So I finished Leia, Princess of Alderaan (Star Wars) by Claudia Gray and I really liked it! And there were a few things in there that made the new Star Wars movie make more sense. Oh, and I LOVED The Last Jedi, really fun movie!

I'm still in the middle of my reread of The Magician (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #2) by Michael Scott

Also started Did I Mention I Love You? (The DIMILY Trilogy, #1) by Estelle Maskame which is kind of addicting.

And started Nobody's Princess (Nobody's Princess, #1) by Esther M. Friesner I've had this duology for a LONG time, finally decided to read it! I'm trying to read books on my shelves that have been there a long time. This is a Helen of Troy origin story. Really liking it!

As you can see, I'm having trouble sticking to just one book right now! All my books are calling my name! And I just got a huge stack from the library.

I'm halfway through the 4th book Deathmarked (The Fatemarked Epic, #4) by David Estes and I really enjoy the series so far ! I like the short chapters letting us know what's happening everywhere in the kingdoms, I like the characters, I like the universe.
Maybe I could say that some characters are a little bit too "good" or bear a bit much of honor, but it suits the fantasy style, so... and the writing style counterbalance that effect because it's modern even if set in a kind of "medieval like" universe, there is humor even in the worst situations.
Well, in short : I'm enjoying myself a lot !! Hope people enjoy it as much as I do !

Emilie | 35 comments Karen wrote: "I can't wait! I'll be doing my reread of the series by audiobook! "

I've given a try to audiobooks, and I really don't like that. It's not something usual here in France, so I suppose people are not used to them. I enjoy reading by myself, listening to someone else is not something I like. Strange ? I don't know, but once more I haven't grown up doing that kind of stuff so.... Well, there were audiobooks for kids, they were books coming up with a CD track of someone reading the book, you'd turn the pages when hearing a bell ring, but it's mostly for non reading kids.
Is it something usual in the States ?
Anyway, enjoy your audiobooks !

message 3419: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2372 comments I love me some audiobooks Emilie. Sometimes I think if you don't start with the right one you might not become a fan of them. I often tell people to ask others for a recommendation before they start listening to audiobooks so they know they are getting a good one (not all audiobooks are created equally). I am a member of an audiobooks group here on GR and there are a lot of people from around the world as members so I don't think it is a US thing. Having said that, audiobooks are not made for everyone.

Here in Norway audiobooks are common among kids AND adults.
If people drive to work they might listen to an audiobook, if they go for a roadtrip its usual to listen to audiobooks++
I love them.
But yes as Heidi says it depends on the narrator.

I think that's true. I've heard of plenty of people put off by a bad first experience with audiobooks.

Yes! What Heidi said!! As soon as I wake up I turn on my current audiobook and listen as I get ready for work. If I’m driving, taking a walk, doing chores, or winding down to sleep, I’m listening to my book. And with my waterproof speaker, now I can listen while I shower!

In fact, Heidi is who started me on audiobooks several years ago! 😬

You have to start with the right book and the right narrator!

I can’t listen unless I’m doing something. I can’t just sit quietly and listen. My mind starts to wander. That’s something I learned. And I also can’t listen while my brain is in use, like working (on computer all day) or even grocery shopping (because I’m concentrating on what I need to buy or reading ingredients or pricing). It has to be mindless activities. Coloring or playing a mindless video game works well. I may take up knitting as I think that would work well. Sometimes late at night or after a really exhausting work day, my eyes are too tired to focus so I’ll put on an audiobook and mindlessly color.

Catherine Bruno | 771 comments @karen I LOVE to knit! Great stress reliever!! I do it while watching movies because I can knit without looking at the needles and it gives me something to do while I’m watching.

Well you're convincing, so I suppose I'll start again on audiobooks. In fact, you're right about knitting, I just hadn't had the idea !! I like to knit but I haven't been knitting for almost a year because I spend most of my free indoor times reading, and audiobooks might bo the solution... I'll take a look at the audiobooks group Heidi was talking about and see if I can take a good (second) start with it ! Thanks everybody !

I don't knit much while listening to a book or watching a movie at the moment, because Lilie has other ideas, so I generally end up playing tuggy or throwing a ball these days, but I used to knit all the time while listening to a book or watching a movie.

I finished Nobody's Princess (Nobody's Princess, #1) by Esther M. Friesner 3.5 stars--hoping for more action, but still a good take on mythology and a quick read; my reread of The Magician (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #2) by Michael Scott loved it; and Did I Mention I Love You? (The DIMILY Trilogy, #1) by Estelle Maskame 4 stars and a very addicting read.

I started The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle So far I've read "A Study in Scarlet" and I LOVED it! So glad I'm finally reading these stories, I've wanted to for so long!

Also going to be starting The Little French Bistro by Nina George and The Fire Wish (The Jinni Wars, #1) by Amber Lough

I adored The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George, so I'm very excited to read her newest book!!

I just finished The Knowing (The Forgetting, #2) by Sharon Cameron and it was sooooo good!!

I've been listening to Iron Gold (Red Rising, #4) by Pierce Brown on audio but think I'm going to go back to the beginning and start over in print. I like to do rereads by audio, but feel like I miss too much by audio as my mind gets distracted by other things if I'm driving or doing chores. I tend to have to constantly rewind on a brand new read. I want to catch every word the first time through!

I also finished The Knowing (The Forgetting, #2) by Sharon Cameron and I agree with Karen! 5 star read!

Also finished The Fire Wish (The Jinni Wars, #1) by Amber Lough which was a fun, quick read.

Started The Clouded Sky (Earth & Sky, #2) by Megan Crewe which I seem to be way more into than the first one. Probably because this one takes place on an alien planet, and I'm so into that right now!

Also started Before She Ignites (Fallen Isles Trilogy #1) by Jodi Meadows and I'm really liking this one so far. So very dark, great world building. The MC is majorly flawed, so I'm not too much of a fan of hers yet. But loving everything else!

I haven't been reading too much these past few days, although I did listen to my audio book for almost 2 hours while in the dentist chair yesterday. Ugh, I am deathly fearful of dentists so was shaking all over with tears streaming. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been without an audiobook. 😱

Right now I'm reading/listening to both Iron Gold (Red Rising, #4) by Pierce Brown and Apocalypse Z The Beginning of the End (Apocalypse Z, #1) by Manel Loureiro .
