I decided to take sins of the night, because I had only just finished reading it for the second time the night before....it's not really a book to grab me. But I like the French Dark Huntress so I decided to pay her a visit.
Now as you know the mind affects the body. But the body also affects the mind. So I thought how would it affect the book if I read one page and acted confused? You know make confused facial expressions, and keep thinking to myself "are you sure this is the same book? Are you sure I haven't already read it?" "Are you positive?" I did this for 2 minutes I wanted to check the affect it had.
And the story changed, my brain didn't register that I already recognized the words on the page....it viewed it as different.
I did this because I need some of SK's books to satisfy me until her new ones come out - which aint fast enough. But I'm sick of being able to recognize the words already - in order for me to reread something I have to wait a long time....like a year or so, so it doesn't bore me with the fact I recognized it already.
I wanted to quicken the process. Make it at most a week between readings.
However there was a problem in my experiment. My brain was too busy looking at the story in confusion to really enjoy the moment. Instead I was just left gaping at the book with a confused face, wondering how I'd actually read this.
So I decided to take Zarek's book dance with the devil .... and I spent 6 minutes doing this:
For the first 2 minutes I acted confused and thought thoughts of confusion after I read the first page. Tricking my brain into thinking the book was a different book.
For the next 2 minutes I acted excited and thought excited thoughts, like "what's going to happen next?" "oh my gosh I can't wait to read SK's books, I've never read this book before" Lie...but trust me your brain falls for anything. Telling my brain that even though the book is different from what you remember it being, just be excited and enjoy the ride.
For the next two minutes I imagined myself sitting on a beach with the waves gently rolling into the stream while reading Zarek's book.
The beach scene allowed my excitement, and anticipation, and the wonderment at how different the book was when I tricked my brain into thinking the book was a different book to be in a calm and composed way.
Not too confused that I missed the emotions of the story, and not to frantic and excited that I missed the details of the story that painted a beautiful picture.
And it is one of the best tricks I've ever accidentally discovered. So I'm passing it onto you my fellow Menyons.
In fact this trick even made a book that didn't really take my fancy desirable.
Oh in fact want to know how to make it more powerful?
Do it for a week 6 minutes in the morning, and 6 minutes at night...after a week then pick up the book. Believe me the story will have changed but you'll recognize some parts of it...but it'll just be different.
