We chat with J-F Dubeau, author of The Life Engineered, first book in the Sword and Laser Inkshares collection. Find out whether the thousand year old robots in the book had any real life inspirations and whether they have sex. We're guessing you're slightly more interested in one of those questions than the other.

It always comes back to Rule 34 ;-)
I wonder what the other 30 Rules are?

Joanna Chaplin | 1175 comments At least in a lot of the US, Google maps is a cheap and easy way to get the look and feel of a place without actually having been there. For example: the Somerville police station.

Looking forward to Archandroid. I also wouldn't mind a short collection of vignettes, sort of a day in the life of a Capek during peacetime that would highlight some the possibilities both in physical form and mental mindsets. Really get a good handle on this arguably post-singularity (I'm intentionally using a little s) future. Maybe after your main novel set is over?

I kinda feel that one could see this future eventually growing into the Culture from the novels of Iain M. Banks if humans were to be introduced in mass and that Capeks became mostly Lucretious-class (they're already equipped with Maximum Fun Zones or whatever those were called). I don't see that as the natural place for the universe to grow because I think Capeks prefer to embrace diversity of form, but still.

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1803 comments I like the author's explanation. Sounds like a great novel - AI POV! - but Kindle says "This title is not currently available for purchase". I hate geographic(?) restriction *sigh

Order it directly from inkshares. That's what I did.
