John, would it be possible to choose May's book a bit early so we have more time to read it? I'm still finishing up Seven Storey Mountain. :-)

Fonch | 2419 comments Hello unfortunately i can not vote because i could not read it the books that you decide to the best book of April :-(. I have heard about Paul Ekdomikov in a book was written by the italian writer-jornalist Constanza Miriano in the novel Casate y se sumisa, in English would sound Marry and be submissive. The people in Spain condemned the book only for his title but really the title was inspired in a writing of Saint Paul. About Remi Brague often be published in the spanish publishing Encuentro. The rest except the biography of Saint There was not translated to spanish. Well i have in my projects to to read the biography of Saint Therese, especially after Juan Manuel de Prada and Jesús Sánchez Adalid had written two wnderful novels dedicated to the saint. I wish i could vote in the next month :-).

I just finished Seven Storey Mountain myself. The concern in the past has been to pick the next month's book early enough so people can get ahold of it to read during the month, but not so early that it ends up cutting off discussion of the current month's book. We can certainly re-visit if it continues to be a problem.

The Struggle with God

Ray Schneider I've run into an interesting book on purgatory, which is a topic that Protestants don't understand at all well and many Catholics don't understand very well either. "The Biblical Basis for Purgatory" by
John Salza --- that might be one worth a read!

message 12: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) You will have to be sure to add it to the nominations for the BOTM for May.

This topic is not for nominations. It is to vote for the BOTM for April.

message 13: by Ray (new)

Ray Schneider I'm new to actually using Goodreads so don't really know the ropes.

message 14: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) No problem at all. I just saw that you were suggesting a book to read, which there are topics for nominations every month. The nominations for the month of April have been closed for several days.

Check out the list of books in message number one. You can vote for two of them to read as the Book of the Month for April. The moderator will tally up the votes and let us know which book won so we can all obtain a copy of the book in time to read it in April.

When the nominations thread for May comes up be sure to add the book you mentioned to it. I, for one, am one of those Catholics that have a hard time with the doctrine of Purgatory. I have been Catholic since April 3, 1999 when I was confirmed. I have come to terms with every dogma of the church except this one. I just can't seem to wrap my head around it. If asked I will say that I believe in it, but don't ask me to explain it. The only reason I believe it is because the church has been right about every doctrine I had to come to terms with when I became Catholic, and since this is dogma, just not understanding it is no reason to not believe it when the church has been correct about everything else.

Welcome to Goodreads Ray. I hope you find a lot to do around here. I certainly have, as so has many others. Lots of good people around here to help with whatever you need.

Ray Schneider Thanks Jeffrey ... I guess I'll figure it out after a while. I'm a cradle Catholic and been through 16 years of Catholic education so they booked me up pretty well in the old days. I'm 73.

Welcome, Ray. One clarification to what Jeffrey said. There is a nominations thread that you can add your suggestions to at any time. The list is updated after each month's vote and is updated for the next month drawing two new books from the suggestions by our members.
