point in the book, all I could think of was with that sort of 'love' triangle - I'm already rooting for the one I haven't met yet.

I'm up to the end of chapter 3 and have met the three of them now, the setup is interesting. The author says a lot without saying a lot - if that makes sense. She uses language sparsely yet packs a lot of meaning into things and has created a great sense of place.

Colleen (colls) | 491 comments I took this with me on my trip (visiting family) but didn't take my charger. My nook ran out of power with about 30 pages left. I'll finish once I charge up.

Anyway, I agree with you that Fen is an asshole.

Colleen (colls) | 491 comments The ending startled me because I know that's not what happened to Margaret Mead and since Nell's character was loosely based on her, it was unexpected.

While normally I find love triangles distasteful in novels, this one was very well done and feels like what a love triangle should be (literarily speaking). It's messy and reasonable all at once.

The anthropological portions were a bit dry and dull, but they didn't take up much space and seemed to serve as a way to bring Andrew and Nell together intellectually in a way that excluded Fen - despite Fen being a fellow anthropologist, he seemed a poor one compared with his wife, which didn't set well with his ego.

An interesting read - not sure I'd give it a glowing review, but overall I enjoyed it.
