Alison (a1ison74) | 95 comments I'm hoping this is ok to post but I'm not sure who else to ask and I know there are a few WordPress users here. I have a blog on the free WordPress site and all was going well till a couple of days ago when I tried to put up one of my weekly posts and it went a bit odd.

When I went into the write post screen the layout was a little bit odd, the little icons at the top for sticky posts, trash etc were giant. It was a bit awkward but still managed to post. Today however when I go on via my laptop I can't see my site or it seems anyone else's. It keeps telling me there's a connection problem but all non WordPress sites are fine. I can get on to my site via my kindle tablet and phone so it hasn't vanished (thank goodness) but can't figure out what's wrong.

Is it WordPress or my laptop? Anyone else have a similar issue? If so how did you fix it?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Have you tried using a different browser on your laptop?

Post the link to your blog here, so we can make sure you're using the correct address.

Alison (a1ison74) | 95 comments I think I'm using explorer (I'm so IT illiterate it's scary) so that could be the problem. I have Chrome at work and it seemed to be working ok the other day. I'm off to try downloading it onto my laptop. This could take some time :)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments That loads fine for me.

Click on that link yourself from your laptop.

It's possible that some malware has attached itself to Internet Explorer, so Chrome would be a better bet.

Alison (a1ison74) | 95 comments Thanks. Good to know it's just my laptop.

Still not working. Downloaded Chrome, put in the link and now I'm getting a message that my Internet access is blocked. Think it might be my anti virus but not sure I want to muck about with that

Alison (a1ison74) | 95 comments Yep. It was the firewall. Turned it off and on and now everything is working. Why is it everything IT related seems to be fixed by turning off and on?

I find it works with software engineers as well ;-)
