Book series authored by other authors leaves a bad taste in modern day publishing.

Over the last decade there have been a spate of syndicated books released under the names of well known authors but authored now by others. This in my opinion has reduced writing and discovering new authors to a marketing ploy. The original authors no longer write the stories and the authors who pen them instead are promoted by the publishing house for the series. Fresh story lines, ideas, themes are throttled by this approach. Publishing houses have always had a strangle hold over the market but this phenomenon now means authors have 50 or more books under their names while they may only have actually penned very few of these. Do authors feel they are letting down their reading public and what do the authors who pen books to be named on the cover with the main author feel about this?
