"It's okay." Sara replied. "I'm used to that happening. I may not be smart, but I do know most things to do with my animal. But that's fine." She was so happy that she was finally smarter than someone about her own animal, as what she just said was often untrue.

She only barely heard what Sara was saying.
"What did Papa alwaus tell me? 'Leah, don't assume things unless you know all the details. Assumptions aren't always correct.' I'm sorry I didn't listen Papa! Why couldn't I-"
She realized that she was mumbling to herself and Sara was looking at her funny.
"Sorry about that. I tend to talk to myself when I do something wrong."

"Sorry about that. I tend to talk to myself when I do something wrong."
"I know some people like that. They're mostly called insane, though." Sara replied. She didn't mention that she liked to talk to herself either, as she didn't want to be a hypocrite. She knew that Leah was only trying to teach her something, but somehow it made her feel less dubious, even though she should've learned by now that people weren't to be trusted, even if they were Cursed like her.
Leah laughed. Insane might be a truer description of her than Sara knew.
"Hey Sara, if you could do anything, what would you do? If you weren't locked in here and the fact that you're part animal didn't automatically make you hated?"
"Hey Sara, if you could do anything, what would you do? If you weren't locked in here and the fact that you're part animal didn't automatically make you hated?"
"I'd probably be a criminal anyway," Sara replied. "What about you?" She asked. She wanted to know about it, even if she turned out not to be a threat.
A criminal? Leah had learnt enough to know that nobody became a criminal because they wanted to, but she wasn't yet close enough with Sara to argue with her.
"Me? I'm not sure. I'd probably be a traveling merchant like my father, I guess. Or maybe I'd be a writer. Or, maybe....I don't really know. There's so much to xhose from."
"Me? I'm not sure. I'd probably be a traveling merchant like my father, I guess. Or maybe I'd be a writer. Or, maybe....I don't really know. There's so much to xhose from."
"I would like to choose, but I've done so many things that I should've taken responsibility for, even if I wouldn't admit that to most people." Sara replied. Sara? She never really thought of it was she having any type of choice in her life. She wanted to say something else, but waited for Leah to continue the conversation.
"Papa always told me that we all have free will. We may not be able to chose what happens to us, but we can choose how we respond to it."
Leah hadn't chosen to be born Cursed. She hadn't chosen to be captured and brought here. But it had been her choice to live and thrive here. It'd been her choice to make friends she wouldn't give up for the world, and she wouldn't change it. She'd made the decision to talk to this lonely girl, and she didn’t regret it.

Sara nodded. She didn't really agree, but wanted to show Leah that she was listening to what she was saying, even if it was sending a false message to Leah. She liked being Cursed, it made normal people pay more attention to her physical errors than what she had done over the years.
"But this is who I am, and I like it that way. Who cares if the rest of the world hates it? You know what I mean? I was born with hearing better than most people's, for one. Ehy shouldn't I be proud of my gifts?"
Sara nodded once again. She didn't have anything to contribute to the conversation and just decided to nod along. She was glad of her poisoning gift too. One day, just one day, if she ever got out, she would kiss that boy and hope he died.
"But I can't control what other people do. You can only control yourself. But why should I bringmyself down to their level? Just because they hate me doesn't mean that I'm going to give them the satisfaction of hating them back. I just don't care about them. If I don't care, then nothing they do can affect me. I know I'm not a monster."
Sara nodded, smiling. She agreed with this point. She was bored, but besides this, she had nothing else to do, so she shifted her weight from one foot to another.
"I'm sorry, I'm ranting again, aren't I?"
She did that sometimes, without realizing it. It always made her feel so awkward. She couldn’t believe she'd done it in front of a stranger, this time.

