Jason (atomicboywonder) | 44 comments I gave in and paid for a really nice homepage. But, I think it will be worth it. My business cards and postcards came in, so I want a nicer landing page for people to end up on rather than the original one I had (I'm learning, guys, I'm learning).

ALSO! I'm very excited to share that I have commissioned a professional illustrator/comic book artist to create a portrait of the main character Penny Thorne! Nathan Anderson is the artist and his rates are very reasonable as long as you aren't asking for anything too elaborate. Here's his blog where you can see his work:

http://nathanandersonart.tumblr.com/

I'm going to have three high-quality posters of Nathan's portrait of Penny made and give those away to the top three referrers who bring in the most orders! In addition to that, I've had 250 magnets made with the cover art on them and will be giving those away to every single pre-order I get up to my quill goal! (the magnets haven't arrived yet from the printer, but hopefully sometime this week).

I've also come to terms with the fact that I won't be winning the Nerdist contest, that's why I've put more blood, sweat, tears and dollars into other ways to promote my book.

Let me know what you guys think! Oh yeah and get the word out!

Billy O’Keefe (billyok) | 77 comments Jason, this is excellent. And it'll make a difference. The more versatile you are in terms of where you can send potential readers, the easier it is to retain them. And the site does its job perfectly -- clean, emphasis on the main objective but easy to learn more about your other projects. Nicely done.

Jason (atomicboywonder) | 44 comments So I went door to door pitching my book. My seven-year-old was my motivator ("we're not going home until we knock on EVERY DOOR!"). All three floors of my building and all three floors of the building next to ours, about 48 doors. Many didn't answer, those who did were kind and receptive, even the blind guy who I promised a braille edition.

I did get one "I don't read", which I responded to by standing there in awe like I had seen a unicorn. It was nerve-wracking, but there is something empowering about introducing yourself as a "science fiction writer".

Yesterday we went by the local bookstore and comic book shop to drop off more of the postcards, those people were really nice. I messaged a couple of minor celebrities on my facebook friend's list, because, what the hell. I will also be plugging my book on a couple of podcasts.

The face to face stuff is especially hard because I have terrible social anxiety, but I did it and I will try it again in the future...maybe after a couple of beers.

Christopher Huang (christopher_huang) | 73 comments If you manage that with "social anxiety", Mr. Chestnutt, you are a far more courageous man than I. I am impressed.

Jason (atomicboywonder) | 44 comments Thank you, sir! It was not easy, I hope it pays off!

Michael Haase (rodentwriter) | 10 comments You believe in your book, Jason. As you should. Believing in your work seems to even drag you out from under the plague of social anxiety. This is probably the most awesome thing I've heard in a long time. Well done, sir!

Remember, you might knock on 100 doors and behind 99 of them might be people who thought you were crazy or ridiculous. But behind just one of them might be a fan of your work who might not have found you otherwise...and one fan becomes a salesman that requires no work on your part. That one fan might tell everyone they know until one fan becomes ten. And then those ten people escalate to hundreds that would not have read your work if it weren't for you digging around for that one fan.

Marvelous work, my friend! I wish you the best!!!

(And bringing your kid along? Genius!)

Jason (atomicboywonder) | 44 comments I made a short and sweet promo vid with Adobe Voice! (Yes, I totally stole this idea from Michael Haase's project page)

Still plenty of time to make it into Quill, but I'm considering asking for an extension if and when we get closer to the finish line. I have a fun and exciting story to tell and I'm determined to see it succeed!

Jason (atomicboywonder) | 44 comments We're at the 30-day mark in the campaign. Please, if you haven't pre-ordered yet, please consider doing so!

I'm knee-deep in second draft mode and I'm very excited with how the book is shaping up. Initial feedback from my beta readers has been positive so far and I've already been chiseling away on my own sculpting the story toward a polished and awesome final version!
