Catelyn Tully Stark: "Cat" - "Lady of Winterfell" - Wife of Lord Eddard Stark, daughter of Hoster Tully of Riverrun. She is fiercely protective of her five children, but resents the presence of Jon Snow, Eddard's bastard son. Has fair skin, auburn hair and blue eyes. Has a younger sister, Lysa. Grew up with Petyr Baelish.
Jon Snow: 14 years old. The bastard son of Eddard Stark by a mother of unknown identity, he was raised at Winterfell side-by-side with the true-born Stark children. He is much like his father in character and appearance. Slender with fair skin, brown hair and grey eyes.
Robb Stark: 14 years old. The oldest true born Stark son, heir to Winterfell. Like his siblings, he knows his duty and bears it without complaint. Big and broad with fair skin, auburn hair and blue eyes.
Sansa Stark: 11 years old; The eldest Stark daughter, she is notably graceful and pretty and admires the Queen's court, excelling at all things ladylike - unlike her younger sister, Ayra.
Arya Stark: 9 years old. Youngest daughter of Eddard and Catelyn, she dislikes domestic tasks and feminine pursuits, instead opting for adventure and sword fighting - embodies the modern-day attitude of a rebellious tomboy. She is a fiercely cunning and resourceful girl. Looks like her father and half-brother, Jon Snow, with brown hair and grey eyes.
Bran Stark: "Bran" - 7 years old. The second to youngest Stark son, he aspires to become a knight. Has auburn hair and blue eyes. Has a direwolf called Summer. He loves to climb.
Rickon Stark: 3 years old; The youngest Stark son; Has auburn hair and blue eyes.
Hodor: Real name is "Walder" - A simple-minded giant who works as a stableboy at Winterfell; Old Nan's great-grandson; Nearly seven feet tall; His arms are thick with muscle and matted with brown hair, might have giant blood in his veins. He is illiterate - as a low-born child servant - and only says one word, "Hodor".
Robert Baratheon: King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm; Married to Cersei Lannister; Eddard Stark's oldest friend; A man who loves drinking, fighting and "whoring", against his wife's will; He is called "The Usurper" by his enemies, due to the fact that he rebelled against the previous king, Aerys Targaryen; Used to be clean-shaven, clear-eyed, and muscled like a maiden’s fantasy at six and a half feet tall, now he has a girth to match his height and a beard as coarse and black as iron wire covering his jaw to hide his double chin and the sag of the royal jowls, but nothing could hide his stomach or the dark circles under his blue eyes. Wed to Cersei Lannister, daughter of Tywin Lannister, Jaime's twin and Tyrion's older sister.
Joffrey Baratheon: "Prince Joffrey Baratheon" - "Joff" - 12 years old; son of Cersei and Robert Baratheon, heir to the Iron Throne. He is spoiled and willful, with an unchecked temper. Is very tall for his age with a thick tangle of blond curls hanging down to his neck and deep green eyes.
Tommen Baratheon: "Prince Tommen" - 7 years old; A plump young boy with long white-blond hair, youngest son of Cersei and Robert Baratheon.
Myrcella Baratheon: "Princess Myrcella" - Not quite 8 years old; A wisp of a girl with her hair a cascade of golden curls, only daughter of Cersei and Robert Baratheon.
Cersei Lannister: "Queen Cersei Lannister" - 31 years old; Tywin Lannister's eldest child, twin to Jaime and sister to Tyrion, she is the most ruthless of her siblings. Beautiful and crafty, her ambition is thwarted only by her impatience with the tedium of details. Has long golden hair and green eyes.
Ser Jaime Lannister: "Ser Jaime Lannister" - "The Lion of Lannister" - 31 years old; son of Tywin Lannister, twin to Cersei and brother to Tyrion, he is a knight of the Kingsguard and is often called "The Kingslayer" due to his part in the usurpation of Aerys Targaryen. He has hair as bright as beaten gold and flashing green eyes.
Tyrion Lannister: "The Imp" - A dwarf, a son of Tywin Lannister. His height and appearance are scoffed at but his cunning and intelligence are difficult to equal. His head is too large for his body, with a brute’s squashed-in face beneath a swollen shelf of brow. One green eye and one black one peer out from under a lank fall of hair so blond it seems white.
