N&S Variations
That is very useful, to know where to start. I feel like everybody except me has read 'Pack Clouds Away', it seems to be a real favourite!
Don't worry Ceri - I haven't read it yet either! I keep meaning to, but there just always seems to be so much else to do, and I forget. -_- I will get to it though. One day. Hopefully.
Actually, not many people know about "Pack Clouds Away" since it's tucked away on a membership-only Internet forum. That's why I'm trying to spread the word about it. So many people will never read it, and it's the one fic that should really be published out of all the N&S ones out there. :(
There are a ton of stories under 'Further Adventures of N&S' section on the site. But it can be difficult to navigate the site if you're new to it. Here's the link to "Pack Clouds Away" http://c19.proboards.com/thread/23957...
Enjoy! :)
Enjoy! :)

It wasn't created as such, although there is a large fan following there as a natural consequence of having started as N&S (BBC film) message board.
I like that a lot of members there love literature and history. A good number of members are authors or are/have been teachers or professors. :)

I finally found Pack Clouds Away - it is a very well written North and South continuation. I haven't connected with the author through any forum, and would like to tell her/him how much I enjoyed it. Any ideas? Also - the site is very hard to navigate, so don't give up! The site feeds me automobile enthusiasts information - which is weird, funny and annoying all at once.
Glad you found it and enjoyed. You can leave a comment for her at the end of her posted story, but the author hasn't been looking at the comments for several years (as far as I know).
C19 is a classic site for N&S/ Richard Armitage enthusiasts. It's a bit antiquated in comparison to newer social media, but I like the members and the fact that it's set up for the possibility of actual discussion not just sharing tidbits and drooling over pictures. ;)

Being summer, and I have time without teaching (!) I have been catching up on my reading. I found several N&S variations (both time travel novels) at Amazon that I absolutely love. Master of her heart by Julia Daniels http://tinyurl.com/p3e6qsr
How Far Will the World Bend, by Nancy Klein

I enjoy fan fiction, but so many folks start writing and then quit before the end! Leaves me hanging and I hate that!! These are obviously complete and both were well worth the time and money :)
Oo, good to know that you'd recommend these. I'd heard the second book you mentioned was good, but hadn't had any recommendations re the first. I will check they're both on the (massive) wish list.
I just finished this North and South variation which I highly recommend! No Such Thing As Luck: A North and South Variation I'm wanting to read some more N&S variations - has anyone found any new ones recently?
Alas, I am one of the guilty authors who started a N&S continuation and then left readers hanging... :-( My profuse apologies! Life intervened (health issues, kid issues, severe work stress for hubby) and I was away from the story FAR longer than I'd planned. The happy news is (for those who still care, LOL) is that I'm back to work on it and DO plan to finish. Just posted a new chapter at C19. The story is Mistress of Marlborough. http://c19.proboards.com/board/315/mi...Trudy, you commented that C19 is "antiquated" (ha ha, so am I) as sites go. Can anyone recommend other fiction sharing sites that are easier for readers to access? It's frustrating that C19 is sometimes difficult to navigate; I'd be happy to share my story on other sites.
I think it's fantastic that you have continued your long-stalled story! It gives readers hope and writers a model to follow.
As to sharing your work more broadly on internet sites, there's N&S fan fiction at Wattpad.com; fan fiction.net; and anarchiveofourown.org. There's also an Austen fan fiction site that also has some N&S fan fiction: A Happy Assembly at Meryton.com

Thanks for those links. I had heard of Wattpad (I think a reader at C19 told me about it some time ago, but I was too internet-illiterate to follow up.) I'll have to check these out. :)
Nicole Clarkston is writing another variation - yay! She has posted the opening two scenes if anyone is interested.https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...

Me too! I always need to check out whether it's finished before I venture myself into any fanfic, because I get so hooked up.

