Jacquie (jacquierogers) | 8 comments Thanks to Susan for inviting me to the group!

I've written mostly western historical romance (Hearts of Owyhee series and more), fantasy romance, western fantasy romance, and traditional western. But now I'm trying something very different. Still western, but a genre-blend of action/adventure set in the Old West with a ghost and a bit of romance (not with the ghost). The protag is Honey Beaulieu and she's a bit on the spirited side. http://amzn.com/B01BZXYYMA

My question is, how on earth do I find an audience for this? Not trad western, not western romance, not paranormal, and not enough mystery to be called a mystery. Sheesh!

J.J. Toner (jjtoner) Hi Jacquie, I think you have a good chance of finding an audience for this book. Readers like books that are different! Have you tried tinkering with the categories and keywords (or key phrases)? Take a look at my blog to see what I mean about keywords. http://www.jjtoner.net/how-to-select-...

J.J. Toner (jjtoner) Joanna Penn's article on Categories was what got my books moving. But the key phrases are probably just as important. Good luck with it. JJ

Mimi Barbour (mimibarbour) | 1 comments Thanks for the invitation, Susan. I've struggled also with this Indie career and it hasn't been easy at all. One thing I can mention is that it helps if you can join or form a group where you can all work together. I founded the Authors' Billboard a year ago, have kept the membership to 30 authors and we've all gotten very close, are helpful to each other and have even started doing box collections. We have a weekly newsletter ( submissions are open and everyone is welcome - (only $5 to cover cost of administration) see at http://authorsbillbaord.com and we have over 10,000 subscribers now and a huge twitter and Facebook reach. It's been a real plus for us all.

Laura Baumbach | 2 comments Thanks for the invitation. I'm Laura Baumbach. I write m/m erotic romance in a number of genres. I'm currently working on a new suspense series. I have been writing and published in m/m erotic romance category for about 15 year.

I admit to not having a lot of time for interaction with deadlines and obligations but appreciate being part of the action.

Ain't that the truth, Margaret. Same here for my 4 books. I've come to the conclusion that since I'll never be a David Baldacci or Clive Cussler, I'll just keep writing and enjoy those fans who like my writing. After all, I write for enjoyment and if I get a $3.70 royalty check it will help pay for my next printer cartridge. At my age I don't need the extra stress to become famous. I am successful just having a publisher put my books out there.

J.J., your article is terrific and I'm going to put some thought and legwork into this. Now I wish I'd written down my keywords but I can back into KDP and fetch them. Also, I'm a little wobbly on categories. Somehow, it ended up in Classic Westerns. Believe me, Honey is not classic. LOL. But it made rank in the top 40, so that's good.

Anyway, thanks so much for posting your link!

Way to go, Aliya. You also did another good thing - networking with other authors. Also I recommend a book by Steven King - On Writing - a Memoir of the Craft. The first part of the book chronicles his life and experiences, then he gets into the meat of writing. A great piece of advice is included, the adverb is not your friend. Well worth reading.

Caroline Peckham (carolinepeckham) | 1 comments Hi guys!

I'm Caroline, I'm new on the scene :)
I published my first novel with Amazon back in December and now have a couple of books in my series out. I write YA fantasy and have lots of good reviews which I got from giving out advanced reader copies. The problem is getting visibility! I find even with paid advertising, free promotions, and giveaways nothing seems to be effective in keeping your book ranking long enough for it to take off.
It's super frustrating!

Does anyone else find this? Or has found a away to overcome it?

Here's a link to my first book Creeping Shadow:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019...

I look forward to getting to know you all!

~ Caroline