Daenerys Targaryen: Daenerys Targaryen is the most dynamic character in Game of Thrones. At the beginning, she feels weak, and inferior to her older brother Viserys. She knew that in order to gain back the Iron Throne, he brother would allow Khal Drogo to marry her in exchange for an army. Throughout that whole process she remained strong. Soon after spending time with the powerful Khal Drogo, she became more confident in herself and would stand up to her brother. Even when he was killed, she felt merciless for her abusive brother, believing if he was truly blood of the dragon, he would not have burned. Daenerys always sticks to her gut and becomes assertive and a leader as the book goes on. She used to be the quite, worrisome, and strong girl, but became a powerful, confident leader. She even remained loyal to Khal Drogo after he died and bravely put herself in the fire with his body. Daenerys survives this, and her dragon eggs, which were also in the fire, hatched, creating a hopeful Daenerys Targaryen. Hope that she can still conquer the Iron Throne
Viserys Targaryen: Second son of King Aerys Targaryen and Queen Rhaella Targaryen and older brother to Daenerys. He schemes to retake the Iron Throne from which his house was ousted. He arranges Daenerys's marriage to the Dothraki ruler, Khal Drogo, in the hope of using the Dothraki army to help him reclaim the Iron Throne. A gaunt young man with nervous hands and a feverish look in his pale lilac eyes. 21 years old. Has silver-blond hair.
Khal Drogo: "Drogo son of Bharbo" - Drogo is a powerful khal, or warlord, of the Dothraki people; Very tall with skin the color of polished copper; Has thick mustachios bound with gold and bronze rings, hair black as midnight braided and hung with tiny bells that ring softly as he moves, the end of it brushes against the back of his thighs and eyes as dark as onyx; No more than 30 years old; has never been defeated in battle. Takes Daenerys Targaryen for a wife.
Ser Jorah Mormont: "Ser Jorah Mormont" - A knight who fled Westeros after the ouster of House Targaryen; He is discovered across the sea in Pentos by Viserys Targaryen and enters his and Daenerys' service; An older man, past forty and balding, but still strong and fit; Son of Jeor Mormont; Has a neck and shoulders like a bull, and coarse black hair covers his arms and chest so thickly that there is none left for his head.
Lysa Arryn: "Lysa Tully" - "Lady Regent of the Vale" - Daughter of Hoster Tully, sister of Lady Catelyn Stark; Widow of former Hand of the King, Jon Arryn; Resides in the Eyrie with her only son, Robert Arryn; Has long auburn hair and pale, watery blue eyes; Is thick of body with a pale and puffy face.
Jon Arryn: "Lord of the Eyrie"- "Warden of the East"- A second father to Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon; Husband of Lysa Tully. He is also "Hand of the King" to Robert Baratheon.
Robert Arryn: 6 years old; Only son of Jon Arryn and Lysa Tully; A painfully thin child, small for his age and sickly all his days; Has fine brown hair and is spoiled by his mother.
Lord Petyr Baelish: Also known as "Littlefinger" - Master of Coin of the Seven Kingdoms; Childhood friend of Catelyn Stark and her sister Lysa Tully; Known for his political manipulation; Sigil is a silver mockingbird; A small man, slender and quick, with the sharp features, laughing grey-green eyes, a little pointed chin beard and threads of silver in his dark hair; Still shy of 30 years old.
Mance Rayder: Self-styled King Beyond the Wall.
Jeor Mormont: Lord Commander of the Night's Watch at the Wall; A gruff old man with an immense bald head and a shaggy grey beard; 68 years old. "The Old Bear".
Hugh of the Vale: "Ser Hugh of the Vale" - Jon Arryn's squire.
Sandor Clegane: Sandor Clegane, also known as "The Hound," is a tall man with a raspy voice and burn scars on his face. He is the personal bodyguard of the sadistic prince, Joffery Baratheon.
Ghost: An albino (white as snow with red eyes) direwolf, adopted by Jon Snow. Ghost is a litter-mate to the five (non-albino) direwolves belonging to Jon's five half-siblings.
Grey Wind: Robb Stark's direwolf. Litter-mate to the direwolves that belong to Robb's siblings.
Lady: Sansa Stark's direwolf. Litter-mate to the direwolves that belong to Sansa's siblings. The smallest of the litter, the prettiest, the most gentle and trusting. Has bright golden eyes and thick grey fur.
Nymeria: Arya Stark's direwolf. Named after Queen Nymeria of Rhoynar. Litter-mate to the direwolves that belong to Arya's siblings. Has dark golden eyes.
