I am searching for a book about a priest who helps people in a small town or perhaps a city. It was fairly short, less than 250 pages. The only plot line I remember is that a number of the townspeople worked in a factory and one day there is a fire in the factory and a woman's husband dies. The man runs out of the fire and dies in his wife's arms and she was small and he was large. It was published before 1969.

Hi Lobstergirl - this was fiction, and I would guess the time period is somewhere around the 1950s or earlier. I'm not sure of the country, but I read it in English. Great questions

Devon, how does the priest try to help? What type of problems does he deal with? What kind of factory is it?

I don't know about the factory and fire, but a priest in a small town reminds me of Don Camillo books by Giovannino Guareschi. Could it by any chance be one of those? At least the length and time frame fits. The first one is called The Little World of Don Camillo.
