Anita Pomerantz | 9298 comments Here's how it works.

1. You must sign up for the swap and submit your title by February 29th. The swap will begin on March 4.

2. When you sign up, you must provide the title and author of the paperback book you will be donating to me via private message.

3. Paperback books may be used or new, but should be in good condition. Please try to pick a book you know you LOVE and that you'd really enjoy sharing with a fellow PBT member.

4. Here's how the swap will work.

- The order of play will be generated at random.
- The first person will select a number from a list of numbers that I provide. Each number is affiliated with a book title. I, then, announce which book the first person has opened.
- The second person can either steal the open title from the first person. Or, they may pick a new number and open a new book. If they steal the first person's title, then the first person has the opportunity to select a new number.
- The third person may then steal either one of the open titles, or select a new number to open.

We continue ad infinitum until all the books are opened and distributed.

5. Each person may possess a given title no more than three times total.

6. One title will come with a $25 Amazon gift certificate provided by PBT. At the end of the swap, we will announce which title includes the gift certificate.

7. You must check the status of the swap every 24 hours or assign a proxy person to do so for you so that if it is your turn, you take it in a timely fashion.

8. Because of the gift certificate, this swap is only open to PBT members who are existing members as February 29th, or who are WELL known to an existing long term PBT member who is willing to vouch for you.

We love new members and will be very happy to have you participate in upcoming activities and celebrations - - many of which have prizes - - but this is a significant prize, and we really intend it for people who have been participating here and/or helped PBT become the great group it is today.

9. Book should be shipped within one week of the close of the swap.

Personal contact information must be exchanged between the two parties involved - - privately - - in order to complete the shipping of the books. Not shipping your book is grounds for being removed as a PBT member (holy smokes I seriously hope I never actually have to implement that!).

Please note that we've had very successful swaps in the past with little or no problems.

Admins may participate (but I will not as I am running it and will know all the books).

PLEASE SIGN UP AND/OR ASK QUESTIONS BELOW.

annapi | 5505 comments I love swaps, I'll join!

Can we offer more than one book, or a choice of books?
Is there a theme to this (e.g., mysteries, romances, etc), or can we choose any book to offer?

So, there's definitely not a theme. Any book that you think a PBT member will love is fine.

As for offering more than one book, you need to pick ONE for the official swap, but you can either a) include a bonus book that won't be revealed until the end of the swap. When your title is opened, we will indicate it comes with a bonus book, but that title will not be revealed, or b) you can wait until the end of the swap and then offer the person who ended up with your book the opportunity to select from others you may be willing to part with.

Let me know if that's a clear answer . . .as it seems a bit confusing to write!

February 29th please. I amended my instructions to indicate that is the deadline for submitting the title as well as signing up.

Good question!

Lol, and just to be clear - - this isn't sharing, it's swapping! So your book is gone in the end . . .

But I have to say usually everyone has a great time!

Lynn L | 88 comments I will participate. I hope people do not mind but I am going to suggest a novel that is geared for a middle schooler. I really like this book and I'm hoping the person who gets the book enjoys it too.

I enjoy children's and young adult books too, Lynn, and I doubt I'm alone here in this!

We certainly have had international players in the past . . .most people haven't had an issue with it (it just takes awhile for the book to make its way to wherever) . . .so it's up to you, Judith. PBT can help subsidize the shipping cost if need be, but I actually think as long as the cheapest method is used that it hasn't really been a problem.

Just let me know!

I will send title of book letter today. I have a lot to go through. Picking books to read from the mountain is bad enough but to swap, "sigh".....

Amy, you are all set!

annapi | 5505 comments SouthWestZippy wrote: "Picking books to read from the mountain is bad enough but to swap, "sigh"....."

I know - my problem is that I have so many books, what with the samples I get from Comic-Con which I just can't say no to, that I would love to trade, but since I have not read them yet I don't know if they are any good, so I don't feel good about using them in a swap. Of course all my best books are keepers, so it's always a dilemma...the books I'm willing to let go of are the mediocre ones that, while I might have enjoyed, are not really those I would highly recommend.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments I usually don't keep books very long in my house (donated or given to other readers), but I do have a recent read. Yeah!! That means I can play.

I feel your pain.
I looked over my books and picked one that I think others would like or love and I have seen on many many TBR shelves. :0)

I'm so sorry, Jen. I must have missed it somehow. If you could resend as a message here that would be super helpful.

I get SO much email - - sometimes things slip by. Meanwhile I'll try to search so see if I can find it.

Oh, how odd is that!? I have noticed that with a few other people as well, who say they were so-and-so at shelfari, and are "so-and-so here", but "so-and-so here" isn't what I see when I look at their posts!
