John Seymour The results are in. A close race until the end when Cloud Atlas pulled ahead of American Rust to win the Popular Vote.

In the Weighted Vote, American Rust ends in a four way tie for second with Embers, That They May Face The Rising Sun and Wittgenstein's Mistress. I guess they were a little over-weighted and didn't have the necessary A Fine Balance.

The remaining 34 eligible books that received votes were put into randomizer which selected Death in Venice as the random selection.

So, to recap, for our March BOTMs, we have:

Popular Vote: Cloud Atlas

Weighted Vote: A Fine Balance

Random Selection: Death in Venice

So what are your plans for March? Which of our BOTMs will you read? Or will you read about the Stone? Perhaps even split cloud atlases?

John Seymour Oh yeah, I am responsible for Death in Venice, so I guess you can blame me for that one.

All three are on my shelf and all three have been on my TBR for awhile, so I don't know how to avoid reading all three, though that seems to throw a spanner in my plan for broader reading.

I own and voted for A Fine Balance because like John it has been on my shelf a long time. I just bought Death in Venice as it was 99 cents. It's short so hopefully will get to that one too. I read Cloud Atlas before so that will be a maybe only depends on how the month goes. I have other books to read, too.

I just finished A Fine Balance. Will it count for March?

I think if you read it this year and participate in the discussion it will count. It has to be in 2016 though, 2015 would not count but then you can get 1 point for participating in the discussion. If I am wrong, John will correct me.
He is the keeper of our scores.

Another full slate. Cloud Atlas has been on my physical shelf, so it will probably be read first; the other two will come later. Now that I have the seasonal read and the first book of the annual read out of the way, I can catch up on the February BOTMs as well, and on the next instalment of the calendar challenge.

Pip | 1822 comments I wll have to track down Cloud Atlas. Death in Venice and A Fine Balance will be re-reads, but I don't mind, I enjoyed both.

Amanda Carter | 35 comments I have Cloud Atlas on my physical shelf so I will read that first. I'll read the other two since Death looks interesting and Balance is 5 stars from most people which is very promising. BTW does anybody have Midaq Alley ebook for dropbox?

message 9: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tstan) | 559 comments Another unusual month..I've read all three. Loved Cloud Atlas and A Fine Balance, Death in Venice, not so much. I'll focus on challenge and yearly read, as well as eroding Mt. TBR.

But Mt. TBR, at least on my Island, is an active upwelling volcano with no dormant period in sight.

Thank you Shuva!

Here in Sweden the annual book sale starts next week, so I'm expecting my Mt. TBR too grow quite a bit. Among other finds are the Swedish translation of our annual read , so those will be finding their way to my house soon.

I've already read Cloud Atlas the last time it was BoTM, and I'm not sure I'll reread. I still haven't finished February's books, so I might focus on that, reading Cloudsplitter, and starting the annual read.

Anita Pomerantz | 166 comments I've read both Cloud Atlas and A Fine Balance - - both excellent books! So I will either try Death in Venice, or backtrack to February since I haven't read any of those yet . . .

I'm a little overwhelmed with the whole Goodreads move and nine million other things going on IRL.

message 14: by Sara (new)

Sara (mootastic1) | 23 comments I just finished Cloud Atlas in January, so I will look for one of the others and focus my time on Cloudsplitter.

message 15: by Gina (new)

Gina Andrews | 58 comments I will try to read all three books, but so far I have only read 1 from this month, so I might spend the first part of the month catching up. After that, I will probably leisurely watch the sky using a Cloud Atlas to create A Fine Balance in my life after hearing about a Death in Venice.

I'll be reading Death in Venice and trying to finish Cloudsplitter. I've read (and loved) both Cloud Atlas and A Fine Balance so won't be rereading them.

Boy do I hear that.

message 18: by Anna (new)

Anna Fennell | 107 comments I will be reading death in Venice and A Fine Balance. I have previously read Cloud Atlas.

message 19: by Kate (new)

Kate | 11 comments This is the first time since I've joined this group that I haven't voted for BOM and you've gone and chosen two books on my TBR, and physical bookshelf, and one that I've already read! (Cloud Atlas). I'll have to not vote more often.

message 20: by Zombie (new)

Zombie Kitten (monsterkids) | 43 comments I've read Cloud Atlas and won't be re-reading. I might re-read a Death in Venice since it isn't very long. Although I do remember it pretty well from last time, so I'll see. I will read A Fine Balance.

message 21: by Sushicat (last edited Feb 23, 2016 02:02PM) (new)

Sushicat | 292 comments A month for reading in German - with Radetzkymarsch and Der Tod in Venedig

message 22: by Wolf (new)

Wolf Ostheeren (hazelwolf) | 58 comments I'm definitely going to read Death in Venice since it's short, I haven't read it in a while, and, what's more, the last time was a terrible edition with lots of typos and I don't want to remember it like that. I'll see about getting the others from the libraries, but that might be only in translation and I try to avoid that whenever I can. There's still Cloudsplitter and finally starting on the annual read, my randomized reading list, and, as always, more than 1001 books asking to be read.

message 23: by Judith (new)

Judith (jloucks) | 95 comments I've read and enjoyed Cloud Atlas and Death in Venice. I'll certainly tackle A Fine Balance in March and am looking forward to reading it.

message 24: by Wolf (new)

Wolf Ostheeren (hazelwolf) | 58 comments Dear me, I had a good hunt today and found both A Fine Balance and Cloud Atlas at a library I hadn't been to in over 20 years *nostalgia*. Now I can only hope to find the time to read them, too.

message 25: by Jan (new)

Jan (mrsicks) I forgot about voting, but I would have voted for Death in Venice, so I'll try to fit that into my March reading. I've read both the other books. A Fine Balance was a revelation, deeply moving. Cloud Atlas was my first encounter with David Mitchell and I loved it.

I borrowed Burger's Daughter and Parade's End from the library last week, so those are top of my current reading priorities at the moment!
