Bergamont | 3 comments I read this book a few years ago, but I think it was an older regency.

The h's father is a diplomat, therefore she lived with her uncle. There was a Christmas Ball (I think) and she watched the dancing. Her cousin is beautiful and the H was in love with her, but as he was the younger son the cousin rejected him and married someone else. The H was a soldier. The h fell in love with the H.

A few years later her father is still abroad and she runs her own estate. The H is now a marquess (I think) because his older brother and father died. He visits her and they argue about a piece of land.

The cousin is now a widow with 2 children (boys I think) and asks the h to visit her in London for the season as a companion.
The cousin is now after the H. The h's other cousin is horsemad and he and the h take care of the children (riding, visiting Astley's, tricks on horseback). The H's younger sister is in London too and she has a disability (I think its her legs?).

I hope someone can help because I tried everything else I could think of.
Thanks!!

Bergamont, what year did you read this book? "A few years ago" can mean different things to different people.

Can you tell us more about the heroine - other suitors, family/siblings, personality, appearance, hobbies, etc.?

Bergamont | 3 comments hmm... I can't remember when I read the book I think it was 2013 or 2014 but I really think it was an older book... so it was not published recently

I think the h was a bluestocking, she was very independent and run the estate on her own (I think her father gave it to her because he was not interested). I can't remember if she had any other suitors or her hobbies. I just remember that she played with her cousin's children and taught them riding. The other clear memory is the H's sister she was disabled, it had something to do with her legs. I think the h met her for the first time while the sister and her mother where out driving in the park.
The H pledged his love to the cousin while he was the second son. She rejected him. I think her family would have accepted him because he was a good man. The h listened to the conversation.
Regarding the h's family, well as far as I remember was her mother dead and her father abroad, so he didn't play any part. She didn't have any brothers or sisters. But she had two cousins (brother and sister) I think her uncle was an earl.
I'm not sure but she could have been living with an old teacher as a chaperone and her butler/stewart used to work for her father... but about that I'm really not sure at all...

No idea what this is Bergamont--but once it's found it'll be joining my shelf of Regencies.
