Westcoast_girl | 157 comments This was a picture book I read about 10 years ago. I believe it was new then.

The book was roughly the size of an 8X11 sheet of paper. It had a full page illustration of an idiom as it could be literally interpreted. Beside each was a full page explanation of where the saying came from and what it means. I remember one of the idioms was "the walls have ears." There was a drawing of a room with white walls with ears on them.

I know that the book was not the Cat's Pajamas or Monkey Business and I don't think it was one of the My ___ Likes to Say books.

Thanks!

Hillary | 270 comments Fred Gwynne wrote a few books along those lines, including The King Who Rained and A Little Pigeon Toad. I don't remember that it had explanations about where the true origin was, but they had the literal interpretation illustrations.

Westcoast_girl | 157 comments Thanks, but I don't think those are it.
I recall the book being very new when I read it in ~2007 and the illustrations were glossy and very realistic, probably painted.
