I think she uses Stannis as a pawn in her quest for world domination.

The thing I don't understand is (view spoiler)[ why she gave birth to a shadow assassin. She and Stannis had sex, but I don't get how that made one instead of a baby, since they are both human. And it seems more like a vapor to be conjured up, so I don't know why it had to be " born". (hide spoiler)]

When I read this part something bothered me.. I didn't realise it until you mentioned it here. (view spoiler)[The way I see it, the fact that this "thing" was born makes it look even more malicious, doesn't it? Typical dark magic. Using something so sacred such as the birth of a baby to bring a demon to life. I have another question... If this vaporous creature is so effective, why doesn't Stanis use it again?? I really like Davos. I like that he questions things and tries to understand things even more than someone who probably has more education.

Why are we tagging these stuff as spoilers? They happened in this chapter, right? Anyway, I'll do it, too... (view spoiler)[Davos recognised the shadow, so I think it belongs to Stannis. You noticed how Davos thought Stannis looked older and more tired than ever? I think it's this kind of thing that does it. Plus the war, of course, but it must be exhausting, having your shadow torn out of you. So maybe that's why he doesn't use it so often. I also think most of his soldiers would be scared of this and maybe he's afraid they'd betray him if they knew. Also, he can only use it during the night and he has to be close to the person he wants to kill. And it's not as noble as a full-on battle, so I think that bothers Stannis. He only uses it in special cases. (hide spoiler)]
