I read this book in 2009 or 2010 - I think the main character was a police woman who is researching murders who have been made by a vampire.
The vampire is somehow like a mental disease - or an alternative ego that infests the mind of people (I think)
The thing I remember best it that the police woman has a partner and she is an artist who makes some weird art out of her menstrual blood.

I hope this is enough info ..been trying to find the name of this book for so long since I remember how I liked the different approach to a vampire story.

That vaguely reminds me of 13 Bullets by David Wellington, but the vampires in that one were in no way only mental problems. They were naked, white-skinned killing machines with pointy ears and shark's teeth, and they were absolutely unstoppable as long as they had enough blood in them to power their magic. They did have a way of insinuating themselves into a person's mind and corrupting them, though.
