Plenty of room for all, Nik.
I have extraordinarily long virtual arms, all the better to hug the world with :)

Selling one book for however long it takes is still a cause for celebration.
Wishing everyone brisk sales ...

Shall I set up a KickStarter fund so people can donate?? ;-p
Eva; I think we all feel your pain.
But like you say, it's money well spent as we have to write.
It's just a hobby really. And as someone who goes horse (back) riding, it's actually cheap when put into that context.
So, celebrate every book sold and every review which comes in.
And let us take those small victories as impetus to continue our craft.
Hugs!
xx

Yesterday I sold 7 books, which actually had some very positive connotations.
But today I've sold none. Nada. Zero. Zilch. Sweet FA.
I'd even paid for advertising..."
Hi T.L., The book business can lead you into an emotional roller coaster. Just hang onto the positive feedback you have had and soldier on. I have read some authors books on how to promote and market your book. Then often you get onto their mailing list and you get some great ideas on how to promote. Rome wasn't built in a day so it's a slow process but you'll get there.
T.L. wrote: "I know lots do it, but because of that there's many folk out there who just grab books because they're free and don't read them. And even if they do they seldom review them.
Just saying as a friendly person. "
I've not really found that to be true with my work. Often when I put a book out for free, I get a few reviews within the next few days / weeks. I'm not really out for the reviews, but it does show me that they are being read - which is what I'm wanting. Everyone's going to have a different experience. Free books work for some, but not for everyone.

(squeezy? squeezey? Meh.)"
There are no grammar police on this thread.
squeeze-y is a perfectly acceptable word in hug world :)

(btw hugs needed for me right now; head thinking too much about big scary adult life changing stuff. And still trying to flog my charity book with little success so far)
Hey ho. Wine will kill off some of those over thinking brain cells tonight!! ;-P
xx

I'm enjoying your charity book and would definitely recommend it to anyone reading this who hasn't already bought and read a copy!
I'm an emotional bouncy ball at the moment! I was super happy and actually enjoying editing earlier today, as in boring (for me I'm sure someone out there loves it!) final read through checking for anything my editor, proofreader or I missed kind of editing, which I usually can't stand doing but today was loving. Then was thrilled to have someone pre-order my book, I've never done a pre-order before but decided to do it for my book due to be released July 26th, I wasn't at all expecting to actually get anyone to pre-order it but did, super exciting! And then in-between have been crying over nothing. What a mess, I'll blame it on not taking six weeks off after my surgery like my doctor told me to and instead attempting to carry on with everyday life as usual!
(((((HUGS))))) to everyone else as well!

Virtual congratulatory hugs to you :)
(but make sure you rest, naughty girl!)
Thanks for my big shmushy hug.
I'm feeling much more perky today.
Yay for Friday!
Hugs all round

awwww, loads of hugs right back at you too!! :) Happy Friday
Sales are awesome and it's really great to know that people love your stories, but remember why you love doing it and let that keep you going! Sales will come in time :)

that's such a great way to start the day, thankyou! :) ( and hugs!! )

Hugs (((((Jane)))))
Do make sure you get some quality rest time please. And congrats on the pre-order.

Thanks Pam, been forced into getting some rest because I'm getting a chest infection, spent the whole day today hanging out at home in my pajamas, I love those kind of days!
Happy hugs to everyone!

Jane; your body has ways of forcing you to rest when you're not being a good girl! ;-P
Monday; can be seen as an icky time of week.
So extra big Monday (((hugs))) to you all.

I'm a new writer, not even published, and I enjoy it immensely.
I know once I self-publish, I will be too afraid to look at sales info and reviews. To poor your heart and soul into someth..."
It happens even when you've published a little bit. My first book got great reviews and lots of pats on the back--I think I was a curiosity to my friends. When my third book came out, I didn't get any reviews for a while, and I started to feel really down. I still don't have many reviews, but those that I have are good ones. It is tough to stand out in any way. People don't know who you are and you have to push yourself forward, and most of all Believe In Your Book. I can't say that strongly enough. Believe In Yourself AS A Writer. Sometimes I need to put that in Neon over my writing desk, but I swear by it.

Thank you for the encouragement. You use that as a title to a book. That's a great phrase. I don't even have a website or blog and I'm not on any social media. I know that will have to change. I'll be hiding under the table until then.
Thank You & Hugs, Sue

I think I've seen you on Goodreads. Haven't I? Maybe that was someone else.

Smacking myself in the head! LOL! You got me there, Dwayne. And actually, this is the most important website to be on if you are an author. : )

You're so right! I needed to hear it again today so thankyou! :) And many hugs to everyone that needs a big hug today ♥

Jane, do make sure you recover completely before trying to get back to work. I know quite a few people who pushed it and ended up with long lasting bronchitis or other problems that would not shift for weeks even with medication, so please don't over do it. ((hugs))

thanks Eva! :)

We're all in the same boat here. I've just managed to get through most of the day without checking my sales report.
Damn! That's just reminded me that I haven't looked at it all day.
Maybe a quick peek.
No!
Is there anywhere on here like 'Sales Report Anonymous'?
I need support. Or maybe just a hug.

I love that idea!
SalesReportAnonymous on a grey Thursday afternoon...
" Hi, my names Stevie O and my habit started with indie-publishing in March 2016. At first I thought I had it under control, just a little look here, a quick glance there. But then I realised that I could check book ratings on my Kindle and it all went downhill. Now I'm down to ten a day and trying hard to reduce, but it's really difficult. " *Sits down to a light pitter-patter of applause*

Maybe a quick peek.
No!
Don't give in! It is a bit of an addiction.

What! I can check my sales report on my Kindle?
There goes my nice relaxing reading time out.

To my credit, I still haven't looked at it today.
I'm staying strong.
I am sitting here with a glass of wine by my elbow, though.

My kind of guy! Hugs to you...

No, but you can check your amazon rating to get an idea whether you've had any sales or library reads....sorry to be your enabler! Don't do it!! ;)

A special non-invasive virtual hug for you :)
Stevie; pmsl! :-0
Yes, we can use this thread as 'sales checker anonymous' too.
My name is TL and I check my sales every day. I've not checked my sales for 30mins now. ;-)
(*insert applause for me too*)
And oops; I think I may have had my TL branded hugs removed. I suppose it was sort of pushing the boundaries of self-promotion. Sorry.
Here, have a completely unaffiliated with me picture...

Hi TL, thanks for sharing *lots of applause* :)
Love the hug!

I now check mine once in the morning, and then forget about them.
(Until around 2.45 in the afternoon, when I give a therapeutic 'Grrrrr' of frustration, then get back to doing what I was doing.)

I only check my sales when somebody asks me...
But I'm not ever expecting to win the Booker prize.
I write because I'm now at the phase of my life when I'm allowed to do what I like. It's enough for me if people read my stuff and enjoy it.
The black arts of promotion and advertising are off my radar-and if people mention them I run away.

An exception perhaps if you're already selling well - dozens or hundreds of books a week - although at that point you probably have no compulsion to look because you're already satisfied that your work is selling.

22.1k impressions (wahoo)!
582 engagements (promising)
359 link clicks (great)!
Yeah; ONE book sold! :-/
Well, that was worht it!? :-(
I need a hug now!!
Oh well, I've had a lovely bank holiday weekend, and you can't put a price on that. :)
Hugs continuing ever onward.

*hugs* It's a pain in the ass getting eyes on your book, but it will be worth it in the end!

I feel your pain--but at least you sold one! My month of May campaign netted me zero :(
Hugs to you (and everyone else who needs one!)
