I agree we should finish hand one first

Autumn {Seasoned Reader} (seasonedreader) | 27 comments Ok, Lisa, I have you down for the WILD card with Glass Sword and Savannah, you are using the REVERSE for Cinder, is that all correct ladies?

Autumn {Seasoned Reader} (seasonedreader) | 27 comments Holy cow Savannah, 8-12 books?! Very impressive! I wish I could get through books that fast but I'm a bit on the slower side so sorry everyone...

Thank you Veronica! Happy reading! :)

Autumn {Seasoned Reader} (seasonedreader) | 27 comments I'll do card number 4 and I'm reading The Girl in the Ice by Robert Bryndza. The characters last name starts with F...does this sound ok for everyone?

yes maam sounds good. I read a few in a month so I might be able to complete the 3 card as well

message 58: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok so this is the advice from a captain (Denise) of another team who has played this game before:

"When I played last year, we all pretty much just posted what we were reading/planning to read along with whatever cards the books would fit. Some people would post just one book at a time, some posted several they were planning to get to during the month. Eldarwen and I were captains and we would generally fill in the more difficult cards first and go from there, leaving the wild cards for last since pretty much anything fits for those.

We didn't really worry about finishing the hands in order. As long as everything is done by the end of the month we're good, and Maria Helena and I can move books around at the end if we need to in order to finish up earlier hands and maximize our points. We'll have a sheet to keep track of all of the different options for each book, as well as extra books if we have any. :)"

Do you all still want to do something different?

whatever works. I'm up for anything so once we complete a book just post in here the name of the book we read and what card it goes with?

message 60: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (veraj121) I will post the book and the card it corresponds to. I will go in hand order since I have so many books. I'm sure I won't need to skip around.

Dima | 442 comments I finished Four Blind Mice for 4 card.

Do we still have any cards left for this hand? or should I find something to read for the next hand?

I'm not trying to be a party pooper but do we need to make sure they will accept the book since you started it before the challenge?

I'm reading Cinder and Lisa has read it so can it be for the reverse card?

Share your passion for books

To get to know each other and share our passion for books we'd like you to share a book memory, write a couple of lines, what it meant to you, did a book change your life? Why do you always re-read the same book, which is you best book and why. What you share can be anything and everything. You are what you read and we want to get to know you.

Post your memory here: Share a book memory
(Don't forget to add your team name when you share)

I'm not sure why they won't. I started it after I saw that I was assigned to this team and that the first hand starts with the number 4. So I looked up a book that has a number four and I read it for the purpose of this challenge. Isn't that the point? to read the book for the challenge?? I'm confused.

Veronica (veraj121) DId everyone pick a book for Hand 1? I would like to make a pick for Hand 2? I would like to use the Skip card again if possible. The book will be Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes. The surname starts with a K

Autumn {Seasoned Reader} (seasonedreader) | 27 comments Hi Dima,

I think the rules state that we have to start the book on or after March 1st. What does everyone else say to this conundrum?!

Autumn {Seasoned Reader} (seasonedreader) | 27 comments Hi Rachel, welcome! I believe the WILD card is taken by Lisa...

Autumn wrote: "Hi Dima,

The rules clearly state that only books started after the challenge begins - which was the 1st March - count. So we can't use it.

Lisa (skottiesgerl) | 94 comments Autumn wrote: "Hi Rachel, welcome! I believe the WILD card is taken by Lisa..."

yes i started "Glass Sword" by Victoria Aveyard. But Rachel if you can't find something to fit that category we can switch cards I have a book that will fit with Number 3. I can use Glass Sword in another hand. Just let me know.

yeah I agree (but I have never played this before) Maybe Captain could contact a mod or someone just to be sure. I would love us to be able to use the book

message 81: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (skottiesgerl) | 94 comments Anyone think we could use our thread as a book????? We spend more time in here chatting and trying to figure things out then actually reading.......(hahahaha) JK

message 82: by Raylie (new)

Raylie Wags (rachelwags30) | 40 comments I can definitely do #3. I'm currently reading the legends novels by Marie lu and the next one is the third of the series, champion. So, if you guys don't mind, I'll do that one awhile. Thanks for letting me know.

message 83: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (veraj121) You should go to the instruction thread on the rules of Uno. I took it as you start reading the books picker on March 1 not before. Any books started before March 1st didn't count. I see it like a race. Everyone start at the start line together. If that makes sense.

message 84: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I've got everybody.

