What Are You Reading Right Now Part 2
Oh, Karen, the flu? That is terrible. I hope you are feeling better now. It sounds like you were really sick.

I cancelled my Kindle Unlimited for a couple months since I won't be reading anything else for a couple months at least, LOL. I've had KU forever. I will get it back. These ASOIAF are getting longer with each book!
Nancy, yes. And still sick actually. My eyes are all out of focus so having a hard time reading. This flu just keeps hanging on although I’m much better. :(

Back in September CVS was already offering flu shots. They said the county health dept already had reports of people getting the flu.
I was inspired to start The Water Knife because you were reading it and I already put it on a TBR List challenge. I almost swapped it for something else but decided I needed to read it. I am enjoying it so far. He has a really good short story that is also water related that is really good. I’ll habe to go find it and post the title.
We got our flu shots early this year at work, thank goodness! It was a really terrible flu shot this year. Normally, I have no side effects at all from it, maybe just a little sore muscle. This year my arm was hurting so bad I had to take some major pain killers, and then I burned with a high fever for 12 hours. It was crazy! Luckily, short lived. And worth it to avoid this flu that's going around right now!

Typically my doctor always gives me a flu shot every year, but I just hadn't been in yet. Wish I would have. I work from home so don't intermingle with the public too much. But, the week I got this happened to be a week i had three nights of meetings and more than normal people at each meeting. Someone gave me this! :(
I keep thinking about forcing myself to run to the bookstore, just getting out of the house, but probably shouldn't drive right now. Or take my germs into the public. Boo!! (And in reality, I'm still couch ridden. Ha!)
My family drops off care packages at my front door of food. They ring the bell and run. Lol!

Nope. I have only read the short story and now The Water Knife. I need to come to your book festival!
Karen it is called The Tamarisk Hunter. I read it in one of John Jospeh Adams anthologies. I think it was Wastelands II: More Stories of the Apocalypse. Oh I have read another of his short stories, The People of Sand and Slag.
Paolo Bacigalupi is such a smart, interesting guy! We loved his panel :) It was a fun one! I really liked the Windup Girl, although it took awhile for me to understand it. Its one of those books that starts with following multiple characters that don't seem to have much to do with each other, but their actions set of a chain of events that eventually links them and then things go crazy!
I've also read Ship Breaker which I just couldn't get that into. It was just an okay read for me.

So, I've finished
final rating is 4 stars. I really enjoyed the last third of the story, and LOVED the ending. The ending completely saved the read for me.
I also finished
5 stars.
This book really surprised me in how much I loved it! Just wasn't expecting it at all. It started out kind of slower paced, but it still hooked me right away. This book is just so interesting...at first it seems like your typical paranormal romance, but it just has so much more going for it. All the science, history, conspiracy theories, libraries, antiques and rare books, wine, travel, food...let me just say that the book made me hungry all the time while reading, and I seriously wanted to go visit a winery, preferably in Europe.
I think this a cross between Twilight and The Da Vinci Code. But much more well written than both.
This is a book for intellectuals, historians, foodies, and wine enthusiasts. Oh, and booklovers. I'm not kidding. You'll love it so much more if you are any of these things.

I actually went to a panel with Deborah Harkness on it (with Jonathan Maberry and Gail Corriger) at my second Tucson book festival. Another fascinating author! Her line was soooooo long though so I ended up not getting her books. I knew I should've!

I read that years ago dident love it. (yes I know my goodreads does not have it marked as read I do that with books I read in the past that dident become faves). They are making a tv series of it that looks interesting-Talking about discovery of witches here not the somani book.

