Cameo Renae
My name is Cameo. I love YA fiction, and fantasy... (yes, unicorns, dragons, elves..etc. :)) I also love things of the paranormal, supernatural, and magical realms, and a good (not sappy) romance with a strong heroine and protective hero. Books that whisk me away, and beg me to stay. I like too many authors and books to mention a favorite. In my younger years... the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis.

Some of my favorite series of books include The Rats of Nihm, the Mossflower series, all the Moomin books, and too many others to mention.
Excited to join the group!

Hello! ^^ My name is Rosie, but you can also call me Rose if you like. Either one really. Haha, it's funny. I've been on Shelfari for almost a year now and I haven't really made any shelfarian friends... I suppose I've just been waiting for the perfect group to join. =) I'm definitely an avid reader and I love young adult fiction. I try to branch out to different genres, but I tend to often read along the lines of fantasy and science fiction. Some of my favorite books/series are...
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
The Sight by David Clement-Davies
Gone by Michael Grant
Faerie Wars by Herbie Brennan
At the moment I'm reading Unwind by Neal Shusterman... I think that one's going to turn into a favorite when I'm finished...
Thank you for accepting me into your group. I look forward to being apart of it!

Mrs. Lawrence (edited)
Hi! My name is Viki, but I created my profile as Mrs. Lawrence because I want to post my Shelfari on my school blog, and its an attempt at staying professional :)). I'm married and a mother of two. I've been teaching middle school for 9 years and am about to take on the position of teacher-Librarian for the first time. I couldn't be more excited!!! (So I have to read YA fiction as part of my job description and I get to use someone elses money to buy books??? Where do I sign?) I have always loved reading and have, through the years, enjoyed many different genres of books. After reading the Twilight series I got hooked on YA fiction, but my excuse is that I need to keep up with what my students read! ;) Most of the books I have enjoyed the most recently have been dystopic series like The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Gone, Matched, and Divergent. I'm a sucker for a good romance too though!
I love this group so far! Very welcoming and lots of fun discussion going on. I enjoy the group as I am always looking for new book recommendations for my students at school (ya, ya, sure, sure, my students!)

Hey, I'm Todd. I write books and I like to read realistic fiction. I'm glad I have friends who can nudge me in new directions, otherwise I wouldn't have discovered some of my favorite books. I just started The Hunger Games and I have a feeling that I'll end up reading the entire series.
I'm also a fan of movies and music and I write a blog. Looking forward to seeing what everyone is reading in this group.

Hi
Just joined Shelfari after finding it lurking at the bottom of my books pages on Amazon and wondering how the character details got there... -)
I'm an author of YA and also read a fair amount. I am currently reading The Hunger Games as someone mentioned it in a review of my own book and I realised I'd never read it. Enjoying it so far.

Jan Hurst-Nicholson
Hi,
I write YA and also children's books and books for grown-ups ('adult' seems to have taken on a new meaning!)
I'm looking for advice from YA readers on a new cover for Mystery at Ocean Drive as I've been told it looks too juvenile. Is this the right place to ask?
thanks

Hi Rebel Rider,
If you click on my author pic it should take you to the cover.
The story involves 3 teenage boys who rescue a girl from her kidnappers. They use a radio control model helicopter in the rescue.
I have a few ideas ideas for the cover.
1.Show the MC on the beach with the radio control helicopter. This might appeal to boy readers, but would it put girls off?
2. Show the three boys on the beach looking through binoculars. Would this create a 'mystery' feel?
3. The MC uses a stick to write his cellphone number in the wet sand for the girl to read. I could show the number being washed out by the tide. But would this show up in thumbnail.
4. Should I also show the girl on the cover? She appears on the first page of the story, so it wouldn't be a spoiler, but she shouldn't be shown with them.
5 Anyone got any other ideas?

Thanks so much for your help.
I forgot to mention that the book is a Hardy Boys-type action adventure and I want the cover to say something about the story (which is what attracts me to a book).
I have got access to a decent camera and lots of decent beaches (I'm in South Africa) - but what I really need is a decent photographer!! (or at least someone who knows how to make full use of the camera)
I will consult with the designer who did the cover for The Breadwinners. I just wanted to first get an idea from readers as to what type of cover would attract them.

Marie Lamba
Hi everyone!
So nice to hang out with fellow YA book lovers. I think I did an intro entry at some point, but my computer died for a good month and a half, and so I've only been online now and then. BLAH. Anyways, I thought I'd pop in and say hello (again?). I'm a YA author and full-time writer, mom of two daughters (one a teen, the other 21), and I have a gnarly poodle.
My favorite YA books change with time, but I'm an eternal fan of Sarah Dessen and John Green (who I recently discovered!). Also, I like books by Jenny Han, and I've been exploring a bit reading books about ghosts (I LOVE ghosts). Got a kick out of The Ghost and the Goth... Plus, I love Wendlyn Van Draan (spelled right?)...
Has anyone seen the movie of her book FLIPPED? I watched it last weekend and it's a perfect movie.
Also, I'm an absolute chick-flick nut. I think I write books imagining they'll be made into chick flicks.
Anyways, happy reads, all!

Hello, everyone! I am a high school English teacher and am always trying to keep up with the latest young adult reads so that I can promote books to my students. I am constantly reading...and feel "incomplete" if I don't have at least one book going at all times. I really enjoy horror and suspense, but will read just about anything. Some faves are all of the Ellen Hopkins books, the Evermore series, The Lord of the Rings, Inkheart trilogy, The Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice, anything Stephen King, true crime books, and Nicholas Sparks books. Looking forward to getting some great book suggstions. Happy reading, all!

Katricia
I'm Kate! Or Katricia. Whichever works. (:
I'm 16; I defenestrate things. xD (I also try to work that work into everything I say. No joke.)
I don't really have a favorite subject, books-wise, although I have a tendency to avoid YA Romance (And regular romance too, I suppose) novels like the plague. (Seriously, they might infect me and the next thing you know I might end up like my best friend, who thinks Romeo and Juliet is the greatest love story ever told. No offense to you romance-y people out there. ;D)
My favorite books... I don't know. Currently, probably "The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making" just because it was so much fun to read. Infinite Jest is always a favorite, although I swear that book almost broke my poor brain. And White Teeth, of course, because that book was simultaneously hilarious and thought-provoking, if that makes sense.
My favorite author is Jim Butcher by a mile, and my favorite series is anything he's ever written. xD
...Uh, besides that, I'm also half-ambidextrous and half a runner. Plus, I like listening to French music, /especially/ French Disney. I have no idea why, but I love the way it sounds.
Oh, and I tend to ramble/go off on tangents/abuse parentheses a lot. Hullo! (:

*Stardust* Flavia
Hi, I am Flavia. I am a book addict. (God bless my mother for that!)
I like many genres, so I read almost anything. From Romance and Paranormal, to Mystery and Crime. But I will avoid Horror. *goose bumps*
I am in my last year of high-school and I am a bit afraid of what the future will bring.
Besides reading, I really like listening to music (especially while reading). And something else: to make my friends read the books I like, or if not, to find something for them to read. I was successful with 3 of my classmates *sighing*, but it's better than nothing!

Jenna
I love all kinds off books and my favorite series is Harry Potter

Hello, I'm TVNC! If you know what that stands for you will think I am mad, so never mind about that! :D
Umm. Um. I'm 15. I'm from Singapore. Which is tragic, because I have no idea which desserts are autumn desserts and which are summer desserts.
Jonathan Safran Foer and Margaret Atwood are the demigods of writing (#or something). Read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, and Everything Is Illuminated, by Foer, and Cat's Eye, Oryx and Crake, and The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood. ONLY THE BEST BOOKS EVER.
Authors whose books I do not appreciate (let's phrase it that way) (and this has earned me a lot of flak but I shall say it anyway), are Jodi Picoult and Nicholas Sparks. And Stephanie Meyer, for Twilight. :P sorry folks.
One day, I hope to travel the world. (Not in an airplane, of course, because it doesn't make sense to be strapped inside a chunk of metal way up in the sky with no tangible support whatsoever.) And I shall rescue people from premature death.
I want to be a fashion designer. That is, if I'm not an author or a model. And you might or might not believe this but I AM HORRIBLE AT MATH.
Oh if you have a tumblr (ya I know Sam has a tumblr yay) then YOU CAN CHECK MINE OUT my URL is adurnarisa, though this changes quite often so yeah.
My favourite singers are Christina Grimmie Charice, Christina Aguilera and Cher. And all of them start with C.
I speak English, Chinese, and Japanese. And I USE THE OXFORD COMMA. HA.
I am unbelievably short. I love cheese and mushrooms and potatoes and tofu.
and YES. whoa that was long o__o

Kat
Hi I'm Kat! I'm an admin here, thanks to Korina inviting me to be, once her sister dropped out of shelfari (or so the story goes, although I'm old so I may not remember it correctly :P) I LOVE YA books, especially dystopian and fantasy, but I don't seem to get to read as much as you youths, a fact that rocks me to my core, but I'll probably get over it :P:P:P I think this group is super fun and I love you all!!! Well most of you. Some of you I put up with. Oh, and some of you I miight not like. Just sayin'. Ooooookaaaayy, I'm joking! You caught me. :D I like to have fun. I have decided that fun is my raison d'etre, or at least one of my raison d'etre's so there!

