Oo... I'm so gonna try to get into this. I don't have personal copies of Grip and Flip but I'm sure it won't be hard to swing them. ;)Edit: Jenny your shelves are amazing. Major book nerd envy
@storm. I'm not sure if they still are on there, but I read grip and flip through the kindle prime program....one free book borrow each month :)

I just finished
It was ok for me but not overwhelming. I think it was a little too young. Do the rest of the books get better as we go?

Thanks Elora. Good to know. I'll probably continue then. :)

@ Karen. I personally loved the series. There are few books that I've read that can pull off humor like Riordan can!

Yes, and the more you learn about "the prophecy", the better it gets. I really liked the 4th book in this series.
The next series that starts with The Lost Hero feels older than the first series as well I thought. But what I really loved was the action and mythology in all of these books.
But then again, I love children's books. They contain so much wisdom, if you look for it. One of my favorite quotes ever:
"You have to write the book that wants to be written. And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you write it for children." --Madeleine l'Engle

Elora wrote: "@karen. I thought they did.....not as aged as the Harry Potter books, but the books grew darker :)"Agreed.
I finished The Complete H.P. Lovecraft Collection. Then I read The Light Beyond the Storm Chronicles, The Shining Citadel, The Stolen Tower, and Tales of Erana: The Warrior's Curse. Now I'm reading Tales of Erana: Myths and Legends.
Reading
the first of a three part (so far) series. It is good. Seems my reading has slowed down. So much to do, but when I am inside during 100 plus degree days I can read and watch Netflix. Or Amazon.

I felt the same way about the first book so I did not continue. If you continue with the series please let me know if you like it more :)
I finished
! Loved it! Thoughts on the last stories I read:
"Love is the Last Resort" by Jon Skovron--5 stars, adored this story!
"Good Luck and Farewell" by Brandy Colbert--3 stars, just an okay one for me.
"Brand New Attraction" by Cassandra Clare---4 stars, definitely an interesting one!
"A Thousand Ways This Could All Go Wrong" by Jennifer E Smith--5 stars, loved this story! Sometimes simple is best.
"The Map of Tiny Perfect Things" by Lev Grossman-- 4 stars, its sort of like Groundhog's Day but way better!

I started a reread too! (although I actually sort of have been rereading it for the last few weeks to prepare for the reading marathon LOL!) I can't get enough of this story, though!
Still reading

last night. Didn't love it. Didn't hate it either, but... I dunno. There were certain things about the book I liked. Kat and Po weren't on the list haha. In the end, it wasn't awful, but finishing it felt more like a chore than a hobby.Next I'll probably try
but I'm not fully committed yet, so I may pull a switcheroo at the last minute.
Just started The Young Elites. Was going to read A Madness So Discreet, but wasn't feeling it at the moment. And Salt to the Sea was a little too close to The Book Thief as far as theme, so I thought I'd change it up.

I read Alight, David. It was decent. It felt like a completely different story from Alive. The birthday children are still discovering who they are but the book takes a completely new turn.

I felt the same about Graceling, Tommy. I didn't continue with the series... yet anyway.

I finished The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly yesterday and liked it, then I started Snow Like Ashes but I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.
dnf-ed the 100.
Picking up a Norwegian crime next.

Plus I think Oda said it was the best in the series, so I'll trust it's a better book. I'll probably check it out, but not right away.

Aww. Yes the Three graceling books have different feels and feel uniqe, so you might like one even if you dont enjoy them all. But they arent closely related(they take Place years apart). No hurry.

@Tommy I liked Graceling, but not enough to read the whole series so I understand where you're coming from. I felt like there was something missing when I was reading it, can't quite put my finger on it though.

Fire was my favorite, but I LOVED them all. I'm not kidding. Total love for this series! I got really into it, the world and the characters. The pages flew by for me! Most people I've talked to who love this series actually like Graceling best. Go figure!

Couldn't sleep last night, so I finished Tales of Erana: Myths and Legends. Then I read Shattered Mirror: A Poetry Collection, The Dragon and George, and The Bigfoot Paradox.I haven't decided what I'll read next yet.

I really think the audiobook for Graceling is what made me love it more. I know a lot of people who loved Fire more than Graceling - I think it is a matter if you connect with Katsa or Fire. Fire is more emotional and not as kick as as Katsa. I personally prefer Katsa/Graceling but I know a ton of people who preferred Fire.
