DoodlePanda | 1226 comments So... I finished Flesh, and I want to find a way to use it here. Now, they keep saying the weather is really hot, which to me indicates that it's summer... Does that sound reasonable to the rest of you too? :P

Orlok | 555 comments It's your challenge, you get the final say :)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Orlok wrote: "It's your challenge, you get the final say :)"

True I suppose... was just wondering whether I was pushing it a but far :)

message 54: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments Well I suppose in the true spirit of the challenge, the book should probably be about summer in some way, or where the fact it is summer is somehow significant?

message 55: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I read The Summer Book by Tove Jansson.

It was enjoyable and a very quick read. The grandmother and girl both made me laugh.

message 56: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments That's what I thought too...

Sounds good, but that would cost me money... so that's not really an option right now

message 58: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Darn. I love my library. I haven't spent any money on books this year or last year. I might have to at some point to hit some countries, but so far they have been golden with ILLs.

Have you checked out the Books Set During the Summer list here on GoodReads?

message 59: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I've run out of books I want to read in my library, unless I start reading more books in Norwegian...

And I didn't know there was such a list, I'll be sure to check it out! :D

Orlok | 555 comments Homeinmyshoes wrote: "Have you checked out the Books Set During the Summer list here on GoodReads? "

Useful. I've read quite a few of them, and there are also a few I might be interested in trying (there's also a healthy dose of dross, but we'll skim over that...)

message 61: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Had a quick look, I don't own any of them so might not be able to read any, but we will see :)

how hot? Normally it has to be summer for it to be hot...

message 63: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Well, the main character was sunbathing at one point, and complaining that the flat was too hot, having to take cold showers so she wouldn't get sweaty again straight away.

message 64: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Sounds like summer to me. We have a winner.

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Hahahaha, Yay!! >D

message 67: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments So, in that case:
A book that takes place during Summer - Flesh

message 68: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments ↪ A book that takes place on an island - Desperation

Orlok | 555 comments DoodlePanda wrote: "↪ A book that takes place on an island - Desperation"

Aaaarrrrgggg!! That's the title I've chosen for the book I'm writing! Going to have a rethink...

...well done on your progress, btw :)

Thanks!

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments DoodlePanda wrote: "↪ A book that takes place on an island - Desperation"

I would have have a hard time refuting this given the cover and the subtitle and the "sentenced to a stint on Grandy Island..."

Excellent progress.

message 72: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Haha, yea this one was pretty clear, didn't need to figure out a way to make it work for the challenge at all! :P

message 73: by DoodlePanda (last edited May 10, 2016 06:32AM) (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 commentsA book translated to English Norwegian - Piken på toget (The girl on the train)

message 74: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments ↪ A book recommended by a family member - Carry the Ocean

Technically recommended to me by my best friend, but to me she is a sister, so I say it counts

message 75: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments Sounds good to me.

How did I miss this review? I hope you didn't strain any eye muscles. :P

message 79: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments HomeInMyShoes wrote: "No harm in not being an idiot."

Lol! I try :p

And I've recovered from the eye rolling now... :D

message 80: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Looks like you are almost half way there now.

message 81: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Yes, though I'm not sure I'll finish it as my reading has slowed down... we'll see :)

message 82: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments 21 books over half a year isn't too bad.

I might still be working on Crime and Punishment at the end of the year.

message 83: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments ↪ A science-fiction novel - Zero

Half way! Whoop!!

message 84: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Woohoo!

message 85: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments You know the type of series where you get little free stories to go with it, and they are number 0.5 or 1.6 or whatever in the series?
That wouldn't count as a prequel would it? For the A book and its prequel ...

message 86: by Christa, The Renewed (last edited May 23, 2016 07:54AM) (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Hey, a prequel is a prequel, and a 0.5 is def a prequel. I would count it.

message 87: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Resident Book Pusher (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 3289 comments Christa wrote: "Hey, a prequel is a prequel, and a 0.5 is def a prequel. I would count it."

^I'd count it, too!

message 88: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments Me too.

How about this, though? I've read #0.5 in Jodi Taylor's Chronicles of St Mary's series this year, but I read #1 a couple of years ago. I am about to read #4, so does this scenario work, or am I trying too hard to fit it in? :)

message 89: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Well, I think it would count. I think the fact that 0.5 was released after 1 allows it to count as a prequel to everything in the series, regardless.

I agree.

message 91: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments I bow to your collective wisdom, and will claim another category :)

message 92: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Sweet! Thanks guys :D lol

message 93: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments ↪ A book and its prequel Cinder + Glitches

message 94: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments DoodlePanda wrote: "↪ A book and its prequel Cinder + Glitches"

Nice!

message 95: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Nice indeed.

message 96: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Glitches is like 32 pages though... lol! xD

message 97: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I'd call that effective time management.

The only prequel I've ever read The Girl Who Ruled Fairyland - For a Little While was only 31 pages.

message 98: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments Well I've put you all to shame. My prequel, The Very First Damned Thing (The Chronicles of St Mary's 0.5) by Jodi Taylor, was 74 pages :D

message 99: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Im lazy. What can I say? :)
