Help with this title

This was a Historical Romance I read in the 90's. I cannot remember much about it. The hero has a title, but I cannot remember which one. They have a baby early in the novel. The hero is very cruel to the heroine and even threatens to take the baby away from her. She takes the baby and leaves the hero. He finds her later working as a school teacher. By the time her finds her, the baby is a toddler. It is a very emotional scene. The hero bends down to his own child and the child asks the heroine who the man is. It ends with the hero agreeing to stay there for a few weeks so the children will not be left without a teacher.
