Is it important to read the first 3 first? I normally hate jumping in mid-stream.

No not really, I really enjoyed number one, but all can be read on their won.

If you can and have time then yes, if not don't worry.

Definitely not important to read the stories in order. Each plot stands on its own. If you read them in order, you will see how the characters evolve, kind of like a friendship.

Hi Karen. The July group read is my recent release, Deadly Savage--and I am really looking forward to the discussion! Deadly Savage is currently available free on Amazon (Kindle)--through June 30.

Unfortunatelly once again not in Germany :-(
I really start to hate Amazon and iTunes and their licence politics.

BTW I just combined the both Deadly Savage editions and checked all you books so it's all nice and tidy :-)

Eldon Farrell has agreed to do a Readalong in November with free copies end of October with his book.

Stillness.

Eldon is a member of the group.

But will only continue if the demand is there for these.

One month is goes well, then like this month, not going well.

Which is very sad, all the time and effort from the moderators and author.

message 70: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Elm | 24 comments I bought Eldon's book when he welcomed me into the group. (Didn't know he was going to be giving away free copies haha!) I haven't started reading yet. Have so many books on my nightstand and by my chaise lounge by the pool !!!! But will read it by November. Looking forward to it.

We also Have Alex Lettau for the month of October.

His book is called Yellow Death.

But more importantly, due to the lack of interest for this month's Read a long with Dave Edlund, I may cancel then totally.

If I spend hours arranging these and an author is willing to offer a book free for five days and spend time answering questions for a month, then no one bothers is it worth it.

I am waiting if Dave will let me forward his message, because I agree with his comments.

Dave spent every month this year reading other authors read a long's, but other authors are not following his good work or our members.

Your thoughts would help?

Because I do not understand the lack of interest this month.

message 72: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I don't know.... is it because it's summer and people are busy? I downloaded the book, just haven't started yet. I am so sorry, Dave for all of this.

message 73: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 61 comments Sean, I am confused are you talking about July's or August's reads?

message 74: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10551 comments Mod
July read a long. August no read along.

I understand it is the summer, I understand we are all busy.

I know we are all busy with Net Galley, Book Pal, Pick If For Me.

But Dave Edlund is one of our most active members and read a our few authors books with David Saniforth , Andrew Barrett and others.

Most of our read along books have been mainly male authors, we male dominate stories, but still a great thriller.

It hurts me personally as I ask these authors to do the read along and then feel upset they do not go well.

Plus I see the group grow each day and hope more members would become more involved.

I do not mean to upset anyone, but ask what you the members think is the problem.

Sean Peters | 10551 comments Mod
I would love to inform the whole group of more of the threads and news.

But I check and market the site and updates.

As a decision we have not posted any group messages, as we lose members.

Only one sent out for Book Pals, a few days ago, which was a short message just to let members know re dates and the Book Pals were there for them.

That day we lost 4 members. Not the fault of our lovely moderators, we just want to keep you informed.

We just want to try to get things right for all the group, never easy.

message 76: by Kirsten (new)

message 79: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10551 comments Mod
Yes, sadly it's true.

Often PM to me asking me to stop them!!

Dave Edlund has agreed for me to forward his PM to on here, so all members can see.

Members can make there own mind, but I do understand his thoughts.

From Dave Edlund....

Hello Sean,

Thank you for the opportunity to feature DEADLY SAVAGE in the July group read, and for the diligent promotion and effort you expended. However, it's clear the membership of this group totally rejected participation--disappointing especially since I've participated in the monthly group read for quite some time now, and expected previous authors whose of featured novels would also participate--such was not the case.

I'm trying to decide if there is any mutual benefit to my future participation here. I'll think it over, but regardless of the decision I come to, I wanted you to know that your kind words of support and generous reviews are truly appreciated.

Cheers
Dave

message 81: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Oh, that just makes me sad. Please tell Dave I hope he doesn't leave.

message 82: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I am new to this group and have not participated in any group reads yet. I am wondering though, if because it is the third book in a series that it didn't get much participation. For me personally, even if someone tells me it can be a stand alone, I could not start on Book 3 of a series. (just a thought)
I hope that Dave does not leave the group either, even though it must be very frustrating.
And for the record, I like having some message reminders sent to my inbox.

message 83: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
Appreciate your positive thoughts, Vicki. We can never tell which book is going to work and which isn't. I tend to read books in order too. It's a fault of mine! :-D

message 84: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments In regards to the PMs, I have no problem with them. I like to be informed about what's going on. Seems to me if someone is upset enough about a PM that takes a millisecond to delete, then that person is not someone who is spending time participating in the group. Let them leave. Only a small proportion of the membership actually participates to a significant degree, and I bet those people don't mind and more likely actually appreciate the informative PMs. I vote that the mods send them when they think they have something to tell us.

message 85: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 61 comments So it's not too late to read DEADLY PASSAGE? I really don't know how I missed it. Is anyone still discussing it? This would be a great time for anyone else who missed it to jump in. Please tell David that at least one of us is picking it up now.,

message 86: by Dave (new)

Dave Edlund (dedlund) | 44 comments Thank you all for the comments. I am always happy to reply to comments or questions about Deadly Savage by Dave Edlund . For any concerns about this being the third book, I assure you these novels are all stand-alone--the same as James Rollins Sigma Force or Clive Cussler Dirk Pitt novels do not require reading in order of publication.

Cheers
Dave

Thanks all for your comments.

Thanks Karen B. Enjoy the book.

Yes Janet, nice to bottle it if we could....LOL

message 88: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Dave, as soon as I see the e-book of Deadly Savage on sale in Germany I'll grab it. Unfortunatelly most of the deals available for UK or US are seldom available for Germany as well so I have to wait for Amazon.de or iTunes Germany :-(

message 89: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments I don't mind some PMs-maybe a once a month reminder combining upcoming read a longs and buddy list posting. And I'm sorry that Sean and Dave didn't get the participation they had hoped for. The only thing I can think of is to have a sign-up for people who are interested to gauge the interest and have people feel more invested in the book. Like for Book Pals, I feel more obligation to participate. In PIFM, I must admit, sometimes I don't get to the book that month.

message 90: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 61 comments Actually after reading about the book on Amazon, it turns out this is not the kind of thriller I enjoy. That's probably why I didn't get it in the beginning of the month. Sorry about that. Thank you.

message 91: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
No worries, Karen. Finding a group read that will appeal to the masses is always going to be a difficult challenge. And it is.

How do we get on the list for the read alongs to be mailed to us free of charge?

message 98: by Sean, Moderator (last edited Aug 29, 2016 11:39AM) (new)

It will come up here and the author will give us a free link on the different amazons.

Next one is Eldon Farrell in November.

Octobers recently cancelled.

Will try to find another one soon.

message 99: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 61 comments Do they always have to be books the author gives us? I like the discussions on here and am willing to buy an inexpensive copy if it's on Kindle.

message 100: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10551 comments Mod
Well I guess the idea from our point of view, as moderators.

Is we allow many authors to be on here, as part of the group, we are trying to get them to join in the threads, and take part in a read a long.

But this also helps the author promote and market his book and get reviews that we share.

I usually ask them to make if free, so it helps make the book available for more members, and if it's free it helps members at least try to read the book, as sometimes as mentioned before it might not be your type of book.

The more established authors hopefully will just do a one -off Q & A's.
