Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Not many people even know Alabama these days. Sounds like a good memory in the making.

40 years on, it ain't broke and they didn't fix it. Pretty good stuff although they are starting to sound like what an ad agency would come up with if asked to create a rockabilly band, complete with Bud Light endorsement. Setzer can still play but that cat logo is starting to bother me for some reason.

Gordon's slowed down a tick or two since his late-70's heyday - there's nothing here approaching the careening "Black Slacks" or "Red Hot" - but this may be the best thing he's come up with since then. If you're tired of all of the post-election hand wringing, here's a quick escape for a quick 40 minutes or so.

The young Charlie Sexton seemed to have it all, the lips, the cheekbones, the gravity-defying haystack 'do, the Bowie-esque croon, and an Austin pedigree that included several tour dates as a guitarist for Joe Ely at the tender age of 14(!). Then he was gone. Sort of.

Or, probably, my three years of high school.

Any good?

It is ok for the well known hits from LedZep, Stones, Eagles, Pink Floyd and others. I'm not sure if I've listened enough to get the full picture. Sirius DOES let you skip forward and backward in the playlist. Some songs you can restart. If you get interrupted there is automatic pause feature. Several new and updated features since I last used the service.

I dunno. Call it pop/punk, power pop or whatever you like, but The Yum Yums always pick me up.

"Governor" - Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mqJL...

Robert Bradley, a blind street musician, used to busk out in front of St. Andrew's Hall and Eastern Market quite a bit back in the early 90's. The next thing you knew, he had an album out on RCA, collaborating with the local band Second Self. His voice is truly one of Mother Nature's greatest special effects. The lyrics here sum up perfectly everything I feel about politicians.

I'm funny like that...

We had this pegged as "punk" because, well, it was from England and it was 1977 and any single with a chunky, semi-fuzzed guitar up high in the mix and a chorus which sort of sounded like the Bay City Rollers' "Saturday Night" recorded in a drunken dole queue somewhere in Blighty ought to be filed under "P."

Turns out we had it under the correct letter, but should have tagged it as "pub."

Regardless, TRB never again soared as high. One of the great singles of the era, the royalties from which should keep Robinson safe and happy until the Rapture.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments This rendition of "Like a Rolling Stone" from the movie A Complete Unknown about Bob Dylan. This kid Timothee Chalamet played guitar and harmonica and sang every song in the movie. Not just amazing, but unbelievable. If you were alive in the '60s, it will take you back.