Catherine Green
Hello, I am a paranormal romance author and life-long book addict (thanks to my mum). I joined this group in the hopes of learning more about what you guys are reading these days, since I am finally trying to accept that I am no longer a 'young adult' but heading into proper grown-up land (kicking and screaming I might add!). Anyway, my recently published book is for an adult audience, but mainly because you need a mature mind in order to enjoy it, so feel free to see what you think... Any feedback is much appreciated, and I am happy to chat about anything, from career advice, my writer's journey, to any random questions you might want to throw at me.

Krissy
Hi I am Krissy and no longer a young adult but still love reading them. This will date me a bit but when I was a teen I loved Fear Street, Christopher Pike, Sweet Valley High, etc.
Having worked in a library and book stores I have read many young adult novels and am joining this group to keep up with what is new and good reads.

Muench
Hi my name is Kent and I'm a junior high and high school librarian. I like to keep up on all the popular young adult books so thats mostly what I have mostly spent most of my reading time on the last few years. I really like young adult reads and some of my favorites include: The Hungar Games, The Maze Runner series, Ship Breaker, Life As We Knew It and all of John Green's books. THe books that I reccomend the most to reluctant readers are the Escape from Furnace series.

Muench
Thanks for the welcome! I just finished the Death Cure last night and I really think anyone that liked the Hunger Games series would like the Maze Runner series they have a lot of similarities. I haven't read Incarceron but I had it in my library. Is it worth reading?

Hello, I'm Veronica Blade. I'm from Southern California and adore YA! Read em, write em, can't get enough.
Let's be friends! All follows will be returned.
Lovely to meet you!

RBC
Good day to you! I'm RBC, as you can see, and currently divide my spare time between reading classic literature, reading YA books, and surfing Shelfari. Favorite YA authors (in no particular order) are Arthur Ransome, James Barrie, Natalie Babbitt, Jerry Spinelli, Steve Augarde, Jostein Gaarder, and Madeleine L'Engle.
I look forward both to meeting you all and to learning about other worthwhile YA reads!

David Callinan
I've just joined. I've been published by HarperCollins, Orion and Ocean House - thrillers, YA fantasy and children's books. I'm still figuring out how this site works. I've put my own books on my shelf because I can't find anywhere else to put them.
I'd love you to read the first book in my trilogy: THE KINGDOMS OF TIME AND SPACE. Title: KINGDOM OF THE NANOSAURS.
Here's a brief synopsis.
In the tradition of 'His Dark Materials', 'Mortal Engines' and 'Lord Of The Rings', this YA trilogy blends magic with leading edge science and the paranormal with artificial intelligence.
Morgan Lane (15) has a superhuman memory and a gift for designing amazing 'gizmos'. Together with his sidekick, the Chinese American Lin Rainbow, who has the power of prophecy; and their pet orangutan Winston – transformed by magic and science into a genius with the power of speech – he is catapulted into a cosmic adventure across the multiverse to the dimension where time and space are one.
The comet Cygnus Hyperbole heralds an amazing event: the sudden disappearance of all animal life on Earth. This coincides with Morgan's scientist father perfecting a microbe that can eat pollution and reverse climate change.
The mysterious Guardians choose Morgan to memorise 'The Cosmic Algorithm', the key to all creation as a power-crazed scientist designs replacement animals, nanosaurs (air sharks, perfumed cats, flying dogs and a plethora of weird, bizarre and unstable creatures) including Taurus, a seventeen-feet tall minotaur – the first of a nanosaur army destined to control all mankind.
Morgan must protect the 'Cosmic Algorithm and the super microbe from the clutches of the scientist at all costs.
But the world is descending into chaos as Morgan and his friends battle across a dystopian landscape to locate the Guardians (they occupy a breath propelled starship inside Mount Everest) to go on the next stage of their quest.

Kristina Cardoza
Hi! My name is Kristina Cardoza and I'm the author of Pinky Bunny's First Day of Kindergarten - I wrote it when I was 5. It's about a pink bunny that's afraid to start Kindergarten. She meets a new friend and encounters a bully. It's pretty funny but it's about friendship and learning your colors. I've been reading since I was one and now that I'm 10, I still enjoy reading anything I can get my hands on! Because I'm always reading, I recently decided to start a book review blog: http://reviewsbykristina.blogspot.com. Let me know if you want me to do a book review for you. Happy reading! :D

Kristina Cardoza
Oh, I also have a Facebook fan page: http://tinyurl.com/PinkyB5 and I'm on Twitter: @KristinaCardoza. You can join me there if you like. :)

Tabitha
Hi! I'm Tabitha. I'm 21, a youth leader and dance instructor, and totally refuse to read "adult" books just because I'm an "adult". I read multiple books at once, since nothing holds my attention for long, and I love YA, especially supernatural themes. I've also got a thing for reading series'. You can all blame Madeline L'engle for that one. :)

David Callinan
Welcome aboard, Tabitha.

Hannah Richardson
Hi! I'm Hannah, and I'm a freshman in college. I like to read YA fantasy, but I'll try most other types of books too. My favorite book is Harry Potter, of course, but I also love Eragon, Montmorency, Skulduggery Pleasant, the Sisters Grimm, and anything by Cornelia Funke, Brian Selznick, Andrew Clements... I won't list all my favorites here;) I also write books, mostly YA fantasy, but I've got a few in development in different genres. (I'm not published yet; soon, I hope.) Nice to meet everyone! :)

Jean du Plessis
I am a writer of deeply boring books, courses, manuals, articles and stuff on spirituality and comparative religion. For my own sanity, therefore, I recently wrote a young-adult story. Problem is, I fell in love. One should never mix love and work, i knew that, yet now things are getting out of hand. I fell in love with the characters. I just could not end their ordeal, or their quest. One book became two, and now I am working on book three. [book 1 is available in eBook and slated for print publishing in Dec, 2011].
Of course I have absolutely no idea whether the books are any good or whether anyone else but me will “get it” (never mind “like it”) but that is besides the point. I am writing their story because I simply cannot stop. I mean, how does one stop? What happens to the characters when you stop writing? Geez, they’re only kids! Would not to stop equate doing away with them, abandoning them, annihilate them, sort of like... I cannot say it.
I am here on this forum to learn from readers and writers.
Secretly, I hope that I will meet aspiring young writers who will take this unbearable burden from me and continue to write the story, so I can get my life back.
Thanks for having me.

Hi guys! I'm Kori. That's right. I'm that Kori. I like dancing and Singing in the Rain. I also enjoy jumping in puddles and making snow angels. Rainbows and baby animals make me smile. I hate angst. Usually. I guess it depends. Spiders do NOT make me smile. I'm also an admin and would also like to see 900 members in the group before we ring in the New Year. That would be pretty awesome. I really enjoy chatting with my fellow book addicts in the group. You're all so crazy and fun! And crazy.

Hi. I'm Kat. I'm the the last admin of the group. I'm old but I act like a child. I have no time to read anymore :( Umm, I like dystopian and fantasy YA books. Also some historical fiction. I'm too tired to think of anything else cool to tell you about me.

Kris
Hi, I'm Krissy and I have been a member since Autumn. I am 31 years old and still love YA and children novels. If it's written well I will read it. I love many different genres so I do not get to read many YA books. I love Autumn and Winter holidays, Marlon Brando, classic movies, rainy weekends, big bags, boots, humour of RDJ and live theatre. At the moment I have 2 loves...my eReader and new bf.

Wanderer (edited)
Hey, I'm Jen. I'm a library page and second year college student. Love YA and JF, still, and stick mainly with the fantasy genre. I usually won't just read anything though, has to be strongly recommended or the cover has to draw me in, and there has to suspense and lots of it, or I give up and set it aside, (which I hate doing). I also never ever ever ever like the main character, and that's a fact! Didn't get as much reading done as I would have liked this year, but I believe it was more than last year so I'm ok with it. I'm an amateur artist, wanna-be writer, and failed blogger. I am also sick of school right now and cannot wait for my *sighs deeply* 7 week winter break... *grins maliciously* I like manga, but only to a certain extent. I'm one of those people who would rather curl up somewhere with my kitties and read (or write) and listen to music or go for a quiet walk, rather than be sociable *maybe those homeschooled-children-become-anti-social rumors are true!* I go through music phases and am still addicted to K-pop and am starting to wonder when I'll switch to something else..... I am easily distracted and can be quite random sometimes, too...
I also like to ramble, in case none of you have noticed that yet.......

