In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick wasn’t a horrible book but it didn’t interest me all that much, however, I have never really been interested in history or anything like that. This book is about the ship The Essex that was sunk by a sperm whale in 1820 and about how the crew of 20 survived until they were found almost three months later. The book over all wasn’t that interesting to me but some parts like when the author explains how the men survived on the sip, I thought that was pretty interesting. The beginning of the book was pretty slow and gave some history about what happened in the book, this part wasn't my favorite because I don't like history but as the book went on it got more interesting and exciting. Also in the beginning it talked about ships and killing whales, which is why I wasn't that interested in this book at first but after a little history they got into the actual story. And hearing about crew members killing these whales was pretty sad and disturbing but over all this book was a good read you just have to get past the boring beginning and you will most likely enjoy the book overall. I haven’t seen the movie but I plan on seeing it so that I can compare the book and movie.

I liked the book, but I agree it had a slow start. The whaling industry was not a very pretty business, to be sure. I haven't seen the movie but probably will (on DVD).
I also liked the book even if the subject matter was hard to read about. I haven't seen the movie, but it hasn't gotten very good ratings.
