Teymour Shahabi (teymourshahabi) Hello fellow authors / readers,

I just finished the final (final!!) proofread of a young adult mystery novel, and I'm trying to figure out when is the best time to release the book. I lay out my considerations in this short video, and I'd love to know your thoughts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UBjt...

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Keep on writing / reading!

Grace Crandall (gracecrandall) | 108 comments It sounds like a release in the fall might work best--time to gather reviews and materials, and more people online through the cold months could also mean more readers... Then perhaps run some reduced-price sales or something the following may/june to attract the teenagers fresh out of school?

Thanks Grace for this thoughtful reply. That's a great point about the weather: I definitely read more in the winter! Fall does make sense...

Lenita Sheridan | 1010 comments I've finished the last chapter of the last book in my trilogy. Then it needs to be typed in and edited. After that the whole book needs formatting and proofreading. I'm planning to have it out in the summer. I'm thinking if you want to attract the teenagers, don't wait a whole year, try releasing it this summer.

C.M. Herndon (cmherndon) | 10 comments Lenita has a point, summer teens that like to read will be on the prowl in May/June. If you want to market pre-release and release in summer, start now. Grace makes a great strategy point with reducing sales later on down the road to draw in more readers. One of my promo tactics are character quotes. My readers seem to love them so far!

Best of luck to you, Teymour

Thanks Lenita! Is there a particular time in the summer (closer to spring or fall) that you'd shoot for? Good luck with the last book in your trilogy! (And I thought *one* book was a lot of work!)

Thanks Justin: that's a great point. How many months would you say those efforts typically require? I'm estimating the time budget for reviews and marketing at 3-4 months, which might push me into late summer...

Thanks so much C. M. for the insights and the encouragement. I love the idea of character quotes! Hadn't thought of that. Thank you!
