Personal Reaction: It was a interesting book, I'm not sure how I felt about the book. I'm a very picky reader, I like certain type of books. The books I usually read are romance and horror. When I first seen this book, I flipped through the pages it looked gory and deep. I like those type of books. That is exactly how you could describe this book. It is deep. It's a type of book where you have to like these types of books. I'm not really into graphic novels, feel like they are just to easy to read. I've never liked picture books or other books that had a lot of pictures throughout it, but I'm pretty sure the book wouldn't have made sense if it didn't have the graphics.

Summary: The book is about a boy named David, he lives in an abusive family, it is setup like a timeline of his life. It starts when he was 6. From there it talks about how when he was born his respiratory and digestive track wasn't working properly. Hos dad was a radiologist and did X-rays on him to try to help. As the years go he talks about how is mother and father didn't really care about him. The only time his mother wasn't angry and yelling at him was win they had their party for the people who worked at the hospital. At the party one of the surgeons wife mention a "growth" on Davids neck. His parents told him not to worry about because they wouldn't be able to take him to the doctor until they had money. Well a couple weeks later a friend that was skin doctor, the diagnosis was a Cebaceous cyst. Well his parents couldn't pay for treatment quite yet so David had to wait. Three and half years after his diagnosis his parents finally were able to get him treatment. He had to go through two surgeries to get it all out, and the second surgery they had to take out a thyroid and have of his vocal cords. He couldn't talk for a very long time. His parents grew angrier, one day he was snooping through his dad's office and found a letter talking about how David had cancer and his parents never even mentioned it. He started to fall behind in school and just stopped caring, he would skip class or get himself in fights. His parents sent him to an all boys private school after he was arrested for driving a car without a license. He escaped the private school multiple times, and soon the headmaster said that maybe they should take home to psychiatric care. Throughout his therapy he learned his parents in fact did not love him. When he was 16 he decided to move out and be on his own. He became an artist from there. When he was 30 his mother died and a couple moths alter he kept having this reacquiring dream that his mother was leading him to the asylum his grandmother was placed at but he refused to follow her. This was a very deep book that is a memoir fro David Small himself.