Roseanne wrote: "Thanks for the tip off Brenda! Just had a lovely interlude to my working day reading those 2 chapters! Want more now:))"Me too Roseanne! I have really enjoyed her other two books and I'm really looking forward to this new one.
Mary wrote: "Brenda-read those 2 chapters and loved them! Can't wait for the book to be published!"Me too Mary :)
I'm a little impatient, can't wait! I just wish that N&S variations were published as much as Pride & Prejudice ones!
So true, there's a scarcity of n&s fan fic and what is out there, I gobble up as soon as is published!!
What ones would you recommend Roseanne? It seems like you might be a font of knowledge? :) I'm always keen to discover more I may not have read.
I've just discovered a new one that seems to be complete on the A Happy Assembly website called "On the Northbound Train". You need to sign up as a member for the following link to work. http://meryton.com/aha/index.php?show... I haven't read it yet though.
Gosh no I wish, I got a lot of recommendations from other ladies ! Trudy Brasure of course, I'm a big fan and have re-read them when I needed a little pick-me-up:) C19 is filled with fantastic stuff too, albeit a little fiddly to navigate around. But many fantastic stories that I wish I could buy on paperback
Sorry forgot to add my favourites from c19 most definitely Mistress of Marlborough and Pack Clouds Away !
Yes, I love Trudy's books too. Have you read the following? I enjoyed both of them too.No Such Thing As Luck: A North and South Variation
How Far the World Will Bend
Roseanne wrote: "Sorry forgot to add my favourites from c19 most definitely Mistress of Marlborough and Pack Clouds Away !"I loved Pack Clouds Away! I haven't read Mistress of Marlborough though. I'll try and find it.
Does anyone happen to have "Mistress of Marlborough" as a pdf or word document? I'm finding it hard to find the start of the story on c19...
Brenda-I don't have that story. Checked it out and ch one is on the first page of the list of chapters, the fourth one down. Does this help?True North is also a story in this site and i plan to read that one too.
Thanks Mary. I finally found the list of chapters you mentioned. I was using the search function on the site and the only link I was getting was for chapter 37! All sorted now though thanks :) It seems to be a WIP? Not sure if it's finished. I have True North saved to my computer as a word document if you would like it. I haven't read it yet though.
Brenda-if you read MOM please let me know your thoughts. I'm reading Kidnapped at the moment- it's v good.
Brenda wrote: "Does anyone happen to have "Mistress of Marlborough" as a pdf or word document? Yes, it's still a WiP, but I will (not maybe, WILL) finish it--I think I'm just a few chapters shy of that goal. It's too bad C19 is so difficult to navigate, but I soon hope to move beyond that forum. I'm hoping to revise and publish M of M.
Does this link help? I'm sorry the chapters are not in order. That's another problem with the forum: it lists chapters in order of most recent comments. http://c19.proboards.com/board/315/mi...
Hi Louisa! That's so great you are planning to publish! Be sure to let us know when you do :) Thanks so much for the link. I will definitely read your story. I'll make sure to read it as a WIP first - I'm a details person so I want to read both versions - WIP and revised/published version. I find sometimes the details I love the most (that others find superfluous) are dropped out of the final published versions. All the best with publishing Louisa :)
Roseanne wrote: "MOM is such a fantastic read Louisa! I am dying to add that to my library when it is published :)"Thank you, Roseanne, that is very kind of you! The book has been a labour of love, and lots of fun. :)
How exciting to hear that you plan to publish, Louisa! I agree with all of you, it's a shame there aren't more N&S variations out there. I don't get as much reading time as I would like but I have promised myself that I will fit in at least a couple of N&S-inspired reads this year, I am sure I have some on my kindle.
I agree with what you all day about the lack of N&S variations available. I'm delighted,Louisa, that you're going to publish MOM as I've heard great things about it!!! Hope it goes well for you.
Hello again dear friend (Louisa)... FINALLY! Those of us that have been fans from chapter 1 have been hoping and, if you will recall Louisa, encouraging you to do this very thing! So so glad to hear it and SO glad to see your name attached to a post!
Brenda have you read a N&S variation called True North by Damaris???? I've just finished ch.1. You should read it-can you imagine Mrs T or John trying to explain 'wifely duties' to Margaret??????? I laughed out loud!!!!
