Donnajo | 4353 comments I thought I would start a conversation with the article from one of my newsletter. Love some of these quotes for Print books.
But what is your Favorite?
Are you a person like me that reads print and e-books?
Do you have a book or more than 1 book going on each?
If you like E-books where do you read them (nook, kindle, iPad (or iPad mini), kobo, whatever?
If you like Print (old tree) paper books which is your favorite of
choice (hardcover, trade,, or paperback)?
I better not forget (okay had to come back to add it) What about audios they need to be included too?
Also we can't forget the important question with print books. What type of bookmark do you use? Is it whatever piece of paper you find, is it one you got at the library, a store bought or a homemade one?
The the last question for either would be would most of your print books or E-books be Library books, store bought, etc?
Also just because I felt like asking how many of us likes to see what other people around us are reading if we are out someplace.

Have fun answering the question I know a lot of us know each other and our ways but with there being so many new friends in the group I thought it would be a good time to answer this important question.

I almost forgot to put the link in for the article.

Donnajo | 4353 comments I guess I should start.
I'm a reader of both Print and E-books.
I read on 2 nooks (okay have 4 total but only use my tablet which is the second nook I bought and my Glow light which was the last one I bought) and my iPad mini.
Yes, at times I find I read more on the E-Readers than print. I've been known lately to get the library book out on certain ones thinking It would get me to read the book faster (it hasn't happened)
I do still get from library ones I don't get on the E-readers.
My book reading system seems crazy at the moment and I really need a better system for my reading times.
I have a few books in both categories going it seems at the same time I never know what I feel like reading. As long as they aren't all the same gene.
I seem to like trade or pb over hardcover but will read hardcover if I have too. Don't like taking hardcover out of the house or to the shore because it's a pain to take to the beach.
I "Hate" the due dates on library books.
As some of you know I"m a collection of Bookmarks. I've been involved in bookmark swaps, I'm always looking to see if I can find something new, I have a good size collect. So that means I'm always switching bookmarks that I use in what I"m reading. I might have my favorites but I still do the switch.
I don't do audios I find I'm not in the car enough and when I walk I like music to motivate me.

Lorraine Southern I read my Kobo, haven't read print in a long time now purely because I HAD to stop buying print due to no more wall space left. Even after I got rid of the 'rubbish' and whittled my collection down to the savers ;) I own 100s and I see my print as an investment and have no desire to ever get shot of any of it! As to what I'm reading, I have an eclectic taste in genres and will read anything as long as it entertains me. If I'm not grabbed by a book within the first few pages then I know I'm in for a long slog :( I try not to 'bin' a book unless I'm still 'drifting' 50 pages in! And, I am ALWAYS monogamous - HAS to be one at a time ;)

Donnajo | 4353 comments I can't remember when the last time I had only one book going. I think I would go crazy if I only had 1 book going. Yet if I'm really into a book then I just stick with it until I'm finished and don't do the jumping between books.

Shomeret | 1490 comments I became a two book at a time person once I got my e-reader. The e-reader is for my mass transit commute and other trips. I read print (primarily library books)at home.

I have two Kindles. The Kindle keyboard is losing its memory. I use it to find out what books I want to add to my priority list because the new model doesn't allow you to access your entire collection. You can search for an item on the Kindle Voyage, but you can't browse titles. Eventually, I won't be able to use the Kindle Keyboard for this purpose because it will lose its memory completely. Then I suppose I'll have to browse my collection on my account on Amazon where it isn't prioritized as it is on the Kindle Keyboard. I spent a great deal of time and effort on prioritizing my books on that model. The lack of the ability to browse is only one of my pet peeves with the Kindle Voyage. So I now keep a top twelve priority list in a Word file, but I have about three hundred prioritized books on the Keyboard Kindle. I add another book to my top twelve every time I finish one.

I use index cards as bookmarks. I jot quotes from the book on them which I sometimes use in my review.