"No. Not really." Sara replied. She was thinking about what they might eat that night and what she was going to wear tomorrow. Those weren't very important things, but they were the only things she hadn't thought about.
"Nothing much." Sara responded. She didn't want to make it obvious that she wasn't really listening that much.
"Well, I don't know it. It's either to die again, and have people be happier, or..." Sara's mind drifted off.
Again?
"No, I don't mean in a sense of 'why were you born?' I mean, you woke up this morning. You decided to get up inside of moping in bed, and you decided to live, instead of crawling into a corner and dying. Why?"
"No, I don't mean in a sense of 'why were you born?' I mean, you woke up this morning. You decided to get up inside of moping in bed, and you decided to live, instead of crawling into a corner and dying. Why?"
"So I could get back at the people who mess with me instead of letting them get away with what they do."
"Get back at them?"
She seemed so sure of herself.
"So you're just staying alive out of spite? Say you do get back of them, will that be it? Will you just lay down and die?"
She seemed so sure of herself.
"So you're just staying alive out of spite? Say you do get back of them, will that be it? Will you just lay down and die?"
"Maybe." Sara responded, smiling coldly."Besides, it's not like I nedd a moral guardian, if that is what you're asking me." She pointed out.
"Huh? I don't know what you mean."
Leah wasn't faking innocence. She really didn't understand what Sara was talking about. Moral guardian? What did tuat even mean?
"She thinks you're preaching at her- that you're trying to do you your 'goody two-shoes' duty by turning her into a happy, honest and good-hearted person, instead of the cruel and spiteful person she'd much rather be," came a voice from the side.
Leah looked over, and there was Felix, sitting on a chair with his nose in a book. She hadn't even noticed him come in, but he'd probably only neen there a few minutes- long enough to hear the tail end of their conversation.
"By the way, she isn't," he said to Sara, still looking at his book. "She's honestly just curious and wants to get to know you better. Leah is interested in people's motivations- what is it that makes them tick?"
That was so like Felix. Open his mouth to spout words of wisdom, then go back to ignoring the world around him. Or at least, he acted like he was ignoring everything, but his sharp ears heard everything.
"Sara, this is Felix, the one I told you about- he's a cat. Felix," she said to to the boy, who, for all intents and purposes, didn't appear to be listening, "This is Sara."

"Nice to meet you, Felix." Sara said coldly. "Also, I'm pretty sure that cruel and spiteful is just how I appear to be. Really, I'm just abrasive." She pointed out to Felix. She didn't like that he'd been eavesdropping on their conversation, and she didn't like even more that his hearing made it impossible for him not to.
"Besides, it's not like you care about how I act and who I am." Sara responded quickly.
(I feel like I need a Felux in my life. Someone who can understand what makes people tick and clear up misunderstandings.)
Felix ignored her. Leah wasn't surprised. Felix, more then anyone, understood the power of letting people vent. Felix cared about everyone, and if it had been her, she would have been quick to correct Sara, but Leah realized that Felix knew that Sara was just being prickly to defend herself, and wasn't really talking to him, but to herself, as most people do.
That boy jas more patience in his little finger then I'll have my entire life.
So she didn't say anything- she just let Sara rant.

"Everyone here tries to act so nice to everyone else, even though we all know the truth, we're just a bunch of stupid abominations." Sara finished, breaking down into a sob and sitting on the floor.
"Abominations?!" Leah exclaimed.
"Who told you that? Who made you believe such a disgusting lie?"
Leah prided herself on her extremely calm and serene nature- she could count on one hand the number of times she'd raised her voice. But right now she was angry. Not at Sara, but at whoever had made this beautiful girl believe, not only that she was something evil or Cursed, but something antithetical to life itself- something who's very existence was not just an ill omen, but the root cause of bad things, and something that should be completely decimated.
"You are not an abomination. Cursed, perhaps, but you belong to this life as much as anyone else." She was starting to regain her composure, but she was still seething.

Sara had broken down. She wasn't sure how or why, but she was no longer insulting Felix for the fun of it. She didn't want to show her face to Leah, afraid that Leah would be very angry with what she had just said. The person who had told Sara was a boy that was her age about ten years ago who briefly mentioned it before telling her that the Snatchers didn't care about her and had forgotten about her.
Leah reached out and wrapped her arms around Sara, pulling her into a tight hug. She ought to know better- Sara didn't seem like the hugging type. But her fierce maternal instincts wouldn't let her let go.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry you had to go through that, that anyone could even think of calling you that. I'm sorry for all the other things you must have gone through before coming here. I'm sorry I'm such a nosy, interfering busybody." She laughed a little, but the tears streaming down her face belied any humor here.
"Never again. Sara, you have to know that the minute you came through those gates, you became a part of our family- and we take care of our own."
She could practically hear Felix rolling his eyes. No matter how understanding he was, he neither appreciated nor cared for overly emotional scenes. After all, he was still a boy.

Sara looked up at Leah, a little smile on her face. The tears that were still in her eyes were wiped up. She didn't go as far as to hug Leah back, but she was happy that Leah wasn't a threat and that she really cared about her. "You're not that interfering. She said softly, voice cracking a little.
(Alright, Leah's leaving. Felix is still here, and if you want to continue with Leah as well, just say the word.)