Discovery of Witches was too mushy for me. I think fans of Outlander and Twilight would like it though.
Jenny wrote: "We got our flu shots early this year at work, thank goodness! It was a really terrible flu shot this year. Normally, I have no side effects at all from it, maybe just a little sore muscle. This yea..."I discovered several years back that I get sicker when I have the flu shot than when I don't have it, so I don't bother to have it any more. A nurse once told me it's possible my reaction is because other health issues I have mean I'm never completely well, and you're officially not meant to have it if you're already sick. The idea of the flu shot is for your body to get a dose of the flu bug when it's well enough to fight it, so it learns to fight it while at full strength and strong enough to do so, and is then ready to fight the germs quickly if you get the flu normally afterwards, which is the reason they usually tell you to reschedule if you're sick when you're supposed to get the shot. If you're already sick, your body can't fight it, and you just get extra germs for the body to try and fight off while already not at full strength.

Yeah, I've had to reschedule my flu shot before because I was already sick. This year, though, I was not, so I don't know why I reacted like I did.

Mine was the quadrivalent. I wonder if that additional flu variant was the reason why I had horrible muscle aches and fever?

Yes, you do need to come!! It's a great bunch of authors again!! http://tucsonfestivalofbooks.org/?id=45
Once you've been spoiled by our festival, you'll never want to go to a BookCon again. Seriously no lines, or short lines, and you can see the author several times!! No bracelets or being limited to which authors you can see. Just ask Jenny and Jen. Both are coming back!! So much fun!!

I might be able to go that weekend. Do you go both days? March will be here before you know it! I need to plan now.
Yes, we get there Friday afternoon/evening and leave Sunday after it closes. I just booked 2 rooms at the Aloft Tucson University across the street. We’ll be able to drop books off at the room. We typically take rolling milk crates for all the books each day! Each of us has one and they’re FULL!! You can buy books there or bring them from home. Nothing that requires you to buy books there. But we normally do buy some books to support the festival. It’s free to get in! Sometimes they limit to 3 books per signing, but there are usually multiple times to go see the author so we will split the books between days. I had a zillion books for James Dashner last year. One day is not enough. You need both full days! Too many authors and not enough time! I have my granddaughter and her friends to help me get books signed. Plus they will hangout and let us go To the events and save us places at the signings. Teens are great that way!!
Nancy, yes they just announced the authors! http://tucsonfestivalofbooks.org/?id=45
And YES I got a signed copy of Artemis! And Ready Player One! They still had copies at my B&N!! Woot woot!! 👍🏻

There aren’t any rooms left using the Books Festival link with a check-in on 3/9 and check-out on 3/12. But there is with a check-out on the 11th.
Maybe it’s regular rate for 3/12? I called them and we have 2 adjoining rooms. Try calling and seeing if you can get a room next to ours!

I called and that day departure is sold out. The block is from the 6th to the 13th.I booked a room with the 11th check-out before they sell out. I need to call back to request a room close to yours. It’s not a guarantee though.
Flights suck for me. They are all in the morning. Nothing late in the day to try and stay for part of the day Sunday before catching flight home.

Hmmmm.... I have a full vehicle back to Phoenix. Id say come with us and stay the night and leave from Phx. I have a full house but i do have a blow up mattress that's open. Let me think about how to get an extra car to use.

Hmmmm... bus is about $30 round trip. Fly into Phoenix Thursday night or Friday day, if I can't get an extra car.
If I can get to PHX on the 11th there is an 11:42pm flight back. So if I can get there by 8:30 pm, that’s one option.Otherwise, don’t worry too much about it. There is time to figure it out.

It's on the way home!! Not inconvenient at all. We typically leave Tucson between 5 and 6 and it's about a 2 hour drive, 2 1/2 to stop and eat. So the timing is perfect. .

Ha!! You will find yourself stocking up on all kinds of books now!! Jen and Jenny will both start shipping books to my house in January because of airline weight. You're welcome to do the same.
And you'll love both Jonathan Maberry and Paulo!!
I've met Jonathan at least 7 times now. He's freaking hysterical!! I'm sure he'll remember Jenny after this:

Jenny had a used copy of Rot and Ruin shipped directly to my house so no one opened it up until Jonathan went to sign it. This is the photo the author next to him took and posted on Jonathan's Facebook page. Lol!! We all laughed and laughed and laughed!!

I liked it.
