VampAmber | 622 comments Finished my first book, The Zen of Zombie (Even) Better Living through the Undead by Scott Kenemore . It was a quick, easy read, so I plowed through it in about two days. ^_^ It was pretty funny, but about halfway through it started getting really repetitive (there's only so many times the punchline can be "eat brains" before it stops being funny, and "so many" is apparently about a dozen). I gave it three stars, but it's more of a 3.5 star kind of book (what was funny and not repetitive was actually really freaking good, and for the first half of the book I was planning on giving it five stars). The weird thing, though, was the it was the second edition of the book (which got mentioned in the book itself once or twice, even), but it still had a bunch of typos. The kind of stuff they should've spotted the first time around, and had no business leaving in the second printing. Nothing major, it wasn't like one of those self-published unedited things you can barely get through three pages of before your eyes start bleeding, but whenever one popped up, it was really distracting, and there were at least about 15 or 20 of them. I ended up loving it at least a little anyway, though, so all in all glad I finally read it (I've had it from the library for over two months by now.........).

message 126: by VampAmber (new)

VampAmber | 622 comments Just finished my second pick, Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut . It was such a strange book, I'm not 100% sure yet what exactly I thought of it. I had read Slaughterhouse-Five already a few months back, so going in I knew to expect a lot of weird, but this blew those expectations out of the water, you know? I at least know I enjoyed it, and at least somewhat liked it, so I guess that's better than hating it? Weird...

Marla | 1036 comments Read: SYLO (The SYLO Chronicles, #1) by D.J. MacHale (4/7/16)
Different book. 2nd book I've read this month that had me confused. Action, aliens and confusion.

Thanks Joanne!

message 128: by PepperP0t (last edited Apr 12, 2016 04:11PM) (new)

PepperP0t Finished both books:

Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas 4/5 - 4.25stars &
Wrapped and Strapped by Lorelei James 4/12 - 3.75stars

Thanks Agnieszka

message 129: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 2091 comments Jodi

I finished both picks.

Us -- I loved this. I would definitely read more from this pair of authors

Enemies of the State -- trickier to rate for me. I enjoyed the political intrigue, the romance I did not like. Although I read this 10 days, I'm still irritated by all of the crying and sobbing. However, I think this was a debut book, and I liked the intrigue story-line enough to pick up book 2 when it is released.

Thanks for these picks and thanks to our challenge hostesses.

message 130: by Emerson (new)

Emerson Hawthorne | 40 comments I just finished Because of Miss Bridgerton (Rokesbys #1) by Julia Quinn

The first part of it is very slow with the plot and only the characters kept me going because I really wanted George and Billie to recognize each other as that person that was meant for them. I like both the friends to lovers and loathing to loving plots and this was a combination of both, in the best way possible. It was not until the plot turned and played more of an active role in propelling their relationship that I really started to feel the Quinn-like spirit of old. Prior to that, it seemed like a comedy of errors. It earned four stars from me because of the endearing nature of the main characters and how great the latter half unfolded.

message 131: by Alex (new)

Alex Shelby (jynxmecrazie) | 103 comments Finished my first book, This is Where I Leave You, last night and ended up giving it 3.5, rounded up to 4, stars. I was laughing out loud during the first half, but I was just amused for the last. I would still recommend it though, but it is very crude and definitely not for the easily offended.

Heya, Denise! I finished His Obsession Next Door (In the Line of Duty, #1) by Cathryn Fox last night. Not the author's best work for certain! Sadly, I'm a bit swamped right now, so I don't think I'll get to Cupid this month. Thanks for the push to get Obsession read though!

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 482 comments Finished both my books Long Time Gone (Hell or High Water, #2) by S.E. Jakes and Catch a Tiger by the Tail (THIRDS, #6) by Charlie Cochet and loved them, so thanks for my picks Emerson.

It was absolutely beautiful. A masterful combination of literary and post-apocalyptic fiction.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1987 comments I finished last night my first book - even if I started it second :-) The Healer (O'Malley #5) by Dee Henderson . Again I loved it so much. The O'Malleys are one of my favorite series and Dee Henderson one of my favorite Christian suspense writers. I'm really looking forward to the last book in the series next month. It will be hard waiting time :-)

I'm pretty dissapointed in my edition of The Phantom of the Opera (Xist Classics) by Gaston Leroux Since I realised it's an abridged edition I fell like I lost all the fun in re-reading the book :-(
I hope I'll still manage to finish it this month

The O'Malley's were the greatest! I've dabbled with some of her other books, and they've been hit or miss for me.

I learned already many readers struggle with some of the books after the O'Malleys aspecially the so called stand-alone (whiche are still losely interconnected). Since I started with one of the stand-alones and had no real reference point I really loved the first, the second one (Undetected) not so much - other than that I loved all of her books.

Did you see Dee Henderson will is bringing out a new mystery series this year: Traces of Guilt (An Evie Blackwell Cold Case) by Dee Henderson ?

No, I sure hadn't! Thanks for the heads up!

That's interesting about how readers are approaching her backlist...I still want to go back and read some of the Uncommon Heroes Books...True Valor was just off for me for some reason, and I wonder if I just wasn't in the mood for it.

Kay (Brigidsmomma) Compton (brigidsmomma) | 565 comments I have finished both of my challenge books for this month... Complicated Matters by LF Gillis , a standalone that was really good, if not something that I might normally choose. 5 stars.

And The Sound Of Footsteps by Diane Patterson Not quite sure about this one... rather a weird piece... 4 stars.

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 704 comments I just finished A Constellation of Vital Phenomena and it was simply an amazing book! It's one that's going to take a little while to fully process and I can't really find the right words to describe it yet, but it's now in my all-time favorite pile!! Thank you so much for giving me the final nudge to read it, Colleen! :)

A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra Anthony Marra 4-24-2016 | 5*

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1919 comments Alex,

I finished both Real (Real, #1) by Katy Evans and Eighth Grave After Dark (Charley Davidson, #8) by Darynda Jones . Real was a 3.5 star read for me. I liked the concept and I liked the hero but the heroine was a bit obsessed with sex and it made me mad when she got all pissed because the hero wanted to get to know her better before they had sex. If the roles were reversed and the hero threw a fit for that it wouldn't be tolerated so a woman shouldn't be able to do that either.

The latest Charley book was a little disappointing - it didn't seem much happened in this book until the very end. And if Charley told us how gorgeous/sexy Reyes was one more time I was going to scream. But I'll keep reading this series.

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 272 comments Finally got The Empty Chair (Lincoln Rhyme, #3) by Jeffery Deaver read on the 30th. Nothing like leaving it to the last minute. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the pick!

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 704 comments I finished my second book and it was another hit! This was my first book by Alice Hoffman and there were some very mixed reviews about this one, but I thought it was a great book! I cried at several times throughout it. That it often my test of a great book or not! Colleen did an outstanding job picking books for me in April!!!

message 145: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jojolyn) | 673 comments I read both of my dusty books, Start Me Up (Hearts and Crafts, #1) by Nicole Michaels and Take Me Home Tonight (Rock Star Romance, #3) by Erika Kelly . Start me up was the beginning of a series, I gave it ***. I completed the rest of the series also, it was only an ok series.

I really enjoyed Take Me Home Tonight (Rock Star Romance, #3) by Erika Kelly . I gave it ****. In this book, I thought the characters had a lot of emotional involvement. I also liked how family oriented Calix was and how he looked after everyone. I gave this book a ****.