Hi!! I'm the one with the multiple exclamation points and other grammar 'issues' all over her posts. I also have the attention span of... something with a VERY short attention span, so don't be surprised if I-- Oh look, a bird!!
Anyway, I'm your humble servant Miss Jane Fairfax, but those in the know just call me O Captain My Captain. Or Her Majesty. Whatever floats your boat. (Just please, don't call me "water". Ha ha. Bad joke.)
I'm old, too, but only according to my ID card. In reality, I'm... not so old. Just a little, you know. Whatev.
I read mostly YA fiction, sometimes the Classics, and eventually I'll read something else, but not just now. So... that's it. Good to be here! *climbs off soapbox*

Stephanie (edited)
Hi, I'm Stephanie :) I love anything YA! I read, review and blog-- I'm terribly addicted to all! I've been a member of this group for a while now, but have been MIA on Shelfari for far too long. But I'm back now and I'm hoping to get more involved in the group. So happy reading :) Love recommendations!!!

Cameron & Skyla ~ Sharing an account for now :)
My name is Cameron :D I'm 14 years YOUNG (blah blah blah, enjoy it while it lasts...) I talk far too much for any living creature, but, gotta love meh for it ^___^ Anyways, I like horror a lot for some reason... But haven't been able to find many horror books recently, mostly movies. I also like kind of fiction/fantasy, but like... Kind of like Harry Potter or Vampire Diaries (I love those series!) I wouldn't exactly call them fantasy, but they are a bit more than fiction.
I like to write more than I like to read, I'll admit it. But I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels that way. I still absolutely love reading! I also love music, but that's unrelated. I'm mildly random, and a little crazy. Just a tad.
I'm British - I live in London. I honestly cannot think of anything else. I could give you a bit of a biography, I guess. It would be some sort of Young Adult Lit (see what I did there?). I have an older sister named Riona, a dog named Luna, and I live with only my mother and my sister. (And, of course, my dog). Me and my sister are super close. I absolutely LOVE the band McFly, and Tom Fletcher is my favourite member ♥ - I love them all though!
Well that was a lame biography, I couldn't think of anything! Sorry for wasting your time! :0
Brit
Ummm what to say what to say... Well, my name is Tabitha Rose.... but my nickname is "Brit" for "British" (because British just doesn't sound like a name).
I have an account... but stupid Brit created a new one because she wasn't going to go on Shelfari for a month. The other account has not been on for like two or three weeks, and I decided to create a new one, just so I can look at my account and be like "woot! I made it a whole month without going on!" but secretly (because, to be honest, I'm trying to hide the shame from myself too), I have this one. I suppose this one could be my alter ego. I technically DO have two sides (yes been to doctors, don't judge...) and I'm kind of bipolar (but I don't think you can honestly determine it for real until you're older... which I'm really not)
Speaking of nicknames (which I absolutely was not, just decided to change the topic), mine are Abbi, Brit, Rose, Tabby (my close friends hate me, don't they?), Tabster, Abigail, Brittany (lol because people are stupid, for the last two... Abbi and Brit are automatically Abigail and Brittany to some people), and Murderer. (My last name spell checks to Murderer... lol)
Well... since this is a book group, and being a moron, I didn't say a thing about books yet, I like fiction a lot (nooooo, why else would I join this group?) And some of my favourite books are Looking For Alaska, Until the End, Harry Potter, Will Grayson, Will Grayson, and The Book Thief (okay, I'm only on page 37... but still...) I also really like Cassandra Clare, and keep meaning to read The Clockwork Prince (or Princess, or Angel, or whichever comes first).
I'm a Whovian, but I realize as I type this, that it is unrelated to books. Or really anything. Unless it's a discussion or group about Doctor Who. Or something similar. Just thought I'd put that out there. I'm also a Potterhead, a Nerdfighter, a Galaxy Defender, Mrs. Coollike, etc.
DFTBA... ~Brit

jen (hallowwanderer) | 371 comments The Falling Eagle (edited)
Greetings universe (or the select bit of the universe who might see this). My name is Lyra. If there are any other space geeks out there who now understand why my screen name thing-a-whatever is "The Falling Eagle" then I give you 37 billion virtual points.
37 is my favorite number, and when I inevitably rule the world I am stealing a week from September (the worst month) and giving it to April (the best month). I will then declare all of April a worldwide party and everyone will rejoice and frolic with the mountain goats in an extended fit of 37 induced merriment. It will be glorious yeah?
I have an arguably bad habit of ending my sentences with "Yeah?" and while I can usually suppress it while writing, one does occasionally slip out. I think that it comes from watching too much British TV, but I wouldn't trade my hours spent watching Doctor Who, Merlin, and Misfits for the world (actually, I probably would trade it if someone were literally offering me THE WORLD because, as I stated above, the acquisition of a 37 day month is very important to me).
I sometimes have issues with the correct placement of commas, and I have an unhealthy addiction to the return key. I apologize in advance for both of those.
I enjoy learning dead languages because they aren't as cluttered with all of the words necessary when speaking modern languages (toaster, car, etc). That said, my three favorite words in English are convoluted, obscure, and paraphernalia. My favorite word in French is pnue (tire).
Going back to the beginning of this mindless conglomeration (oh! I like that word too) of paragraphs, my name is Lyra but you can call me whatever (you can literally call me "whatever" if that's what makes you happy). Some things that I've been called over the years (aside from my actual name) are Lire, Arthur, Harpie, Silvertongue, Lyransan (originally Lyra Sans Pan, but that took too long to say), Quark, and Zoro. The last two I honestly have no explanation for, just know that they were not my idea.
I like manga and anime... they're pretty great. My favorites are Death Note (but after they changed the theme song I liked it significantly less), FMA, and Inuyasha.
Hmmm.... forgetting something... forgetting something.... oh yes, books! Alice in Wonderland is my favorite book of all time, but I will read quite literally anything. This is because I read very quickly and often and thus can't afford to be picky. However, fantasy and sci/fi are my genres of choice. I love Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, His Dark Materials (predictable, I know), most of Tamora Pierce's books (but not the ones about that Bekka girl) and Dune by Frank Herbert. I do not like vampires unless they are Dracula or Anne Rice. I also hero-worship John Green because he made realistic fiction into something I actually have an interest in reading. My favorite book of his is Paper Towns, but from what I've heard of The Fault in Our Stars, that might change come January 10th.
Where classics are concerned, I've pretty much read them all (this is going by your average English teacher's definition of classic). My favorites are Catcher in the Rye, Little Women, and A Tale of Two Cities. I just got around to reading Pride and Prejudice yesterday (which I enjoyed) so that brings my list of Books-I-Say-I've-Read-But-Actually-Haven't down to two. I'm not going to tell you what they are because chances are that I will lie to you about them at some point.
I am a Whovian, a Potterhead, a wishful member of the Fellowship, a Nerdfighter, a Starship Ranger, and I can be a Trekkie if the situation calls for some impressive klingon skills.
I despise tomatoes, iced tea, and binder clips.
Wow. I honestly did not mean to write that much. The electricity at my house was down and I just sort of wrote this though the mini-blackout. You should not feel at all obligated to read that nonsense, but if you are reading this then I'm going to assume you already have. Thanks! That was really cool of you!

OH! Also, I'm 15.

