Outlander question

I am looking for a book I read about a year ago. It was about a wife and husband that worked at a museum and they got these papers in that was written in a language that they didn't know well the wife takes the papers and goes somewhere to try to figure out what they say. When she gets home she sees that there is someone there and so she walks around the back and heads them talking in the house she peeks in the window and sees that it's her boss. Then she watches him shoot her husband and I think it's her brother or a friend I can't be sure. Then she takes off so they can't find her she ends up walking along the side of the road and hiding under a car I can't really remember much after that. Only that she either gets transported Back to scottland or a man comes to her from the past.
