Summary- Billy is a boy who has a dream. To be the best hunter around. But what he mostly dreams about is having to coon hounds all to himself. He spends most of his days helping his pa out on the farm but he loves going to his grandpas store to listen to stories. He had been asking his parents for two hounds for a while when his dad went out and got him some traps to help him catch coons on his own without the need of dogs. But this did not satisfy the urge to get a dog so Billy saves up for 2 years and with the help of his grandpa he orders to pure bread hound dogs and he has never been so excited. They go on many adventures together, but all good times have to come to and end...
Opinion- I absolutely loved this book, I read it every day for a week and when it was over I had mixed feelings. I loved how it made you feel throughout the whole book, in certain parts I found my self smiling and in other parts I wanted to cry with the characters, it was truly a well written book. The book made me want to have Billy's life. I want to live in the mountains and have two amazing dogs that are great hunters and companions. This book left me very sad and wondering why they didn't make a second one. If you have a weak heart this will make you cry, but it is a book that everyone should read.