Allison (edited)
Since I just came back from being MIA for a month, I might as well re-introduce myself(:P): I'm Allison. I like reading, writing, and photography. My favorite book this year was Divergent. All time favorite series is Harry Potter.
After just finishing exams, I have to admit this thing called free time feels weird, but SO GOOD. :D

Arra
Hi I'm Arra. I'm from Manila. I love reading, dancing, singing, sports, music and movies. I also love daydreaming especially when my imagination kicks in. I can live in the world of literature. I also love the smell of books and I am really OC when it comes to my babies. I put them on airtight ziplock bags and cover them also with plastic.
My all time favorite series are Harry Potter, Princess Diaries, The Mortal Instruments and the Hunger Games (though I was not really satisfied with the third book).
My favorite authors are JK Rowling, Cassandra Clare and Meg Cabot. I know a lot will add up when I discover new books.
One of my dreams is to have a library that looks like the one shown in Beauty and the Beast.
I also blog about fashion, book reviews, etc. Although I am still in the process of updating it and transferring old posts. :)

Dukling1 (edited)
Hiya! Seeing all of your ages make me want to shrivel up and hide... oh, well, that's just me. I am turning twelve in February of next year. I adore books and reading. I love books (obviously), I love words, I love my friends, and I do not love spiders or bad grammar. Especially when I use it. Why? Because I am a writer. I love writing! It is my world! My life. My passion. The only thing I'm truly good at (other than all boys liking me, of course :p) I have been called Scary, wonderful, insane, fair princess, crazy, beautiful, amazing, funny, freakoid, nuts, well-shaped (thanks mom), lovesick, etc. I'm famous, huh? :) I am in 8th grade (please no staring or pointing, no accusing of showing off, I'm truly sick of it) I like to draw. Favorite series(s): Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, Kane Chronicles, and Artemis Fowl. Pretty much the only books I read...I don't "venture out." That's why I joined this site. Authors: Suzanne Collins, Rick Riorden, and Eoin Colfer. Singers: Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Miranda Cosgrove, and Jenette McCurdy. Song: Should've Said No by TS. I don't venture out into the music world either... Most of my friends are 14-16 so DON'T under estimate my intellect. Tyvm.
Interested in my writing? Go to: wattpad.com/lover_girl1112 and there I am. Thanks for checking it out!
Warning: people who hurt me or my friends usually end up regretting it. If you want to be rude, don't say I didn'to warn you. Other than that, I'm a happy good natured person! =D
P.S.
I'm homeschoold with Calvert (Calvert Day School in Baltimore Maryland)
My aliases are: Jasmine Moonthief and Alkezno.
My poetry site is: poetryforever.webs.com I'm Jasmine, obviously. ;)
That's about it!

Sadra
Well... I'm Sadra, Dukling's cousin. I'm twelve years old and up north enough that my extended family won't visit. The one thing that drives me crazy is when someone messes up with their commas *shudders*. That's pretty much all!

Rosabelle S
Hey! I'm Rosabelle, and you probably don't know who I am.
So let me enlighten you!
I'm generally awesome, sexy, and can save the world with a kettle and a piece of string.
Wait a second, that's The Doctor.
Never mind.
When I'm not fantasizing about owning a TARDIS, I'm reading, writing, or roleplaying. I do roller derby and I'm into drama and suchlike.
I'm pretty good at math, cats are the best animals ever, and I love to drink chocolate milk.
Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Warehouse 13 are my favorite shows.
I'd name a favorite author but I like pretty much all of them. The same goes for books.
I don't join sides. Peeta and Gale are equally cool.
The end.

Julie (edited)
Hi, I'm Julie. I got back into reading again a few years ago and started with the well known authors like J.K. Rowling. I love all things paranormal. The Harry Potter series is my favorite. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Vedikaa *Back!*
I'm gonna keep it really short. :P
Hi, I'm Vedikaa. I'm a 16 year old girl from India. Yeah, I'm young. I'm in college. I love reading, baking, watching movies, dancing, listening to music and chatting! :D I'm going almost going to complete a year being a part of this awesome group! Some of my favorite series and books are The Vampire Academy series, Delirium, Nevermore, The Mediator series and Spellbound. I wanna banish all the misconceptions people have about Indians. (a little serious, yeah) I really really wanna grow tall. I also wanna be fluent at speaking English. I wanna travel the whole world before I die. Oh and I really really wanna study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! I still have to read all the HP books though. And yeah, nice to meet all of you! :D
That wasn't as short as I had expected..

Captain Korina
Hello. I'm Kori. I like cheese and Irish accents. I'm really hoping that 2012 is going to be a super-duper-awesome-possum year. I love all sorts of music. I like books. A lot. More than television. I have three cats and a new betta fish that I've named Isildur(was watching LOTR at the time. Is that even how it's spelled?), but since I can't pronounce it half the time, I call him "Iz" for short. He's blue and shiny and handsome. I hope to see lots and lots and lots of group participation and lots and lots and lots of happy members.

Why should I introduce myself again? No one can forget me upon meeting me for the first time. I am The Unforgettable Hope. I am one of those sad people without pets. Unless you count my little brother as a pet...moving on. I dance. *dances in place* Woo. To point out the obvious I read...I read YA....and other stuff. I wish I was eleventy one. Because that would be awesome. I could throw a huge party and say strange things that no one understands and disappear and leave my nephew with my preccccciouss...I mean....my ring of power.

Again? Sheeesh.... I mean I can understand why Kori and Kat would find the need to reintroduced themselves, seeing as they are admins, but I fail to understand why you two feel compelled to bore us to tears once more... Well, if they're important enough, than so am I!!! (I just really really really felt like italicizing tonight, dunno why) =P
So to all the newbies, and those with terrible memories, I am the one and only Wanderer, and yeah. You know the rest. Or you better.....
So you get cursed with links (because I can't post them on my profile...still...)

So, I've read two books already this year!.....and they were both manga, so it doesn't count... Sigh... And I have THREE, no FOUR (if you count the family outdoor cat) cats! And while I wasn't feeling creative enough to change Cupcake's name, the males are Caspian and Sebastian (and you would not believe how easily we mix that up). I feel compelled to state that I attacked my bookcases, per my friend's suggestion, and cleared out almost three shelves of books I didn't want anymore! So now I can... BUY MORE BOOKS!!! xD
And *yawns* I am currently on my winter break, wishing everyone would stop asking about my third semester approaching end of the month (since it's speeding it up) or the fact that I still need to go out with a driving instructor to take my test. And I work at the library. And I like music and writing.
And uhhh.... I love YA, obviously... And while I don't watch tv, per-say, I am a fan of the detective type series, and I love watching Monk or Murder, She Wrote. I am also into watching old black and whites, just as so long as they're entertaining and funny (like currently my family is going through the Andy Griffith's series). And I believe most recently the only movies I am looking forward to going out to see are the new Sherlock Holmes and Woman in Black *bounces excitedly* And I am cold. And random.
And I wrote waaaay more than I meant to.......................

I'm always reading, but do not be fooled, I still have terrible grammar.
I have 2 cats who are not around nearly enough and I want a pet leopard gecko.

Lacey: My tears are in the sky, the stars are in your eyes.
Hey there :D Um... well I'm Lacey, aka Adelaide, as I find real names a tad overrated (not really, I just like Lacey better). I love to write and read, more writing than reading, but I'd never be a writer if I didn't read, so they totally go together.
All right, now just because I'm in an upside-downy mood today, I'm going to write this paragraph backwards. As in, opposites. Ready? Haha. I hate Harry Potter (gasp lol). I love Twilight. I think Stephen King is a terrible writer. Stephanie Meyer is a hero in the world of books. I can keep typing forever, this is not driving me insane at all. I am not gritting my teeth. I will not stop.
Okay. That was awkward. So, translation is: I love love love Harry Potter, so so so much[333 I hate Twilight, Stephen King is a brilliant write, and Stephanie Meyer is an insult to the world of books. I could not keep typing, it was driving me insane to say everything backwards, I was legit gritting my teeth and I had to stop.
Crazy person? Where? :0 I'll catch them! *runs into a wall* Boy, I have energy today. Well as for random facts... my birthday is 1st January, I'm a nerdfighter, I do volunteer work with kids that have Down Syndrome in some of my free time, and I absolutely love Doctor Who.
I'm also a huge NeverShoutNever fan, as for music. I like a lot of British music, to be honest. Probably because I like their accents. One of my best friends is British! I'm boring old Scottish, in a little boring old Scottish town. Heh heh. Well I also like McFly and Chameleon Circuit (because it's kind of impossible not to like a band that sings about Doctor Who AND has Charlie McDonnell as one of the members).
I like words. Words are cool. (Bow ties and fezzes are cool too, of course, but that's another matter). I like the word Doctor, because every time I hear it, no matter what, I think of THE Doctor. Then, on some horrific days, I think of shots. But that's beside the point. I also like the word "Geronimo" because it's so cool, and my British friend says it in a really sexy accent. XD
I support gay rights, and all other rights. I'm bi and I'm Christian. It's ridiculous and unfair that religion should even come into it. I can have whatever beliefs I want to about God and rights, and I'm still allowed to love who I want. Though it's actually illegal here, gay marriage :/
I do love to sing, and I will be willing to give you the links to my Youtube videos, though currently all of them are just me singing behind my picture, because my dog, Luna, broke my video camera. So you can give her a big thanks! Nah, she's cute though, so she can get away with it.
So in short, hey everyone! :D I'm sorry my post was so long, you don't have to reply to it all XD

Can't stand romance although if you look at my stats it says I read like 12% romance because the romance is always mixed in with everything. I go to the cinema/movie theaters way to often, I'm a tea freak, love chocolate, don't have any pets. Always have an ermine avvie. I'm J. Leigh. I'm older than some of you and younger than others of you. I love writing and reading YA and fantasy...and sometimes I'm a picky reader, but I'm always up for trying new books. Funny, sometimes I can be really critical of books if I start thinking about them as a writer, but that doesn't mean I didn't have fun reading them. ;-) I love learning new things and traveling (military roots), and sushi and obscure music and painting pictures with words. Oh...chickens! Chickens are awesome. ^_^

