We have changed our reading in some form, the way that movies and TV influences us. But reading is always about, its just different in comparison to what it was.

And when someone does want to read something for pleasure, they want you to recommend a "guarantee like". They don't want to do the work of finding their own books they might enjoy. And everyone has a different preference as far as genre goes, it's the same with music.
I only recently read Fahrenheit 451 within the last year, it was never required for any of the English courses I took in HS or college. I found it kind of gave me a headache. Picturing all of the screens being on all the time and the fires, just seemed so loud. I don't disagree it wasn't a good book, but I will not be reading it again for The Big Read.

THIS. This is so true, I think! Many people are almost afraid to delve in and read through the sea of literature for their own gems. I think a lot of great books are missed because of this, "Just give me a title I will love, I don't want to find my own." mentality.

Montag comes to learn that "firemen are rarely necessary" because "the public itself stopped reading of its own accord." Bradbury wrote his novel in 1953: To what extent has his prophecy come true today?