Danielle (bookchara) I am definitely a one book at a time kind of girl. I dont like to divide my attention between books. I'd rather fully immerse mself in just one book. I alternate between my kindle paperwhite and print books. When it comes to hardback vs paperback, i do not prefer one over the other. But my fiance' insists hardbacks are superior. I get most of my print books from an online book swapping club. And my bookmarks usually consist of a receipt from the store of a post-it note :-D

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Good questions! Thanks DJ!
I usually am actively reading a minimum of two to three books, one audio, one ebook and one print is the norm. About 80% of my reading is on audio, the remaining is mostly digital; both mostly accessed on my iPhone or my Fire HD tablet. I use the apps for audible.com, hoopla, Overdrive, iBooks and Kindle, mostly Kindle for print and a mix of the others.

I have two Kindle ereaders, one Kindle keyboard generation 2 and a Kindle paperwhite. I rarely use the keyboard Kindle for reading anymore it is heavy and the buttons seem a bit clunky when you are used to a touch screen, the paperwhite is great when I am focused on reading in chunks of time and when pressing to finish a book. I like the xray feature.

I borrow most of my books from the library, utilize Amazon Prime for plenty of Kindle books to leverage whispersync deals and am a 24 credit a year audible.com user.
Non digital print reading on paper is harder to manage due to time and proximity limits and preference for a backlit screen.
I probaly average a bit higher than three hours of audio listening a day, print less than 30 minutes a day.
Bookmarks are usually the magazine inserts that fall out or slick postcards that come in the mail; I do lean towards colorful pretty ads for local events or library freebies including the hold slips.

Jezzy | 36 comments - the printed books. always have since grade school & always will be!
- those e-books & audios with different designs or features, brand names & what-not, i never really cared about them & i'm clueless on how to use them anyway.
- i can only read 1 book @ a time. it would be confusing if i jump from 1 story & different genre to another.
- i always borrow them from the library & if available, i usually choose the hardcovers. when i get to own them, i pick paperbacks.
- the more bookmarks i find in the library & how diverse they look like, the better to hoard them!

Sherry | 4516 comments -one book at a time- but i can read 2-3 at a time if the other 1-2 are books i am reading with my students at school. :)
-i read "real" books but also love, love ,love my kindle, especially for BFB's.
-i use the library a lot, but still buy some of my favorite authors' books, too.
-and a big fat no to audio books for me. i get too distracted when i listen to them.
- i have a bunch of magnetic bookmarks that i use. love them because they don't ever fall out of the book.

Donnajo | 4353 comments Sherry, that is how I feel with audios. The only time I would maybe listen to them is in the car. The only large amount of time in the car is shore trips and in the past I did try audios like David Sardaris it was okay but I would only listen part of the trip maybe 1 or 2 stories then back to music. With walking I need the music to motivate me.
I have to laugh with the bookmark answers. I give my sister bookmarks even the ones I get from the library. Also made her one long ago. Does she use them no. She uses pieces of paper. Yet I got Isabelle the Arty one into making bookmarks. The paint cards from hardware stores, she writes or does art on them. My sister will use those. Isabelle made them for a few of the neighbor's at the shore. I have to figure out ones she can do this summer. Last summer I bought packs of card stock bookmarks but I weed them out to her so she doesn't go crazy.
The bookmark I got from library yesterday be a smart cookie read. It has a sprinkler cookie on top and a glass of milk under it. It is round on top. At the going out of business book sale store I only go one which was is two Nemo looking fish but it is the type of bookmark that the objects move by emotion gallery they have a ruler on the other side.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9483 comments I mostly listen on audio, probably 95% of what I "read." The rest is hardcovers from the library, and every now and then an ebook, mostly when I travel. I have two Kindles, the older generation and the paperwhite, but as I always have my iPad with me I usually read on that with the Kindle App for the iPad.

I am a credit-every-other-month subscriber to audible, but most of what I listen to I get from the library. I rarely buy books unless I'm going to a reading of a favorite author and want to support him or her. I have several hundred unread books around here, and plus books are too expensive. I rarely read paperbacks these days, although I belong to Paperback swap and every now and then will send them a couple of books and maybe request a book.
I sort of collect bookmarks, although I rarely use them anymore because the heavier ones mark up the page or fall out. I used to use those little bronze clips as bookmarks, and now I use one of my paper bookmarks on the rare occasion when I read a print book.
