Kristen I pretty much hated Westerfeld's Uglies series.
Should I waste my time with this one?

Paige I hated the uglies series too but really liked this series. Leviathan is of a genre that I don't typically read, but I thought it was very interesting. There are a lot of illustrations in this book which tend to make it seem more childish at first, but I ended up really liking it. There's a lot of action in this book and the characters are very interesting. I would try it because I didn't expect to like it and I did.

Kristen Thanks Elizabeth.

Anne, basically everything. The plot was terrible and repetitive with each book in the series, the writing was okay, but the terminology the characters used was idiotic and made the whole thing seem stupid and childish. And the main character's various journeys were long and tedious. And again, repetitive.
I think I might have liked it alright if I had stopped with the first one though....For me, continuing with the series took it from irritating to idiotic.

Darina I think the Leviathan series is much better than Uglies. I had a similar distaste for the juvenile terminology in Uglies and didn't particularly like how things turned out.
But Leviathan is something else. I don't think you will find it repetitive. The story is interesting, the characters diverse and the world is magnificent.
The only negative for me was that there is a ton of explanation and description in the narrative which slow the action scenes. The description, however, is needed because the creatures of this world are nothing you have imagined before.
