Quantum (quantumkatana) I just read this somewhat dated article about how smartphone growth outpaces all other digital devices and that e-readers are on the decline.

i do prefer my kindle to my iphone for reading, but it's hard to beat the convenience of the all-on-one-device smartphone. i see people reading on their phones on the commuter train. i wonder if they're reading a book?

short fiction, particularly flash fiction, is well-suited to the smartphone, kindle, and tablet. so, that length has good market growth potential. people do sit on the couch and read or in their beds and read on their laptops before they go to bed, so the novel still has its place at the table.

Nik Krasno | 19865 comments Haven't tried reading a book on a smartphone, but for some reason I don't anticipate a pleasant experience. Reading doc-s on a cell phone, received as e-mail attachments has quite awkward feeling for me. I might try though to get first hand experience.

On the other hand, could be that I have a stupidphone that has yet to become smarter -:)

Graeme Rodaughan Smartphones really look to be too small to be an enjoyable reading experience.

I think it depends on the smartphone - I may one day replace my Kindle, my tablet and my smartphone with a large-screen smartphone (or "phablet").