I'm so glad I'm not the only adult that not only reads, but also writes, young adult fiction. I love it and am constantly checking out new stuff and what's is the hottest books out there. It is nostalgic of my youth (not that I'm terribly old or anything). I love other book genres as well, but young adult is my favorite, especially those with paranormal romance in them. ^_^

Hello everybody and hello 2012! I heard re-introductions are in order.. XD
I'm Arianne. I'm 26 this year and I'm celebrating my 5th year on shelfari this November
A few things about me: I like reading books (hence, this fabulous group). As for genre, well, i'd like to think that I'd try anything at least once. Favorites include (but is not limited to) ASoIaF, Harry Potter, LotR. I watch a lot of tv shows; list includes a host of american, british and korean tv shows. I like stars, green tea lattes, the color red & blue and most of all, I love cats.
It's so nice to be back. =D

Eghosa (edited)
Hello, this is my first time actually joing a discussion thread on shelfari. You can call me Eghosa. I was asked to join Shelfari by my publishers, Farafina, an Imprint of Kachifo Ltd Lagos, Nigeria. And so far I have found it a wonderful self-fulfilling experience. I love reading books that are close in theme to my second book, FINE BOYS, a story of 16-20 year olds growing up in late 90s Nigeria. The first loves, the themes of navigating the route to adulthood and personal responsibility have always intriguied, especially if handled with a respect-for-the-readers'-intelligence tone.
I think I am going to have fun here. I hope there are other Nigerian's in the group. Give me a holla.
My favourite YA fiction writer is Nnedi Okorafor, she does scifi. She won the Nebula AWard last year.

Hello everyone. I too have just joined and am learning my way around. I am a wife and mother of three over active children. I started getting serious about my writing three years ago and love YA fiction. My debut novel, Charity Moon is just now available on Amazon e-Kindle and I'm finishing up the last touches to the sequel. It is a story of a angry teenager with serious trust issues. She has sworn off men completely, but well, you can guess what happens. Anyway, it's filled to the brim with action, suspense, humor, colorful characters, the occasional fairytale creature, and of course lots of romance, haha. I look forward to hanging with you guys in the future....not literally, of course.

Haven't I already done this?
Anyway, my name's Chloe.
I'm 14 years-old and am turning 15 this summer. I'm a freshman in High School but am said to be shockingly mature. Doctors thought I was 20 from only looking at a test and my appearance.
A small background on myself: I am an adopted child, with a mother, two siblings, and four cousins whom I live with. I am friends with my birth mother as well, but she lives across the country, in New York. My birth father is dead, and my adoptive father is divorced.
I have an atypical personality. I'm not afraid to hide my opinion and I get straight to the point. I also like punching things.
Don't worry, I'm actually quite nice and unthreatening most of the time.
I'm completely infatuated with books that give an opinion. I am also a fan of the Night Circus, Harry Potter, and anything that involves magic.
THE END!

So some of the 5th graders are pretty advanced, so they read middle school and some high school books also. It's kInda neat to read a book on a 4th grade level & then read one for young adults.
I have a Kindle too but I only use it for my adult books.
My favorite book? How is it possible to say? I LOVE the Harry Dresden books and the Black Jewel series. But, both of those series are adult books. My favorite young adult books? Hmmm.... I love The Ranger's Apprentice series, the Graceling books, all of Rick Riordan's (The Kane Chronicles being my favorite series of his 3). I have also enjoyed When You Reach Ne, Star Girl, & Schooled to name a few!! :)

Craig
Hi, all:
I'm new to Shelfari, and newer still to the YA readers' group. I'm probably in YA because JK Rowling casts a powerful spell. (I'd guess that many of us are still under that spell.) I finished only one "Twilight Series" novel (the first), but just buzzed through "The Hunger Games," "Catching Fire," and "Mockingjay," liking each of them more than the last. I also just finished YA author David Levithan's "The Lover's Dictionary," which I've seen blurbed (not a verb? ought to be) as his first novel for adults. I was impressed enough (see my brief review by clicking on my Raven) that I've just picked up his co-authored "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," a true YA novel. It's clear that wonderful work is being written for YAs and I'm not embarrassed to be plundering its riches.
That explains why I joined this group. About me? I'm a 60ish law professor, sometime shutterbug, acoustic guitar-picking, avid reader, in fiction and non-. My home is Lincoln, Nebraska, smack dab in the heart of the heartland, where I'm on the University of Nebraska law faculty. Married, two kids (As, both; no longer YAs).
I look forward to interesting YA posts by other members.

Greetings, underlings. You may refer to me by my username *waves hand dramatically in general direction* or Jen, a privilege I only grant to a few fortunate souls. If I were to list my favorite authors or books/series, I might be here longer than need be and I might start re~rating books so let's just say if you want to know what I do or do not like, just act all stalkerish and take a look at my shelf. I will say that I do enjoy the general fantasy genre, as well as paranormal and steampunk. Also enjoy a bit of manga and anime, but I've got a separate shelf for that. Book blogger who's currently on hiatus because life is too busy and I'm too lazy and my reading pace has hit a traffic jam. Since it's summer and I do not wish to bring up the subject of doom, I will say that I have two years of the higher education experience under my belt and am not looking forward to another one. I work as a library page, which probably accounts for my tremendously large TBR pile and my gazillion holds at any given time. I like alot of older tv series (or movies) but also some of the newer, detective ones or fantasy films. Music, I like soundtracks or anything epic enough to write to, but I guess I'll listen to mostly anything, contemporary, country, electronic/dance, pop/kpop, with the exception of hip-hop/rap. I am also known to ramble if the subject is random enough. I'm actually a rather quiet person in real life. *gasps* Nooooooo! Seriously? Oh and I love cats! And..... I guess I hope to see that this group remains active for awhile yet and we have more book discussions. Cheers!

I don't appreciate going about my business, confident that the spider is gone, and then having it pop up outta nowhere. I'm an introvert offline. Though I suppose it depends on who I'm around, really...anyways! I hope to see this group continue to flourish and prosper...and stuff.

tvnc
Hey hey hello there and I am TVNC! This is probably about the fifth time I've introduced myself in this group but it's alright, you can get to know me again! (and again, and again.)
Let's see. I love books and trees and rain, I've never seen cheese cans in my life, I love minesweeper to bits as well as freecell, I hail from Singapore, I don't believe in keeping a TBR list, most of the songs I like are from movie soundtracks, I also love cows and potatoes and hard cheese, as a general rule I don't eat chocolate, and I aspire to join the circus. And also, while I used to read 1-2 fiction books a week, a few months ago I lost all motivation to read fiction books. So, uh, yeah, now I read mostly non-fiction books, which is very bizarre for a 16 year old girl and also makes me somewhat out of place here...well at any rate, hello! And, uh, I love tea ice cream.

I suppose I should introduce myself. How dull. I'm Hope. I am often bored and very excitable (about some things, other things I am completely not excitable about...actually most things I'm very non excitable about, so I suppose my original phrase was a lie...) I lie a lot, about stupid things and then make sure everyone knows I was lying because I often type faster than I think and am too lazy to go back, I am also super lazy. Because of said laziness I very rarely welcome people, and so don't feel bad if you don't 'welcome' me cause I get it. Welcoming can be a lot of work to a lazy person. I am surprise Kori does it at all considering her laziness. No insult intended, Captain. Let's see, I love epic fantasy like Lord of the Rings and Finnikin of the Rock series and The Thief series and so far Game of Thrones, I also love books by Maggie Stiefvater and Scott Westerfeld. I don't have a favorite genre in particular, I like to dabble in almost everything (excluding erotica and non-fiction and hardcore sci fi....and yep that's about it). My music taste is similar to my book taste. I like to dabble in everything, except for rap and screamo and that sort of thing, though I prefer classical and...random stuff (if that can be a genre?). I am obsessed with dance. I have an annoying brother and the best sister on the planet (don't even try to argue that) and ummmmmm.....I am paranoid that my family will try to steal my ice cream.

My favorite author is John Green. In this group I hope to see people posting stuff. But that's pretty much guaranteed. I don't know what else. I never know what to say about myself. I'm not extraordinarily interesting. I'm just me. I should stop boring you now. Goodbye.

Rachel Barnard: “How many turns does it take to turn back time?” (edited)
I like to use the pen name Ray Bear but only with my poetry. My favorite word has been sesquipedalian for some time now. I am writing my own novel: The Cube. I have lots of ideas: some have already been invented, some have already been written, and some are impossible. One day I will find that one idea that is a game-changer. Until then, I will just continue challenging my environment. I enjoy watching shows like How I made my millions, International House Hunters, and How It's Made. I studied Psychology in college and although it didn't feed me into a job, I use what I learned every day. I'm thinking of writing a book about the meta-game we used to play: Zombies. I want to travel and experience new food, places, events, etc. I would like to become super rich in order to do that, but otherwise I will continue to drool over the million dollar mansions in other countries I see on tv.