First Hand

4 - Autumn The Girl In The Ice (character surname Foster)
Skip - Veronica Pretty Girls (title begins with P)
3 - Rachel Champion (3rd in series
1 - Janet Orphan Number 8 (title starts with O)
Wild - Lisa Glass Sword (fits 7 - author name begins with V)
Reverse - Savannah Cinder (Lisa already read)
6 - Lori Bird Box (character Shannon)

message 85: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 03, 2016 12:08PM) (new)

Second Hand

5 - Lisa A Break of Day (character - I)
6 - Lisa A Break of Day (character - S)
8
Draw 2 - covered by Lisa reading A Break of Day
2 - Dima 2nd Chance (2 in title)
Skip - Veronica Hidden Bodies (author - K)
Reverse - Lori Magyk (read by Savannah)

So for this round we have a draw 2 card which means we need someone to read a book that fits into two of the categories in this hand. We don't need to read a book specifically for the draw 2 card. This means we have 2 less books to read for this hand but we get less points.

An example from the Mods is:

Wild Draw 4 - Isaac Life of Pi 30 points
2 - Luke Tree of Life (title - T) 20 points
9 - Molly Nowhere Ranch (title - N) 20 points
4 - Spot The Gods of Gotham (author - F) 20 points
Skip - Karen Seraphina (character - K) (Draw 2 card) 20 points
3 - Karen Seraphina (author - H) (Draw 2 card) 20 points
Draw 2 - 0 points

I want the points!!!. I will take the Draw 2 card if no one minds.

I want to read "A Break of Day" by Bella Forrest Character name Sophia (for card 6) Character name Ian.. (card 5) does that work?

That won't work because we don't have category 7 in this hand. But there does seem to be a character called Ibrahim so it would work for categories 5 and 6.

Yeah I read the Draw two info wrong the first time. I edited my post to show character (Ian) but Ibraham the Guardian will work too. I don't like him!

LOL!

I found the draw 2 card quite confusing. I first thought that 2 players had to read the same book. I'm glad there was an example.

Yes, I'll try and contact a mod but I'm sure it states in the rules that it must be started on or after March 1st. When did you start reading it?

Dima | 442 comments That's fine with me. just tell me what card is left so I can find a book that fits it. That should teach me never to get overexcited over something.
I'm not reading anything at the moment. Can you please tell me if there is a free card in hand one that I can pick or should I pick something from hand 2? or would that not count if I do it?

Yep. We have people reading for all the cards in the first hand.

The cards for the second hand that don't have anyone reading for them are:

8

The cards for the third hand are:

0
1
1
5
7
8
Draw 2

Autumn {Seasoned Reader} (seasonedreader) | 27 comments I wish we could use it Dima but I think it's best to start with hand 2 for you. As Pigletto has stated, 2, 8 or Reverse are available. You could even start with the third hand if you so desire. Thanks Dima!!

Autumn {Seasoned Reader} (seasonedreader) | 27 comments PNJ wrote: "I'm also having a hard time figuring out what card is left, please let me know as well."

Hi PNJ,

As Pigletto and Lisa said, you could do 2,8, or reverse or maybe just jump right into hand 3? Whatever is easiest for you! :)

And thanks to Pigletto and Lisa for the help in keeping this organised, I'm trying but between school runs and after school activities, along with my own schoolwork, I feel like I'm floundering. Argh!
