Wrong birthdate?

I noticed some inconsistencies with Ludwig Bemelmans. author of the Madeline books.

Goodreads says he was born December 13, 1901.
Wikipedia says he was born April 27, 1898.
Both list the date of death as October 1, 1962.
Madeline.com lists him as having lived 1896-1963.

What is the correct info?
(and this is the kind of thing that can be corrected by a librarian, right?)

LoC has 1898 also. Changed, unless someone has better info.