Elfstone/Thorongil (edited)
Hello! I've been a member of this group for quite a while, but I don't think I've formally introduced myself (or even posted anything) so I'm Elfstone/Thorongil on Shelfari but elsewhere I go by a whole range of random names including The Conglomerate Frog, DflatMajor, and almost all of Aragorn's various names.
I love books, classical music and photography, and I'd like to think I know almost every book in the fiction section of my school's library, but I don't. And I'm a fan of Lord of the Rings (obviously) and the Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner. And I'm a reader but not a writer, so I shall end this thing here...haha :P (and I use a lot of inappropriate faces.)

Dennis Maley
Hi - Dennis Maley, first-time author, live in America's midsection, hopelessly devoted to a killer reading teacher.
I got out of the habit of reading for fun and I'm trying to retrain myself. I liked all the boy stuff growing up - Mark Twain, Jack London, MAD Magazine, etc. The fantasy, zombie and vampire stuff leaves me cold.
Self published a teen/YA historic fiction about a runaway slave boy. "There is" and "there were" are my two biggest pet peefs.

Mara Lyka [3
Hello everyone! I'm Mara. I read anything that catches my attention but most of the time I love reading YA books. My favorite books would include the Hunger Games series, the Twilight series and the magical Harry Potter series. I have a lot of authors that I really admire and Mitch Albom, Paulo Coelho and Khaled Hosseini are definitely included in the list. I recently can't get over the book "The Selection" by Kiera Cass basically because I'm having a dilemma as to who I prefer more: Aspen or Maxon?!? They're both so desirable! Anyway, I joined shelfari to gain friends to whom I can discuss books with. Don't get me wrong, I have amazing friends but their not just into reading. As you can see, I am not doing that well in the "socialize with other members" department. I hope that by joining this group I'll be able to do something about it. I'm looking forward to have more fun here in shelfari! :))

I also am a big John Green fan, I watch his channel wih Hank, and I loved the fault in our stars. Fave book? Probably Harry Potter or the Fault in our stars. :) Actually have a thing for biographies, I just like reading about life. Looking forward to hopefully meeting more nerdfighters/ readers! :D

Yo yo yiggity yo! I'm Brittany or Brit. Guess it depends what kind of mood I'm in. Thought I should finally come introduce myself, since I'm trying to get more active in this group. And what a fun group might I add. :)
I'm in my mid-to-late twenties and spend my days as a Travel Agent. So obviously I love to travel and try to get away 3-4 times a year. I also use to work in Disney World so am also a massive Disney fanatic. And I don't even think that describes my obsession enough! I also use to play very competitive soccer but at age 20 had a pretty serious injury so that stopped my playing career. But Since then I've been coaching competitive girls teams and of course watch a lot on TV. GO MAN UTD!!!! I love my doggies. I have 3 at the moment. Oreo is almost 13 and a boarder collie Samoyed, Morgan is a HUGE 5 year old Yellow lab and Cranberry is a 4 year old collie Sheppard mix. Favourite books. Let's see. Harry Potter because c'mon. :) Hunger Games, Scorpio Races, The Lost Girls, and Dash and Lily's Book of Dares. Authors: Rowling, Sarah Dessen, Stiefvater, Marian Keyes, and Collins. Ummm...music; I'm mostly a pop, rock kind of girl. Bon Jovi are my [3 and I will never give up my Backstreet Boys!
I'm here to meet other YA obsessed peeps, like everyone else. Also like everyone else my friends just don't understand my obsession with books which means I don't have anyone to talk about them with. Well there is my 15 year old cousin who is a boy. So as much as he reads too, we just don't always read the same things....So that's why I'm here; to meet you wonderful people! :) Sure, one last thing, my book goal this year was 85 and am two books away! So YAY me! I try to read 2-3 books a week. You know because I like to have an interesting life and want to keep Amazon and Chapters in business. :)

That's a chicken on my shoulder, wondering if I'll let her sit on the book I'm reading. I write soft scifi--no dystopias and no uptopias--and I'm wondering if the sequel to my book A Place Beyond Man would interest YA readers. The protagonist is 3 to 20 or so in the series, and the aliens have a great sense of humor but no fangs, and the family relationships are a real stretch, especially if you have never had a dog. I also blog about all the wierd social interactions of my birds and dogs at caryneeper.com. Come read our excerpts and tell me what you think. Mine are on my Goodreads blog and Penscript-Publishing.com will be premiering the first three chapters this month at Launch events can be found at http://archivesofvarok.com/articles/w...

More about me at my web site www.carolinebock.com. Do you ever do giveaways for the group? Would be happy to give away a few signed copies of LIE. But don't want this to be overly promotional, this is just who I am -- Caroline

Heyo. I'm Nick. I read through osmosis, it seems. I'm read every day, at least a little. My favorite book (it's really hard to narrow it down, but currently) is Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan. I don't discriminate by genre, I'll read almost anything that interests me. My current reading project is the Holmes canon, and then The Great Gatsby, but I'm always looking for new books to add to my queue. My favorite authors are Arthur Conan Doyle, David Levithan, and John Green. So hey, hope to meeting some of you and getting book recommendations.

John Kerry
Hey guys
I'm John Kerry (not the Secretary of State John Kerry - a far less famous and influencial John Kerry)
You can call me John, because I doubt I'm cool enough to be a Lord like Lord Mark above. A captain like Captain Korina, and I'm certainly not a Most Honorable One like Racheal up there.
And at this point I should probably mention that I love YA fiction novels. And I've written one too, which I'm not going to shamelessly promote, but you can check it out on my bookshelf if you're interested.
Favourite book series and Author's - I'd have to say the Harry Potters - JK Rowling (which seems like the easy cop-out choice, but they are amazing), His Dark Materials - Phil Pullman (Also great), Hunger Games, Artemis Fowl, anything by Anthony Horowitz, The Dead, the fear etc by Charlie Higson, some Darren Shan.
Recently I've read The Book Thief - which is amazing and I loved!
I'm currently reading Ship breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi and enjoying it. (He wrote the Windup girl which I enjoyed too, but that's not YA)
I'm also into anything Comic book, Superhero, Star Warsy type stuff. Anything with multiple interlinked backstories, rich and vibrant alternate worlds, character's and histories. Seriously, I soak that stuff up. That's what I write and that's what I want to read.
I'm always looking for engrossing new worlds to dive into. So I suppose that's what I'm looking for in this group. Recommendations.
So any recommendations that any of you may have would be gratefully received.

I'm happily married to a fellow reader/writer (and his English major comes in handy when we're writing :) and we hope to have a Best Seller book out one day :) We're also dog trainers, photographers, artists, and musicians, and I love spending free time writing poems and lyrics (when I'm not reading ;) and playing with our many furry pets.
I enjoy most YA genres, and some of my favorite YA books/series are: the Uglies series, the Matched Trilogy, the Nightshade Trilogy, and the Firelight series. I don't have a particular "favorite" author, there are just too many great authors to choose a "fav" from :)
Hoping to befriend some fellow readers/writers, and get more book recommendations :)

Giuseppe Loda

brit; we were the perfect disease'.
Hello, I'm Brit, and you may call me... uhm, Brit. Or Bri, or Britney, everyone seems to call me on of those, even though neither are my name. I don't mind though. My favourite author is John Green, and my favourite series... I don't think I have one. I'm not sure. I've been in this group for about a year or so, but I left Shelfari for a while because it got seemingly boring, I guess. The only reason I'm really coming back to this group is I've not really read many books lately, and those that I do read are basically all the same ideas... teen, romance, depression. And that's kind of all I've started caring about, and I guess I kind of want to find more books to read? Anyways, I'm not really much of a reading person, more of a writing person, but because of my lack of reading my writing has started to get worse and worse. And though I don't want to be an author, I do want to be a writer, since I want to be a singer and I want to write songs. So I suppose it all ties in. Basically what I'm saying is that what I'd like to see in this group are good book recommendations, perhaps? I kind of like more modern books, I read all the new books. I know a lot of people don't appreciate that, but it's just the way I am, I don't especially like older books. I'm not going to lie. Oh, and one of my favourite books is The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Which is also my favourite film adaption (:

Daniela
Ello, the name is Daniela but I go by Dani, even adults rather use my nickname. I am Czech and German and I was born and raised in Europe...then I moved to America. Whoop. It's nothing like my home but I've sort of learned to adapt. After six years, I guess I'm still not used to everything. I love reading because there's always a happy ending and that's what I want in life :)
Dystopian. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I think it's the best genre that you can ever find in YA fiction and yes, I absolutely love it. My favourite dystopian would have to be the Eve trilogy (of course Divergent and Matched are right behind that).
My favourite author of all time has come to be Maureen Johnson. I love the way she writes, the way she describes all the places in Europe in her books (mostly because it reminds of home, bahaha). I have read all of her books except two because Amazon cancelled that order (bastards) and to this day I have been too lazy to order them again.
I'm stuck between two in the book series question and that's Harry Potter and the TMI series (The Mortal Instruments).
But out of everything and beyond...my favourite would have to be Wintergirls because it changed my life and helped get rid of my depression when I realised I cared about too many people and I really did want to be happy. If you haven't read the book, highly recommed it, and it's by Laurie Halse Anderson.
I love music, especially alternative. I am a triathlete (that's my stress relief) and I would like to become a linguist or veterinarian when I grow up. That's that, have a wonderful day :)

Taylor- Self Control was never my forte.
Ehhh I'm terrible at introducing myself. Anyways, I'm Taylor. Most people on Shelfari call me Tay-- I prefer Taylor but I don't care too much. I'll have been on Shelfari for 4 years in June. I like reading YA. I'm sort of picky when it comes to books. I'll read almost anything, but I have a hard time truly loving books. The 3 I can say I love are Perks of Being a Wallflower (I could really relate to it), Looking for Alaska, and The Fault in Our Stars. I really like John Green, I love Harry Potter also. Yeah this is a terrible introduction.

I'm a Tumblr and Instagram person... I think that'd be enough to explain my insanity and fangirl-trosity. But if I must, I suppose I should tell you more (:The name's Sofia, but just call me Sof (;Not many people from my ghetto little school read YA Fiction... To be honest, I don't think they read at all. Which is why I'm here (: All I expect from this group are book recommendations and new readers to talk to. Just so I can fangirl over fictional OTP's with other human beings, aha. Tumblr is my world of fangirling over Doctor Who and Sherlock, Instagram is my world of having intense feels because of 5 cheeky homo's I like to call One Direction, but Shelfari is where I fangirl over books.
Here are a few of my favourite reads (;
The Harry Potter Series
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series
Heroes of Olympus Series
The Maze Runner Trilogy
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Gone
The Inheritance Cycle
Legend
^Those are just a few (: As you can see I pretty much read a lot of YA Fiction. Favourite genre is definitely Sci-Fi. I absolutely LOVE Dystopians or Post-Apocalyptic/Apocalyptic books. I like Fantasy/Urban Fantasy too (: I like romance too sometimes.
Anything else I think you should be aware of is that I'm in a LOT of fandoms..... You're dealing with a Directioner, Whovian, Sherlockian, Hunter, Potterhead, Demigod, Dragon Rider, Hobbit, and much more. I'll try to contain my feels while I'm in this group.
Whaale, that's all (: ... Wow I feel like such a noob here.

Hi, I have to say that with over 300 posts, I haven't read this thread, but joined this group sometime in the past week and wish I'd found it sooner. I became hooked on y/a novels again when my daughters hit that age. I'd had no idea how popular many of them were with adults for some time. I have fairly eclectic tastes that have varied over time somewhat, but include y/a in my reading every month.

@Kori - Yes. It is horrible, I used to love chocolate milk. I drank it all the time....but then one time when I was younger I got a glass and took it upstairs with me to play the computer. And I forgot it there. And it got gross and stank and when we found it again it made my stomach hurt because it smelled bad. Now, that wouldn't have been enough, but one time at school...a girl was drinking chocolate milk and start laughing and it came out of her nose....but just so you all know. Even that was not enough to completely diminish my love for chocolate milk. I just don't drink a lot of it or it will make me feel queasy.

Yuck, old milk is yicky...squirting it out your nose would be gross too, but funny!!
I did that once, with grape pop...I was on the deck of a huge tree house at my friends' house, and they started tickling me, making it come out my nose, and it went all over her dad lol he was standing below, about to tell us to come in for cookies!!! I felt soooo bad, but we laughed for like an hour! Then her dad chased us around the yard with a hose and soaked us all...great fun :) I can't drink grape pop without laughing now :P

Hi. Kat here. I'm old and love reading YA. Basically because it usually ends happily and I need happy. I'll occasionally read Adult Fic, but it has to be reeeeally good. I love shelfari and books and my family and my cats and pizza and mexican food and freshly baked cookies and cake and healthy raw foods and dance and music and nature and farmer's markets and traveling and the beach and spiritual retreats and I don't know what else. See ya!

Speaking of cookies, I had this delightful little creation recently, called "The Wookie" It's two chocolate chip cookies with edible cookie dough sandwiched in between, THEN they dip one end in Fantasy Fudge and the other in white chocolate. Amazing. It took me about four days to eat it. There ways NO WAY I could have eaten it all in one sitting!

'Ello, I'm Jen! I don't really care what you refer to me as, I've been called many things... Like, if you want to know what I like to read, check out my shelf because I am too lazy to make a proper introduction, and yeah... I basically read YA but I occasionally branch out. I love fantasy and paranormal. I haven't had much time for reading recently with my studies but maybe sometime this summer before I get super busy again in the fall with transferring and all that. *twitches* I'm 99.9% sure I'm going with a Graphic Design Major and Writing Minor. I love my kitties and I like this chilly, rainy weather we're having. I guess I could ramble about other stuff I like, like music... I seem to switch off between genre obsessions, but for the most part I enjoy most alternative, Florence + the Machine, Imagine Dragons, Mumford & Sons, etc, epic stuff, Two Steps From Hell, Audiomachine, London Philharmonic Orchestra, etc, jazz a bit, electric dance stuff, but my fallback is always Kpop. I'm also very much into manga/anime. And I have a list of tv series I like on my page. And I enjoy writing, drawing, and photography. And I have a sweet tooth, but I generally like salty stuff when it comes to snacks, and yeah...
I am on Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/i_love_secon...
...and Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/hallowwanderer/
...and this is my Manga shelf: http://www.shelfari.com/darkestdream
...and other places, but whatever...

Yay, I've been in the group long enough to re-introduce myself! :D
Wazzup, I'm Rose- you can call me that or Bubbles, which is a nickname I picked up somewhere along the way (long story...).
I'm an avid reader, and love spending a lot of my time reading books for reviews, and editing books for authors. I'm hoping to have some of my books published in the future, although they're no where close to finished yet :P I love writing as much as reading- anything from novels to short stories, poems, and lyrics.
I'm also a passionate musician, and play more instruments than I care to count. I love music, movies, dancing, exercising, reading, working on cars, cooking/baking, and playing with any type of furry critter.
I'll read just about anything, although I try and stay away from anything erotic- makes me uncomfortable :P I mainly read YA paranormal books, although I love apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic, dystopian/utopian books as well. I enjoy fantasy, classics, mystery and thrillers, although I don't read as many of those as I used to.
...don't know what else to say...I'll make friends with just about anyone, and I'll talk about pretty much anything, so feel free to chat away! :D

Hi Brit Brit!!! :D
Ok Brit & Wan, I'll tell the Bubble story :P It's a funny story (I think...). OK: condensed versions: I lovelovelove super bubble bubble gum, and always have like 6-7 packs in my purse. One day in High School, my friends and I were goofing around (sub-day in Theatre class) and we decided to have a contest to see who could blow the biggest bubble...well, lets just say, that with 7 pieces of super-bubble bubble gum, I blew and held the biggest bubble... that, mixed with the fact I'm one of those chronically happy people who randomly skips places and sings to herself and such, people always call me bubbly lol so, I got the nickname Bubbles, and it's stuck ever since :P
I got the longer name Butterscotch Bubbles because, well, I went through a phase Senior year where I really liked scotch, and I love butterscotch candies, so my friends added that to "Bubbles" lol

hello, my name is wanda oliver. i'm 45yrs old, married for 26yrs and have two sons that are 24yrs and 20yrs old and i'm also raising my 15yr old niece. well, I guess I should just say she is my daughter, she has been with my family for almost 4yrs. I love to read anything that gets my attention early and I love movies, old and new. I used to hate to read in school, now I read anything I can get my hands on because i'm afraid i'll forget how, since I seem to forget everything else. lol my favorite series of books are Morganville vampires, of course , twilight sagas, black dagger brotherhood, shadow falls series, hex hall series, house of night series, blue bloods, and more. right now, i'm reading "her dear loving husband" series. I just stumbled on this series, it's a trilogy , i'm already reading the second one , the third isn't ready yet. but it is very good, I can't think of the author's name right this minute though. you are all welcome to look at my shelves and ask me about any of the books. ......wanda

I think I read some where she is just doing 15 books total. (Rachel Caine), may 7, 2013 is the release of #14 "fall of night" and November 5, 2013 is the release of the last one "daylighters" I am so excited about these books I've already pre ordered them. lol the "her loving husband" series by Meredith Allard, are really good, I am so glad I stumbled on to this trilogy. not only does it have your vamps, witches, werewolves in also throws some history into the stories as well, and I find that is great because along with fiction there is a little non fiction in it as well.
thank you all for welcoming to this group. I hope we can share a lot of stories, and book info and have a fun time while we are at it.
thank you again,

Hi everybody. I just found this group and hope y'all don't mind having a fellow round here. I'm from the deep south of the USA, in my late 30s, married with three great kids and two dogs, and absolutely love books. I read all genres but especially love fantasy and sci-fi and have discovered in the last year or so that some of the best and freshest fantasy out there is in the YA books. I've read all of the Harry Potter books (who hasn't?), all the Percy Jackson, and all the Chronicles of Kane. I recently discovered Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instrument series, Jonathan Maberry's Benny Imura series, and have just started on Sherrilyn Kenyon's Chronicles of Nick. My local library stocks more new YA books than anything else so I'm looking for suggestions and recommendations.