Summer: Bran Stark's direwolf. Litter-mate to the direwolves that belong to Bran's siblings. Has silver and smoke fur with eyes of yellow gold.
Shaggydog: "Shaggy" - Rickon Stark's direwolf. Litter-mate to the direwolves that belong to Rickon's siblings. Has black fur and green eyes. Much wilder than his litter-mates.
Ser Waymar Royce: Sworn Brother of the Night’s Watch; The youngest son of an ancient house with too many heirs; A handsome youth of eighteen, grey-eyed and graceful and slender as a knife.
Will: Sworn Brother of the Night’s Watch; Was a poacher before he joined the Night’s Watch.
Gared: Sworn Brother of the Night’s Watch; Past fifty years old.
Maester Aemon: Maester at Castle Black; Has clouded, milk-white eyes, and is blind. He mentors Jon Snow. Because of his age, he's one of the wisest characters in the book.
Old Nan: Storyteller at Winterfell, a wet nurse to the Stark children. Has been wet nurse to Stark children for many generations. She is the oldest person at Winterfell.
Theon Greyjoy: Eddard Stark's hostage and ward; A lean, dark youth with black hair; 19 years old.
Jory Cassel: Captain of Eddard Stark's household guard.
Hullen: Eddard Stark's master of horse.
Harwin: Hullen’s son; One of Eddard Stark's men.
Ser Rodrik Cassel: "Ser Rodrik" - Master-at-arms of Winterfell; A great stout keg of a man with magnificent white cheek whiskers.
Desmond: One of Eddard Stark's men.
Brandon the Builder: Thousands and thousands of years ago, Brandon the Builder had raised Winterfell, and some said the Wall.
Benjen Stark: "Ben" - Eddard's brother; First Ranger of the Night’s Watch; Has blue-grey eyes.
Maester Luwin: Maester at Winterfell; A small grey man with grey eyes.
Aerys Targaryen II: "The Mad King" - Son of Jaehaerys.
Lord Hoster Tully: "Lord of Riverrun" - Catelyn and Lysa's father. Brother to the Blackfish.

Part 1

(view spoiler)[Eddard Stark: "Ned" - Warden of the North, Lord of Winterfell and The Hand of King Robert; Husband to Catelyn Stark; Father to Jon Snow, Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon Stark. Widely known for his honor. As Robert's Hand, he clumsily investigated the death of the prior Hand, Jon Arryn. He put too much trust in everyone around him, which ultimately lead to his demise. He was detained on charges of treason (for correctly asserting Cersei's children were born of incest and had no right to the throne) and was to be sent to The Wall, but the new king Joffrey ordered his execution to thrill his audience. Doubt is cast on who is truly responsible for his death - the boy king who commanded it, the executioner who didn't question it, or someone else.
Catelyn Stark: "Lady Catelyn" - Lady of Winterfell; Daughter of Lord Hoster Tully from Riverrun; Mother to Robb (15), Sansa (12), Arya, Bran, and Rickon (4). She will stop at nothing to protect her five children, or what's left of them. Sister of Lysa Arryn and Edmure Tully.
Jon Snow: 15yo. Looks a lot like a Stark, with dark hair, long face and grey eyes. Supposedly Ned Stark's bastard son, conceived days after Robb Stark was conceived, when Lord Stark went off to war, just days after marrying Catelyn. Lord Stark brought him back when the war was over, said he was his bastard son and raised him alongside his other children. Treated unkindly by Lady Stark for being a bastard. Ned refused to speak of Jon's mother to anyone. Acquires the albino dire wolf, Ghost. Fears fathering a bastard, so doesn't have sex. Jon dreams of becoming a ranger for the Night's Watch. He is disappointed to find what the Watch is really like, is the most skilled recruit they have, but is assigned as Lord Commander Jeor Mormant's steward. His right hand is burned during a fight with an Other. Befriends the underdog, Samwell. Is mostly liked and respected.
Robb Stark: 15yo. "King of the North" - "Young Wolf". Son of Eddard and Catelyn Stark. Looks more like Catelyn (a Tully), with thick auburn hair, blue eyes, and handsome. Proves to be a good leader and wins many battles, frequently referring to his elders for advice. He becomes overconfident and stops listening to his mother, not wanting to feel like a child. Makes a Ned-like mistake of being overly trusting of people and fatally honorable, despite his mother's frequent protests.
