In Target - I was drawn to a copy of Nightingale by Fiona McIntosh. Since I hadn't read anything of hers before so added The Lavender Keeper to the bag to read first. I started reading yesterday and enjoying it. She really 'shows' rather than 'tells'. So far so good.

I recently read and loved The Lavender Keeper and have Nightingale on my TBR :) Glad you've picked them up - a brilliant Aussie author IMO :)

Happy New Year, I'm well into
and I think it may become my favourite new book! Due to heatwave here there's lots of time for reading. I've cried and laughed and just don't want the book to end. Lea Davey

My first read for 2017 was one from my teenage years. Kirkland RevelsNow I have gone back even further to one of my favourite books from childhood. One I read and re-read back then. The copy I am reading though is from my daughter''s childhood as my childhood books were sadly never kept. The book is What Katy Did
Nostalgia time Dale! I loved all the Katy books and Heidi and so many others. But one I have never revisited is Black Beauty. I remember the cruelty in it upset me so badly I never wanted to read it again!

I still have the 3 books sitting at the very top of one of my bookcases. I dip in from time to time, but I haven't read from start to finish for many years.

Her latest just a few months ago, The Chocolate Tin - absolutely brilliant! Also loved The Perfumer's Secret, The Tailor's Girl, an older one of the thriller genre, Beautiful Death and I have the follow up to read - Bye Bye Baby. I also want to get to The French Promise, Tapestry and The Last Dance this year. I also read a fantasy by her, The Whisperer and loved it!
She's a brilliant writer IMO :)

Haven't read that one yet Bette, but as I've loved everything written by her, I'm sure it'll be fabulous :)

I am reading Alphas & Fairytales: A New Year's Eve Anthology
at the moment. There's some really strong stories in this anthology and all proceeds from the book sales go to the U.S. charity, VETsports. Honestly, I am loving the stories in it! I think they're brilliant.

I have a couple of shelves in my bookcase for those TBR soonish... but it changes... have you created a TBR list on Goodreads?

I bought that for a friendly d for Christmas. She is reading it now but we haven't talked about it yet.

I realise I have the Chocolate tin - I bought it as a gift option for someone but gave the Nicholas Sparks I bought instead... must have known something!!!
slow start to my reading year as I am deep into English/Scottish battles in Diana Gabaldon's Dragonfly in Amber. Started last year, but will take me another day or two to finish. Soon GR will be telling me I am behind in my 2017 challenge, LOL

Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Brenda wrote: "Just have a look at my profile Denise, you'll see all the shelves I have ;)"My shelves now spill over into a second page, Brenda. Lol. Oh nooo!
see, I knew it was a bad idea to start the year with a chunky book: now GR is telling me I'm a book behind on my challenge, and it's only the 3rd day of the year!!! LOL
Just finished Leave Me by Gayle Forman, about an overworked mother who walks out on her family (ironically enough, given to me by my beautiful children for Christmas). I enjoyed it, but I kind of wished the ending had gone somewhere different.
Two thirds through End of Watch which is the third in a trilogy. I haven't read the other two but my son gave me this one for Christmas. It reads well as a stand alone but I think it would be more rewarding if you'd read the first two.

You will make up later:)
It would be a shame if we stopped reading big books in order to achieve a mythical challenge! Pity the challenge isn't in pages!

I was going to start Into the Darkest Corner, but after reading Fear, I needed more than the 40 page break that was Lucky before starting another psychological thriller, so I've started Hester and Harriet instead.
I'm about half way through Red Country by Joe Abercrombie. I admire how he can make you love despicable characters.

Loved that book. Actually I love everything he writes! And yes his biggest talent is making the worst characters charming. (e.g. Logen Ninefingers who if I remember rightly features in that book).

He sure does Phrynne, I love The Bloody Nine :) and I have to agree, I love everthing he writes too. Joe has got to be my favourite author to date.

Thanks Brenda, I'm still learning the ropes here :)
I am having a great time reading
for my Janurary challenge.Since it is about art works stolen in Ireland I hit upon the idea of downloading images of the pieces stolen so I could look at the pictures while reading about them.

I've just started on "Shadow of the Thylacine" by Col Bailey. I don't believe that this animal can still exist. I'm hoping to be convinced otherwise.

I'm reading Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, a SciFi thriller. A college physics professor is kidnapped and wakes up in an alternative world. Very good so far!

That sounds like a book I could enjoy. It always seemed vastly unlikely to me that they would not be extinct, but after a few visits to Tassie I am maintaining a hopeful open mind.
