Book read: Ghostly Paws
Finished: 7.4.16
Rating : 2 stars
Review: This cozy stars Willa, who has returned to her home town of Mystic Notch, NH from the south when she inherits her family's bookstore. She discovers the dead body of the town librarian when she goes into work early one morning, and she ends up delving into the murder investigation herself, with the help of the librarians ghost, because it turns out that Willa can see and communicate with ghosts. While that part of it, and the characters, were OK, what made it not good for me was the fact that Willa's cat could talk to other animals, and they communicated to try to help Willa solve the murder. That was just way too farfetched for me, even for a fiction book.

Title: Anchor in the Storm
Author: Sarah Sundin
Dates Read: July 10-12, 2016
Rating: Four Stars
Review:
While I've enjoyed Sarah Sundin's prior series, the Waves of Freedom series is a notch above the others. My new favorite Sarah Sundin novel is Anchor in the Storm.
As with Through Waters Deep, I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery element. In addition, it was incredibly interesting to learn about how PTSD was "treated" during WWII and other historical details. Through Arch and Lillian's story, we learn the importance of looking at the heart and actions of a person rather than the surface.
I recommend the Waves of Freedom series for fans of historical fiction that enjoy mystery as well.

I have a few options:

PSA! The Pug List is currently $1.99 for Kindle. :-)
Happy reading team!

Happy reading all!

The Pug List by Alison Hodgson

Read: July 17
Rating: Three Stars
Review:
The title would lead you to believe this biography is about a pug, however, it is actually about a family that loses their home to a fire. Their youngest daughter wants nothing more than a pug, which is not exactly top of mind when your world is turned upside down.
I found the first quarter of the book to be very engaging. I laughed, I got emotional. After that though, my interest waned through some of the detail of life after the fire.
Overall, it was a unique read with some sweet moments after a major catastrophe.

Book read: Christmas Carol Murder
Finished: 7.20.16
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I always enjoy the Tinkers Cove mystery series, starring Lucy, the Pennysaver reporter, and this installment was no different. In this book, Lucy and her daughter are attending a protest of the local mortgage company, which has been foreclosing on many people's homes. A fire breaks out in a nearby building, and it turns out a mail bomb was sent to the mortgage company's owner, who ends up dying. Between reporting and rehearsing for the Christmas play, Lucy sets out to find the killer. The characters in this series are always fun, and I love the relationship between Lucy and her kids. I will def continue reading this series. :)

Used my free pass - the time of the story is between winter and spring.

I was between 2 and 3 stars but then ended up giving 2 stars. I finished it because I had to. Maybe if I was in a better reading space I would have liked it more...

We are 1/4 toward dog/puppy.
Happy reading all!

Jip - my plan is to wait until one of our winning categories are called.
As long as you started it after wreath was called, yes. You're on team four, though, so make sure to post there. :)

We could win if we get wreath, ship/boat and boots.
Do you want to wait for hot drink/baby/child or start working toward wreath, ship/boat and boots?

category: dog/puppy

We have two of four completed for dog, so if we finish that category, we'll go ahead and request the stamp even if it doesn't count for Bingo.

It's been great fun! Hope you enjoyed it too. Happy reading!!
