Brenden Taylor | 2 comments I've started listening to the Rob Inglis narration from Audible. Boy, this guy just draws you in.

Comments for Chapter 1 so far:
1. It's weird listening to this all unfold as Inglis reads it because I keep thinking about how the movie did either similarly or differently. I may be the only one in the group that saw the movies before reading the books, so I'm coming at it from a completely different angle - not that there's anything wrong with that.

2. Life in the Shire is just that much more magnetic now.

3. Samwise is cool, but I wanna have elevensies with the Gaffer. Why wasn't he in the movies?

4. For some reason, I had never really equated Bilbo's longevity with his possession of the RIng.

4a. On that note, I think I'm going to learn a lot more about the Ring. The movie treated it like a mystery, but I think that book's about it disclose some good stuff. Am I right? Yeah, I'm right...right?

Sorry I've taken so long to chime in, work has been wearing me out. I'm in Book II Chapter 4 and hope to finish by this weekend.

I'm glad you're having fun with the differences from the films, there is indeed more info on the One Ring than you got before. One of the things I enjoy is that overall, you can either let the depth of the story wash over you, or dig deep into it if you like.

There's so much going on, and detailed descriptions, but keep in mind that Tolkien didn't waste time or space. There are things like Tom Bombadil that some people dismiss, but it's all part of his sub-creation and gives depth to Middle Earth.
