They seem to be an alternative music station (just looked them up). Do they regularly play stories? Was that the first time you had ever heard a story read on the station? Do you remember when last year (month would be helpful, also week) you heard it? They have an active Facebook page so it would be possible to go back to that time period and see what commenters were saying.

Would this have been a published story?

Thanks for the idea, I have gone through the Facebook page, but cannot see any reference to any short stories.
I cannot be certain, as I didn’t here the intro to the story, but I would be reasonably certain it was a published story.
Regarding the broadcast date, I can only guess it was circa autumn (is that a bit rubbish that I can't even remember an approximate date!)

It's in his book Myths of the Near Future

Listened to part of a short story on BBC radio 6 last year.
The gist of it was a husband and wife went on holiday to Spain (or somewhere in the Med). And for some reason their return flight was cancelled. They continued to stay in the hotel (I think at no extra cost) expecting to have a flight home soon. However, this flight didn’t come (I think the reason / excuse was du to pilot strikes).
Unfortunately I didn’t get to listen to the end!
The story had a feel that it may have been written around the 70s / 80's.
It was narrated by a woman.
