SOLVED. Bat-faced alien named Shakespeare [s]

I read a book when I was 10 or so, and it was interesting, so I thought I would try to find it as an adult. Problem is, only thing I can remember about it, is it was a science fiction book about a bat faced alien named Shakespeare, and his contemplations at the end of the universe.

What year were you 10 or so? Was it for adults, YA, or children? Remember the cover?

The cover was mostly green, with a forest type setting, and a picture of the alien. It was about 20 years ago, and it was meant for adults.