Sansa Stark: 12yo. "Princess Sansa", "Little Bird". Daughter of Eddard and Catelyn Stark, she looks more like Catelyn with thick auburn hair, blue eyes, and beautiful. Skilled in feminine duties such as singing, sewing, embroidery, and courtesies, including knowing all the sigils of the Houses. She naively clings to stories she hears in songs, thinking they teach her about the world. The Hound likes to talk to her, but tells her she has no thoughts of her own, repeating only what she's been taught. Betrothed to King Joffrey and held hostage in King's Landing, she's frequently beaten and mistreated. Entirely alone and scrutinized even by servants, she is desperate to escape. Her dreams of becoming Queen have withered, and she slowly learns that the stories told in songs have no relation to the real world.
Arya Stark: 10yo. "Arry" - "Weasel" - "Nan" - "Arya Underfoot". Daughter of Eddard and Catelyn Stark, she looks more like Eddard with brown hair and uncomely features. She's the opposite of her pretty, feminine sister Sansa, and frequently plays with boys and convinces her dad to teach her sword fighting. She takes lessons from a Bravosi who has nontraditional techniques, and through him was able to escape the Lannisters, and survives by repeating his phrases in everything she does. Ex: "Quiet as a shadow" "Fear cuts deeper than swords". The Lannisters try to find her to make her their hostage, hoping she hasn't died, because they have been telling the Starks they have her.She escapes Kings Landing with Yoren, who cuts off her hair and mixes her in with his assortment of boys he's taking to The Wall. She pretends to be an orphan boy to survive the trip north, until they reach Winterfell.
Brandon Stark: 8yo. "Bran" "Little Lord". Son of Eddard and Catelyn Stark; Is paralyzed from the waist down; Prince of the North and heir to Robb, currently the oldest Stark in Winterfell. Has a direwolf, Summer, who saved his life and has a strange connection with him.
Rickon Stark: 4yo. The youngest son of Eddard and Catelyn Stark; Has a mop of long, shaggy auburn hair. Has a direwolf, Shaggydog. Refuses to believe his father is dead. Won't let anyone cut his hair while his mother is gone. Had a prescient dream of his father's death.
Hodor: Stableboy at Winterfell; A simple-minded, gentle but very strong giant with with guileless brown eyes; Carries Bran where he needs to go; Old Nan's great-grandson; Only thing he ever says is "Hodor", being illiterate. His real name is not Hodor.
Theon Greyjoy: 20yo. Son to Balon Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands. He was taken by Lord Stark after Balon's Rebellion and raised at Winterfell as a hostage to ensure Balon's good behavior. He is overwhelmingly confused as to who he really is - he sees Robb Stark as a brother, but was treated politely as a hostage in Winterfell, he no longer recognizes anyone from his homeland, and his real family treat him much worse than the Starks did, and he admires the honorable way of living the Starks embrace. However, he wants to please his father and find glory. His confused methods of achieving this are his ruin.
Daenerys Targaryen: 14yo. "Khaleesi" - "Dany" - "Stormborn" - "The Unburnt" - "Mother of Dragons". Daughter of King Aerys II and Queen Rhaella and sister to Viserys, she was born shortly before Robert Baratheon defeated the Targaryens and killed all of them. She is the last Targaryen. Silver hair and purple eyes. Her hair burned off when she stepped into the fire with her dragon eggs, but it's slowly growing back. Fed her dragons from her breasts. Queen to the Dothraki in the East; She is strong, confident and wise and seeks to lead what is left of her people and take over the Iron Throne. She deeply loved her husband, Khal Drogo, and doesn't believe she can birth another child. She is loved by Jorah Mormant, and highly respected by her people.
Khal Drogo: An undefeated warrior who lead a huge Khalasar of Dothraki warriors. Married Daenerys Targaryen as part of an agreement to help Viserys wage war on the 7 Kingdoms. Viserys complained how slowly he was moving and threatened to kill Daenerys and their unborn child. Drogo loved Daenerys and killed Viserys for making that threat. His death lead to the breaking apart of the Khalasar and left Daenerys with only her hatchling dragons, 4 warriors, and a hoard of children, the elderly, and women.
Rhaego: The stillborn son of Drogo and Daenerys. The witch responsible for killing the son in exchange for Drogo's life also told Daenarys she will never be able to bear another child.
Viserys Targaryen: "The Beggar King" Daenerys' older brother; The last son of Mad King Aerys;
Robert I Baratheon: Was King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm; Deceased; Had black hair and blue eyes; Fathered no trueborn heirs; Fathered eight (maybe more) bastards, all with his black hair regardless of the mothers hair color.
