I'm currently reading Save the Date by Morgan Matson. At some point in this book, the main character is in a room decorated for an Australian-themed birthday party, and there is a banner that reads "Happy Perth-Day" 😂

I have nearly finished reading Into the Night by Sarah Bailey, which I am enjoying very much.

However, just wondering about the usage of a word 'ocean' in a paragraph on page 233. ".....swimming in the ocean with …….at St Kilda Beach." I grew up in Melbourne and never referred to Port Phillip Bay as the ocean.

No, you’re right - it’s either the bay or the sea!!

I started reading The Orchardist's Daughter yesterday, and I like it so far (although I’m very wary of Kurt - not sure where that is going yet). Having spent a big chunk of my life living in Hobart, I have a strong visual image of the story’s location, even though it’s not named at this stage. It could be north or south of Hobart, but I’m imagining it being (north) further up the Derwent, past New Norfolk, around the Mt Field area. But the apple orchards suggest south... Hmmm.

I have The Orchardist's Daughter on reserve at the Library. Hopefully it should come up soon.
Karen Viggers is to present a workshop at the ACT Library (Gungahlin) on 13 March titled "the Write Stuff", where she will discuss place.
This is part of the blurb about her on the Library site: "She writes contemporary realist fiction set in Australian landscapes, and her work explores connection with the bush, grief and loss, healing in nature, death, family, marriage and friendship."

I was flipping through the acknowledgements earlier, and she mentions that she wrote part of the book somewhere on the Huon River, which points towards a more southerly location. Probably right in the middle of the area that’s being burnt out at the moment.

I've picked up a copy of The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi.
Its a YA Fantasy/ Adventure novel, were three individuals come together to hunt down a particular artifact that is going to save the world! its set in Paris 1889 and it sounds amazing :D

I'm really enjoying getting to know the characters! I especially like how each get a chance to share their perspective on the events that are happening etc through their own chapters :)

I'm about halfway through The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo. It's YA written in verse and winner of the 2019 Michael L Printz Award; the American Library Association 's award for YA Literature. Because I work in a school library I always keep up with the Printz winners. This one is really good.

PattyMacDotComma's review sucked me into the Josef Slonsky vortex. I'm reading Lying and Dying and loving it. Phrynne, I am betting you would love it too. I will definitely be reading #2, #3 and #4. Patty's comparison to the Slough House series is certainly valid: different but laugh-out-loud funny. I keep reading bits to my poor DH who is reading a Mick Herron book himself.

I'm reading Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood. This is the third novel by Atwood that I read, and really she doesn't fail a book! This novel focuses on the impact that a traumatic childhood (girl bullying and abusive friendships) had on Elaine, the main character. It's sometimes an emotionally tough read - particularly when Elaine reminisces about her friends and how they treated her - but very beautifully written. I wonder if there's something autobiographical in it...

I made a start on Paris Time Capsule this morning. I wanted something a little lighter than my last read, and it’s working out so far. Kind of cute.

A bit late to the party but enjoying Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. This one won the Goodreads Choice Award for Fiction in 2017.
