There was a time when Seger used to wail like a cat passing a gallstone and his songs would never be mistaken for a Chevy commercial. Now? Not so much...

They just added a fourth show here in Detroit.

Well I think the cat and the gallstone had both passed a long time before I saw him in Peoria January 22 of this year. Glad I didn't pay (several hundred each) for the tickets, thanks Carol. The opening act Larkin Poe was good.

"Wango Tango" - Ted Nugent. Stoopid with a capital S - and pretty damn funny - but the guy can play a little bit and yes we'll claim him as one of our own. His childhood home is still standing over in Redford Township, about 10 miles from Casa Doctor D.

Detroit: it's a dismal cascade of drek but it's still home.

I went to Ted and the Amboy Dukes in '74 not long before they split up. Ted was already playing a long guitar heavy song called Stranglehold. This was a good year before it was released.

Odd coincidence was that a local radio station I had on yesterday (Mother's Day of all things) was having a "flashback" moment and that was the selection.

Never had the desire to see Terrible Ted again.

message 130: by The_Ficus (new)

The_Ficus _ | 69 comments Pretty mild, 80s esque synth pop with mindless, meaningless tunes stretched over it. A bit like Bjorns but not as nice. More like Tame Impala or the Mary Onettes.

message 131: by The_Ficus (new)

The_Ficus _ | 69 comments Scout, will you be renewing your Rolling Stone subscription? I just decided not to renew Yoga Journal. I do think I will subscribe to something other than my kids' magazines and Pioneer Woman.

message 132: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Thanks for the info, Ficus. I subscribe to several print magazines (probably tmi, but like to have something to read on the john :-), but none of them come close to costing $50. Most are $5 a year. I will not be renewing Rolling Stone. I don't understand the high price, although I do enjoy reading it and will miss it. It's the only way I find out what's new in music and also keep up with the old groups I grew up with. They're pricing themselves out of the market, and that's sad. You might try Discount Magazines website if you're looking for something to read. They have great prices.
