Elora Mitchell | 449 comments @Donna. Yay! Give it a few chapters. The first couple should be read more as a prologue than anything else. If you aren't hooked by the end of the courtyard showdown, then feel free to let it go....

Donna (donanicole) | 897 comments Thanks, Elora, unfortunately I have little patience with slow starting books. There are so many to read and so little time, right? But I will give it a serious try.

Me too! I've become so impatient with books the older I get. But I will tell you that this was my FAVORITE read of 2015 and the sequel was just as good. I've reread them a couple times and my love for them only grows.
I do so hope you enjoy it!!!

I agree. I hope you stick with it because it gets better IMO. It was my only 5 star read last year.

The Rithmatist is SO GOOD!!!!! Can't wait for book 2 :) Sanderson is THE BEST. Hope you like it as much as I did.

Still working on Sins of Empire (Gods of Blood and Powder, #1) by Brian McClellan . Love the complexity of characters, wish I had more time to just read...

Glad you liked it! Sanderson has SO MANY projects going on right now, I don't know how he keeps them all straight. I am waiting for Book 3 in his Stormlight Archives (best epic fantasy series!) too, but each book in that series is 1,000+ pages and he's planning 10 for the entire series! I'll be an old man before I get them all LOL

Heidi (Yup. Still here.) wrote: "Jenny the last part of the Husband's Secret lost me. I loved the entire first half though."

I really liked how the author played with the theme of "Truth." And how we think we now what's true and what's not, and how that affects our daily lives and decisions. While I wasn't exactly thrilled with what happened (who would be??) I thought it was an interesting take on things. Did John-Paul deserve what happened, or was it just the way fate played out? This book reminded me a lot of the movie "Premonition" with Sandra Bullock. Its not a happy ending by far, but its an interesting look at things, and makes you think and question your reality a bit. I love books and movies like that.

This book would make for a great book club discussion, I can see why its picked for book clubs a lot!

I finished Maud by Melanie J. Fishbane and it was a pretty good read, 4 stars. It moved a bit slow sometimes, and didn't have that "classics" vibe--I was expecting something a little more like LM Montgomery's own books--but I loved learning more about her life.

Now I'm reading Falling Kingdoms (Falling Kingdoms, #1) by Morgan Rhodes and I LOVE this so far!

It's brilliant so far, only 30% in. Maybe not quite as captivating as Salt to the Sea, but a powerful story nonetheless.

I can't think of one to compare it exactly to. I just finished it, and rated it 4.5 stars. It was a darker fantasy, and it follows 4 MCs from different lands and walks of life during basically an uprising and war between 3 countries in this land. I loved the characters and the basic plot. It moved really fast, which was good. There wasn't quite as much world building as I like, but there was enough to imagine the world and get sucked in. A decent amount of action. There was a lot of politics and I'd compare it a bit to a chess match at times with the Kings and royalty. There's a huge epic battle at the end, otherwise its little spurts of action scenes here and there. There's also some magic involved, but most magic in the world has died out. I do think you'd like this one!

Hope this helps you!

It reminded me of Fatemarked a LITTLE bit, mostly in the multiple POVs, and its darker. People die. But it feels a bit more YA (youngish) and your world building is much better, as are your characters. Still an enjoyable read, though, and a nice quick one, which is nice :)
