Meanwhile, it's on backorder on Amazon (at least in paperback) but should be back in stock by Friday.

I'm sure our group does make an impact on these books. We have so many members, it's bound to show a surge in popularity.

I've never read anything written by bell hooks before, so this may the beginning of a great bookshelf.
Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. It's great to be here, surrounded by so many awesome and intelligent people.

I've only read a few chapters but I'm not loving it as much as the first two books on the list sadly. Those two drew me in instantly, there's something a little bit too 'self-helpy' about this one and maybe because the author is an academic this is just a difference in writing style, but where with Gloria's and Alice's books I felt I was reading or even listening to a friend, with Bell's I feel like she's very much teaching and telling me in a slightly preachy and pretentious way. It might just be my impression but i'd say wait for the April book Serena!x

The introduction and ..."
I'm with you there on the artwork Matthew, I really don't like the cover of All about Love and I completely agree that, had it not been suggested by this book club, I wouldn't have naturally picked it up because it makes the book look very 'frothy' (which is my word for what you're calling 'flowery').

We've been brainstorming about doing this sort of thing, but we need to make sure about the legality of it! We will of course make an announcement if we manage to figure something out :)
If you've found any legal copies of the book, or methods of obtaining it, please post them on the thread here: Book Availability

I marked A LOT in My Life on the Road, since I bought it and I borrowed The Color Purple. I've ordered All About Love: New Visions and it will arrive in the next weeks, I will mark there as well.
What is interesting, is that I'm curious about April's book, although I haven't even read March's book yet. So looking forward to it.
I'm reading a lot about feminist issues, and the more books I read about these issues, the more secure I feel. What a Hermione-ish sentence.

The only downside (for me) is there doesn't appear to be an e-book version of this one. Oh well, ordered it ..."
Scribd has it on their website; however, you have to read it online because you have to be a member to download it for later.

Emma wrote: "The book's topic is about exploring the question "What is love"? And also about the search for emotional connection and learning to truly love. I'd say the reading level is young adults and above." Okay thanks! :)

Hi Alicea, you could start reading it online on Scribd, that's what I did, you don't even have to sign up to read it online: http://www.scribd.com/doc/124493278/b...

Score! Thanks for the tip!!

If one of the moderators can organize it maybe other members can volunteer to call readers who need this accommodation and read to them over the phone? Or maybe record themselves reading and send the audio files? If we could break up the task by chapters it would be a breeze!

Has anyone read anything else by bell hooks? Is it all similarly self-helpy and heavily influenced by her religion? I'd be interested in reading her first book 'Ain't I a Woman' but I really can't handle another book like this one.

Sorry to hear that! Just so you know, we have no intention of halting the discussion of any book at the end of the designated month. All are welcome to continue discussions, as we know many members get books later, have other commitments that prevent them from reading by certain dates, or join after a book has already passed but want to get in on the action. I hope that makes you feel a bit better about getting the book late!

Hopefully we can work something out. We're still investigating legality and how to best accomplish this. Stay tuned!

I think that we need to be more open minded about other people religion and not so easily turned off by belief systems we don't agree with. I try to use my sociological brain. This is how I can mentally deal with and read opinions that are 100% opposite of my own life's experience. Thanks!

Can't wait to join the discussion.

I guess this book is SUPER popular right now (might be due to this group actually) because I'm still waiting. Most likely I'll end up having to play catch up after April's book. No biggie. :-)

You're far from alone! I only started reading a few days ago, and I'll probably still be finishing it up in April, so I'm trying to participate in the meantime but I can't fully until I'm done reading. So I'll definitely be discussing this book well into the next month, and I'm sure that others will be as well!

I think many of us have only recently started, so discussion should still be very active well into April! And like I've said in earlier posts, we do not close folders just because the month has passed, so you can discuss any book at any time. No rush ;)

After today, I can officially say that I am a feminist and I am proud to stand up for what is right. I just had a rough experience today and I think that it has made me strong and it has made me realize that not everyone will accept us for our culture, diversity, or gender. This is a time where we can stand up for what is right. Even if it does seem impossible that we can't get our dream job. We just need to stand up for what we believe in.
