jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) Ok I'm to this section. Just got through the argument about the poverty level of Christ.

Renee M I kinda liked the theological/philosophical conversations. Both for the debate and the reflection of the characters and the times in which they lived.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) It is an interesting conversation. I can see how religious groups could ponder and debate the philosophical ideas of Christ's poverty or lack thereof. There is definitely a lot of passion behind each conviction.

The torture administered by the guards for the church is very brutal. Remegio confesses all to avoid torture and just die.

Renee M Yes. Behind every debate there's the memory that these were savage times where theological disagreements turned into wars and inquisitions.

Torture and fear of torture. No one is safe once those two are in the room. Ecco was more realistic about the fates of the accused than the movie adaption.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) The book does give a sense of realism of that time. Or at least it a appears to anyway. A simple discussion turns into a war on religion. Torture can definitely turn anyone into a guilty person even if they are innocent.