Hi Daniel, welcome to the group!! Awesome that you found us here- we always love more book lovers!! :D This is certainly a great place for suggestions and recommendations. A really great fantasy YA book I read recently was Eden at the Edge of Midnight, by John Kerry (http://www.shelfari.com/books/3174073...), so that may be one you'd like ;) I haven't heard of the Chronicles of Kane before, I'll have to look those up!

Welcome Daniel! We actually have a lot of guys here, but for the most part it's the females that talk a lot :P You'll definitely get good recommendations on YA books. Let's see...Fantasy and Sci-Fi? Have you read the Unwind series for sci fi..although that might be more dystopian? Fantasy...I LOVED Seraphina by Rachel Hartman and Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta, The Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner, and I'd say the Incarceron series by Catherine Fisher is a mixture of both. And just all around AMAAAAAZING books are The Scorpio Races and The Raven Boys both by Maggie Stiefvater. I don't know what genre they'd be considered in, but read them because they are phenomenal. That's what I recommend right now.

Welcome to the group, Daniel!! We don't mind at all. Like Kat said, we have a few guys in here but they don't talk enough, which is silly. It's so true about YA being fresh. I lean towards YA A LOT. How are you liking Mortal Instruments? You will find tons of book recs here! More than you'll know what to do with :)

Thanks everybody. I'm glad to be here.
@ Desert Rose: Thank you for the greetings and the suggestion. It looks good and I'm adding it to my ever-growing "want to read" list. Apparently I got the title backwards on the Kane Chronicles. It's a series by Rick Riordan that centers around Egyptian Mythology.
@ Kat: Thanks for the welcome and the recommendations. I'm not familiar with either the Unwind series or any of the fantasy series you've listed here. I can't wait to get into them.
@ Captain Korina: Thank you. I absolutely LOVED the Mortal Instruments. I found the mythos that Cassandra Clare had developed to be engrossing and rich. Her approach to magic and mythology was inspiring and enjoyable. I also liked how she developed the characters. They felt, for lack of better term, natural. Not forced. I'm looking forward to the Infernal Devices and City of Heavenly Fire when it comes out.

@Daniel: You will LOVE Infernal Devices. I actually like that series more than Mortal Instruments. Anyways, you'll have to let us know what you think when you start Clockwork Angel. What do you think about the movie stuff? Have you seen the trailer for City of Bones yet?
posted 2 months ago. ( reply | permalink | delete )

Daniel G.
I saw the trailer but I'm afraid I don't think it's going to be good. It'll probably be fine for people who've never read the book, but all of us who have will probably be left with a bad taste in our mouths.
Sometimes I think Hollywood should be required to put a "loosly inspired by" tag in front of a movie. The first Percy Jackson movie, Eragon, and the Hobbit movies would all be good examples. "Based on the book" tags would be reserved for movies closer to the actual works, like the first few Harry Potter movies or The Hunger Games. I'm not a purists or anything, not a member of the "book version" or "movie version" camps. It's just that Cassandra Clare wrote some truly excellent descriptions, character development, and action sequences that were a true joy to read. I can see in the previews that the movie deviates heavily from this and there's no good reason to other than to Hollywoodify it to squeeze every single penny out of it and that irritates me.

Yes! Yes! Yes! They should ALWAYS put "loosely based on________" ALWAYS! It's so true. The authors do such an amazing job creating scenes and characters that deserve to be in the movies.

Thanks Brittany. That's just got to be true. If I'm ever a published writer I'd be willing to accept a lower profit percentage in exchange for getting to keep creative control over how my creations are portrayed.
I don't want to wind up like Clive Cussler and trying to sue the studio, the director, and just about anybody else involved in a movie version of my works like he did over Sahara. Not a YA book I know, but a great book turned into a really bad movie that the author hates with a passion!
I understand that sometimes something may not be cost effective to do, like when Fred and George turned a hallway at Hogwarts into a swamp. Fine. Don't do it. But omitting a scene from a book is a lot different in my view than completely and totally altering it. Look at Percy Jackson and The Lightening Thief. In the book when Poseidon claims him it's a powerful and emotionally complex event that has far-reaching repercussions for not only Percy but the rest of Camp Youngblood as well. In the movie it's just, "Yeah the sea god is your dad. Here's your bungalow." That's just not right.
Oh dear, I seem to be on my soapbox again.

Yo wassup?! This is what, like the nth time I'm gonna introduce my self. I'm Mark, in my early 20s and I'm from the Philippines. It's a country somewhere in South East Asia and it's currently summer in here. If you'd like to experience a very sunny and hot weather, you should totally go to Singapore! It's so hot in there! But if you'd like a sunny and very hot weather with beautiful beaches, you should totally come in here! We have lots of them! Don't worry, it's safe in most part of our country. The terrorists are in the southern-most part of the country and they don't really bother us that much.
Obviously, I love reading but it's been a long time since I've read something. To all my friends here, how are you guys? It's been a while. And to all the people I haven't had the pleasure of talking to yet, hello!

Hello Alissa! Welcome to the group! This is the group I'm talking about, I'm used to be an admin here but things happened. Anyways, it's better not to talk about that, things are still pretty sensitive around here after the mutiny.

Salve! I'm introducing myself some days after already being active. ;D Anyway...my favorite book series right now is The Hunger Games. My favorite author is Jennifer Brown, and my favorite book (by her) has got to be a tie between Hate List and Bitter End. Hm...OH! I also LOVED Nothing by Robert Friedman! AMAZING BOOK. AND WINTERGIRLS. AND I JUST LOVE SO MANY BOOKS WHY DO YOU MAKE ME CHOOSE?
I guess aside from reading I play in marching/concert band, write stories, sleep, eat, watch Rugrats, and hang out with my besties. :) I also love Latin! If you're good at English, you will most likely succeed in Latin-just pay attention.
You can call me Rain or I don't know...whatever. I don't really care.

Hello Rain! Welcome to the group!
Random fact: Rain is "Ulan" in Filipino! So sometimes, I'm gonna call you Ulan! Just like Mulan without the letter m.

Thanks KorKor! Sure, I'll give you a Filipino name. Upon searching, Korina means "maiden" and "maiden" in Filipino is "dalaga." However, that sounds like a weird name so I'll give you the name "Mayumi." It literally means "gentle."

Too many replies! Why am I so popular on the internet? *hides*
@Kat: I play alto sax, haha. And, for the stuff you don't know...IT'S ALL AWESOME.
@Mark: I like that; Ulan! Haha I will now say it is ulaning instead of raining. xD
@Abby: I was like, "Uh. I said I am learning Latin. I DON'T KNOW FILLIPINO!" then I realized you were talking to Mark. And I was like whoops.
Sooooo yeah. My friend's dad is kinda being a jerk. Random face of the day.

Hi! My name is Danielle and I'm into anime, manga, comics and videogames. My favorite book series right now would have to be the Halo series. However, I'm currently reading Game of Thrones so that might become my new favorite series. My two favorites genres are science fiction and fantasy.

Helllo,
My name is Anne Forest. I love reading. My favorite genre is fantasy. I would like to learn Kung Fu (sooo much they come into my dreams). I play computer games just for fun (never complete any missions). I still act like a kid but I don't care. Also, I like making new friends.

Hi Anne! Welcome, welcome. I act like a kid myself, but I think as long as we're mature when we need to be, it doesn't hurt anything. Pop in to any threads that look interesting!

Hi Anne! Welcome to the group! Fantasy is one of my fav genres as well :) Wow, Kung Fu would be so much fun to learn! I was learning Karate in high school, but I think Kung Fu would be much more intense and a ton of fun. This is a pretty great group, I'm sure you'll be able to make some new friends here :)