Gendry: 15 yo. "The Bull". Robert Baratheon's bastard son. Shaggy black hair and deep blue eyes; Big for his age, with a broad chest and strong arms. A skilled blacksmith. On his way to The Wall with Yoren. King Joffrey was having all Robert's bastard's killed, so Varys had Gendry join Yoren to save his life. He has no idea what's happening, but finds out he's wanted by the queen en route to the wall.
Edric Storm: 7 or 8 years old; One of King Robert's bastards; Delena Florent's son; Has black hair and bright blue eyes; Visitors have thought he is Lord Renly’s own son since the family resemblance is so strong

Stannis Baratheon: 34yo. "Lord of Dragonstone" - "King Stannis" - Middle brother to Robert and Renly Baratheon, heir to House Baratheon. Known for his prowess as a Naval commander, but unloved by the people. He uses a Red Priestess to gain power. He is considered to be a major threat the other kings in Westeros. Dry and humorless, his determination and stubbornness are legendary. His pursuit of the throne since his brother's death is tireless. Has only a fringe of thin black hair remaining on his head, circling behind his ears like the shadow of a crown; Keeps his whiskers cropped tight and short; Has dark blue eyes.
Selyse Baratheon: "Selyse Florent" - "Queen Selyse" - Stannis' wife; Is as tall as her husband, thin of body and thin of face, with prominent ears, a sharp nose, and the faintest hint of a mustache on her upper lip
Shireen Baratheon: "Princess Shireen" - "Lady Shireen" - Stannis' daughter; 9 years old; Has blue eyes; Across half one cheek and well down her neck, her flesh is stiff and dead, the skin cracked and flaking, mottled black and grey and stony to the touch.
Renly Baratheon: "King in Highgarden" - "Lord of Storm's End" - Youngest brother of Robert Baratheon, Renly has assumed the throne over his elder brother, Stannis, because he is widely considered more popular amongst the people due to his likable personality. Many major houses have joined him in support. Is long of limb and broad of shoulder, with wild coalblack hair, fine and straight, deep blue eyes and an easy smile; 21 years old
Margaery Tyrell: "Queen Margaery" - Renly's wife; Sister of Loras Tyrell; Daughter to Lord Mace Tyrell; 15 years old; Is very pretty, with a doe's soft eyes and a mane of curling brown hair that falls about her shoulders in lazy ringlets. Claimed to be the most beautiful woman in the realm. Her smile is shy and sweet.
Ser Loras Tyrell: "Ser Loras Tyrell" - "Knight of Flowers" - Lord Commander of the Rainbow Guard; Youngest son of Lord Mace Tyrell; 17 years old; His hair is a mass of lazy brown curls and his eyes are like liquid gold.
Mace Tyrell: "Lord Tyrell" - Lord of Highgarden, Warden of the South; Father to Garlan and Loras Tyrell
Ser Garlan Tyrell: "Ser Garlan the Gallant" - Son to Lord Mace; Older brother to Ser Loras; 22 years old; A taller bearded version of his more famous younger brother; Is thicker about the chest and broader at the shoulders, and though his face is comely enough, he lacks Ser Loras' startling beauty.

• Ser Jaime Lannister: "Ser Jaime Lannister" - "The Lion of Lannister" - "The Kingslayer" - Cersei's twin brother and lover; Biological father of Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen Baratheon; Has golden hair and cat-green eyes; New Lord Commander of the Kingsguard; A member of the king's small council; King Robb's hostage at Riverrun.

• Myrcella Baratheon: "Princess Myrcella" - Joffrey's younger sister; 9 years old; A shy little girl; Has golden hair
• Lord Tywin Lannister: "Lord Tywin" - "Tywin son of Tytos" - Warden of the West; Lord of Casterly Rock; Father to Queen Cersei, Ser Jaime of the Kingsguard (the Kingslayer) and Tyrion (the Imp); Grandfather to King Joffrey, Princess Myrcella and Prince Tommen.
• Ser Davos Seaworth: "Ser Davos" - "Davos Shorthand" - "Onion Knight" - A liege lord under King Stannis, he was originally a smuggler captain that saved Stannis from starvation earlier, and although Stannis punished his crimes by cutting off the ends of his fingers, "the Onion Knight" was raised to Lord status. Stannis values Seaworths opinion over most, due to his honesty and straight-forwardness.
